Tsardom of Russia 1598-1625
The Times of Troubles
First of, let me tell you something that hapened last session prior to the 1598-1625 session. When Austria declared war on the Ottoman Empire, i was going to support them by attacking the Turks as well, but i wasnt able because Husky threatned to quit if i did.
Secondly, most of you, my dear readers, are unaware, but i was ghosted for the last 2 years of gameplay, minting all the time. These 2 years would be enough to reach LT 18, a crucial technology that provides us with a new CRT.
Now, during the session of 1598-1625, i got attacked right at the start before i even had a chance to reach the LT 18 CRT that i would have been able to reach if i wasnt ghosted while minting.
This attack was composed of France, Poland and Our dear Friend the Ottoman Empire. Yes, the Ottoman Empire. The one who threatned to quit if i attacked him on a 2v1. I guess 2v1 against the poor OE is unfair, but when it comes to Russia it is the most fair of wars even if it is a 3v1. More of the matter i will not say, but i guess everyone can reach a real nice conclusion regarding this event.
Now - Poland. They had been ghosted for an entire session. After their long sleep, they woke up with 10000d in their pocket, and with leaders with 5 and 6 shock each. The best Russia had was a 243 (with offensive/quality) if memory serves.
As for France, their army wasnt really that big, but in China, where recruitment is very hard to conduct, their army was huge. France participated with 70k or little more than that during the entire war. My forces in China were only about 30k at that time and without any manpower or european province in China (in order to hire mercenaries or recruit troops), i wasnt able to reinforce my army. Therefore French participation proved fatal to Russia - they were able to conquer 2 COTs for cheap warscore.
As for the entire war - well, i have to say that it was quite a joke. The war lasted... 2 years? In 2 years i lost my entire manpower pool and i had less than 150.000 men standing once peace was signed.
Lets go into details. War starts, France lays siege to 2 my COTs, and is rebuffed from one of them with hardly any casualty to me. The OE goes crazy sieging everything they get their hands with, with their full army. Their FULL army. I believe during a single stage of the war i saw about 300.000 turks INSIDE my borders. What the...? Due to the lack of leaders all the battles were quite nasty for both sides - i was pratically fighting with default leaders at that time. Still, i hardly lost a battle against the OE. Possibly 2 or 3 at the worst. In the far north, near Moscow, Poland ran around with full infantry stacks (with an army around 150k-200k total) assaulting my forts, sucessfully doing such against minimal ones, but failing absolutely when it came to medium ones mostly due to well timed sorties from my part. The Poles also kept retreating when winter came, which enabled me to retake all those sweet minimals back with exception of Vyazma and Velikia which i never had the balls and the means to reconquer due to their position. To be frank, i only recall losing a battle against Poland. During this time, my army in China had been totaly overwhelmed and reduced to 10k since it was impossible to deal with the huge french numbers. Therefore, 2 COTs came under French control. During that same time, the Turkish front was basically impossible to hold: The Turks themselves had a bit more manpower than i did, and the simple fact that they continuously attacked me with everything they had, even without any real victory from their part, depleted my manpower pool in no time.
When the first stab hit came, i took a deep breath and looked my surroundings and my position: 2 COTs in Asia lost, another 2 vulnerable for further french attacks, 5 or so provinces taken by the Turks, 2 by the Poles, 0 manpower left in my manpower pool, 150k men left, and both the Turkish-Polish army still at their peak. The conclusion was easy to reach: the war was lost. It was lost the moment it started. Despite the fact that i hardly lost a battle at all, my manpower pool was not infinite and i could not deal with 3 nations all by myself. The Ottomans themselves, as i stated before, had a manpower pool pratically as big as mine, while poland had something close to 100.
So, lets make a big list of the important events that hapened so far:
- I am ghosted for 2 years while minting instead of teching LT
- Poland is ghosted for an entire sesson and gets 10000d as treasury
- The OE threatens to quit if i attack him in a 2v1 the previous session
- France+OE+Poland attack me in a 3v1 gang
- OE attacks me probably with something like 250-400k troops
- France attacks me with something like 50-70k troops
- Poland attacks me with something between 150-200k troops
- Russia itself had only a standing army of about 300-400k troops, about 100k which were all over the place in colonies.
- All the involved nations got LT 18 while i still have LT 17 due to the fact i was ghosted while minting
- Poland got some real good shockers with 5 or 6 shock each
- War ends in less than 2 years with more than 8000d lost on the Russian side (and hardly a battle lost!).
I will not make any commentaries about what i think of this big list, although i believe what is obvious, is, obvious. Still, i would like to highlight the initial points of this big list, notably, the OE's threats, and the way he behaved afterwards.
After the war i decided to sign a NAP with all the beligerent nations, except for France. I thought no one expected me to attack France due to my shitty fleet, but his fleet wasnt powerful enough either to protect all his posessions. So after France ends up their last war against Austria and their little allies, i attack France.
I was honorable enough to attack france alone and to wait for the end of his war, instead of attacking him during his war with austria. I had also recruited a lot of men and went far above my army supply limit - given the fact that Poland dishonoured their word, they could simply dishonour their non agression pact with me as well, so i was prepared for an eventual attack.
The war with France went very well - after the DOW took place, i was sieging like 8 french provinces at the same time, 2 of which were COTs. Given his fleet he could have put up a fight, but he decided to give up imediately. He probably knew that before he finished the fight with me, his truce with Austria would expire and he would get attacked again with very high WE in europe.
So in the end, i basically lost only 2 european provinces. But i lost too much money fighting and my economically barely increased at all despite the fact that my realm got a lot of more provinces.
