I would ask you, great blue emu, to immediately stop any fleet expansion program.

For the next five to ten years, I am planning to focus much more on building up our resource base and our colonies than on Fleet builds. However, there are a number of weaknesses in our current fleet which I want to see remedied, such as our inability to detect or engage FTRs and FACs, and our lack of mid-range (beam) PD.

Re: turning on Swarm and Invaders... I have no immediate pland to do so, no.

EDIT:

It is now February 2039. By June, we should have a theoretical breakthrough in Grav Sensor sensitivity 21 (and can start researching specific sensor hardware based on that tech), and in the general theory of FAC engines (and can then research specific engines). By the end of the year, we should be ready to design specific implimentations of these techs.

Gauss Cannon theory is only up to level 2, and I hope to get it up at least one more level before designing hardware implimentations. We are handicapped in this field by our complete lack of a Missile/Gauss researcher. We have none.

EDIT:

Once the Grav 21 is complete (in June) and specific hardware implimentations designed and researched (a couple of months later), I hope to upgrade our active sensors and fire controls to match the range of the new series of missiles that we can now design, and to close the FTR/FAC gap in our radar coverage.

Those new missiles are ready for design... warheads are still x5, Agility still 48, engine power now 4 per MSP instead of 3.

Also, the slow speed of the Mine-Layers has consistently handicapped them whenever we have attempted to use them in a fleet operation. Upgrading their engines to Magneto-Plasma standard would mean a great increase in their usefulness.

With the completion (by the Chix) of the new jump-gate highway leading to Mu Herculis, our Commercial sector has begun trading with the Chix.

Is it worth it to make some more designs that the companies can use, or should they be fine with the current ones?

I designed some Ion-tech Mule-IIs, but they are still building Mules.

Pratt now has 22 ships (four Tramps, three Titanics, fifteen Mules), and Savage has two (both Mules).

EDIT: Ships currently under construction:

Two Rock-III class Decoy Vessels
One Cornucopia class Ammunition Tender
Three Scout-II class Multi-Role Survey Vessels
Four Mule class Freighters are under refit to Mule-II class

You can flag the mules as obsolete so the civs won't build them

I'll do that once my Mule => Mule-II refits are complete.

Arguably, it's not a problem if the civvies keep building Mules instead of Mule-IIs. They're cheaper (675 vs 882), so they can afford a larger fleet of them.

So the civil companies can in theory expand, colonize and terraform worlds without player interference? I just imagine that the game would turn into a nightmare if you need to manage 100+ worlds

What are the opinions on dropping one tube from our Minelayers (from 3 x size-36 down to 2 x size-36) and using that displacement for extra engines to bring them up to fleet speed and better FCs to allow them to bombard from long range instead of medium range?

I haven't seen them colonize anything... they've been shipping additional colonists to the worlds that I colonized, though.

The Charlies have informed us that one of their survey ships has found major mineral concentrations on the second planet of Gliese 229. This system is on the opposite side of our empire from the Charlies home world... five jumps from Groombridge 34 but only two jumps from our Dravar XV colony.

EDIT:

The captured system of Wolf 294 has now been linked into our network of jump gates.

Scientist Elise Mueller's research bonus has increased to +50%. Since the bonus is quadrupled within the specialty field, this means that she researches Sensor and Fire Control techs at triple speed (+200%).

Sorry to ask, but couldnt find it in the last 20 pages, when did we take the planet in wolf 294? :O

I was unaware we had...

We destroyed the PDCs orbiting the planet. Our scanners revealed intact cities on the planet. I expect our marines to begin securing the place and a xeno team to land shortly.

Early this year. We've been consolidating the system since then... we have brought in three Brigade HQs, one commanding four Garrison Battalions, the other two commanding a total of eight Heavy Armor and Assault Infantry formations. We have set up a colony of 200,000 people on the captured Prix world under Governor Nixon, and are bringing in life-support Infrastructure to support a larger population. Our Xenology team under Julius Strange is examining the Ruins.

Yes, I have played a lot of EVE online. The wrecks and salvage in Aurora were a EVE-related addition. I don't know reddit.

May I ask what inspiration you got from Honor Harrington? I'm a huge HH fan, but so far nothing has brought it to mind, other than both being awesome and set in space :)

I think people were expecting ground combat. I take it the Prix didn't have any troops?

Ah nice, saw the post about the ruins, should hopefully turn out to be some goodies ;D

In many ways the combat system is HH-based. Missiles with ranges in the tens of millions of km, launching in salvos 20-40 seconds apart. Short ranged, fast firing beam weapons with ranges of 500,000 km or less. Point defence comprising anti-missiles and point blank beam weapons, etc.
