Venice 1598-1625

France started this period with a bold declaration of war. Demanding all Austrian and Venetian colonies in the Far East. Such a laughable treaty was rejected from the start and it soon came to blows. But not until Russia had been attacked by a French alliance.
Venice always had a soft spot for Russia so it seemed quite unfair that so many were to attack at once it wasn't all that unexpected considering previous war alliances and the occupation of distant COT's without a proper navy. Soon enough Russia fell but the demands didn't seem that harsh and Russia is a big country with plenty of provinces to give and take.

Meanwhile Austria and Brandenburg had built up their armies and were preparing for war with France. Venice had done the same and had positioned quite a number of troops in the Far East to prevent any easy war scores. Unfortunately France had done the same and when the war broke out the armies met on the battlefield. Battles proved inconclusive with neither side wiping the other one out and either side unable to raise much of an army so far away from Europe. Far east became a bit of a stalemate which both parties seemed to enjoy as they could concentrate on Europe.

Initial attacks had been successful as Parma had been captured and Genoa was sieged. Since France had a technological advantage over the Venetian navy it was hard to conduct proper warfare further into French land without naval landings and supply. So not much warscore was gained from provinces but plenty of battles fared well for Venice. The French army was routed several times and every time they tried to dislodge the siege in Genoa they lost big time with much more troops. Unfortunately the attrition became extremely high every time they did attack in such large numbers and more troops were lost to attrition than any actual fighting. Soon enough French was on the losing side and Venice was about to make a proper push when Austria foolishly sent a really lousy stabhit and the war was over.

Again Venice was denied her war goals of Parma and Genoa, the same provinces that 5 wars had been fought over.

Realizing this was only a lull in the fighting as Austria again promised Venice those provinces, which had been the goal of this war due to previous inconclusive wars and very one-sided peace deals in favor of others. The battles had also proved that France could be beaten even though it is so much bigger and richer. For the next war the Venetian navy had been upgraded and was ready to support the war effort. 2 new armies and a third support army was standing by to do a blitz in southern France. When the fighting started again there were some intense battles that mostly ended in Venetian favor. France was so tied up on other fronts that Venice could take the minimal fort, a small fort, leave a siege army in Genoa and still send out another army to chase the retreating French troops and take the minimal forts deep inside France.

At this point Venice was sitting on +80WS and with another province or 2 with battles it would've reached +99 easily. Venice could've force peaced France singlehandedly but it was at this time that Austria again offered a lousy peace to France since Brandenburg was falling to Sweden. The idea was to swing troops from France to Northern Europe to prevent a vassalization of BB. However Venice was not informed and all pleads of not giving France such a lenient peace after finally bringing her to her knees went unheeded. Sweden also offered Venice a white peace after the peace with France and accepted without even bothering to check the diplomatic map.

So to conclude: Venice has only gotten Genoa after 6 wars with France. Hardly worth all the money spent. At least a surplus was gained afterwards that allowed 3 new manufactories, chief judges and governors in all provinces.

It seems i wont be doing any edits this week since Drake hasnt bothered generating leaders yet.

Anyway - the French and English events are hard to confirm and would take some time, so when you got fishy stuff that needs to be edited, post them during the week and not a few hours before game starts.

Also some of the French edits are completely wrong - for instance, Kurnool is providing Golconda with 95d. Golconda, and not France. Golconda is Hindu (which means an instant +5% income boost), is at +3 stab (which means an instant +20% income boost) and Kurnool is Hindu and Dravidian, a religion/culture that Golconda shares with Kurnool. France on the other hand, is none of these, shares none of the above with Golconda, and isnt even at +3 stab, so it is rather obvious that they wouldnt be getting 95d yearly.

As for the English edits - English AAr is just too, too small. Sorry there Drake but you better invent something else. Also the gunpowder plot event for England did fire, so why it didnt convert provinces remains to be proved and this will take time as i will have to check several saves.

Kurnool under french control is 89D yearly, which comes to 2046 over 23 years instead of 2185. This isn't a huge difference, and since I didn't even ask for bonus to census I hardly think this qualifies as a reason to hold up all my other edits. And if you want to institude a deadline for edit requests do so, otherwise do the edits.

Reign of Louis XIII
210px-Louis_XIII_%28de_Champaigne%29.jpg

France in 1625 had a pitifully small army, a mere 80,000 men spread throughout Europe, Africa and Asia. France had been brutally attacked by Venice, Spain, Austria and Brandenburg in the previous session, losing two CoTs, a gold mine and four provinces in Europe. Louis had to re-evaluate his diplomatic position. A NAP was signed with Spain and India was ceded to England. A NAP offered to Austria, and it was made clear that this NAP would only apply to Austria, but he insisted on the right to defend Brandenburg if attacked. No mention was made of Venice: Austria's "ally" who Sorelus decided to abandon to her fate. When Poland attacked Austria, Louis saw the perfect opportunity to strike at Venice. This would be the first war which a young French general would distinguish himself. His name was Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne, Vicomte de Turenne.

200px-Henri_de_la_Tour_d%27Auvergne%2C_Vicomte_de_Turenne.jpg

Turenne invaded Genoa with an army of 80,000 with a reserve of 20,000 in Lombardia while Odet d'Harcourt waited in Parma with an addition 70,000 men. Venice was caught somewhat off guard and Turenne was able to assault Genoa unopposed. Turenne next marched on Pisa, launching an assault there, despite some nearby Venetian armies. The assault failed and Turenne was forced to withdraw to Genoa, and then chased back to Nice by purusing Venetian armies who began constructing siege works around the CoT. Harcourt then moved to Pisa, restarting the siege there and cutting off the Venetian retreat. After a quick assault Pisa fell and Harcourt and Turenne fell on the Venetians sieging Genoa. Despite an overwhelming advantage in numbers and leadership, the battle was lost and Turenne retreated to Parma. At this point in the war, the French armies were down to about 100,000 men in Europe: 70,000 under Turenne in Parma and some newly raised 30,000 reinforcements coming from the Rhone Valley. Venice had 40,000 men remaining in Genoa, another 70,000 attempting to re-capture Pisa and some 40,000 newly recruited troops.

France had enough warscore to start stabhitting for Genoa, and in a few months Table as well. Turenne, while waiting for his reinforcements to arrive marched to Mantova, then Bresica, sucessfully assaulting both. While Turenne was in Brescia, Venice attacked the 30,000 (leaderless) reinforcements which had gathered in Parma with 50,000 under a random leader. The French army retreated and the fort assaulted, but the Venetians lost large number of men from attrition. The Venetians evacuated the province and Turenne, now returning from Brescia, quickly recaptured it. Warscore was hovering at around +60 for France, and Venice continued to eat stabhits. Another attempt was made to dislodge the Venetians from Genoa, roughly 100,000 Frenchmen again failed to dislodge 40,000 Venetians. Turenne then decided on a change of strategy. Reinforced by a newly recruited cavalry contingent he decided to challenge the Venetians on the plains of Pisa, whose French defenders were sure to surrender soon. 80,000 French attacked the 100,000 Italians in Pisa. The resulting battle earned Turenne the title Marshal of France. 50,000 Venetians perished in Pisa, while Turenne lost around 8,000, mostly to attrition. Now the Venetian army in Genoa was dangerously exposed and out of supply, while the only other army Venice had in the field was retreating in disorder from Pisa. The small republic sued for peace, agreeing to cede its posessions on the island of Borneo in Indonesia.

While this war was happening Poland's invasion of Austria was being slowly beaten back due to superior Austrian morale. Despite this one versus one war being fairly even, Russia decided to invade Poland with 700,000(!) men, quickly forcing Poland to cede two provinces and peace Austria. Louis was infuriated by this brutal act, but could do nothing. He turned to his next task, the return of the former French provinces west of the Rhine: Pfalz, Trier and Koln. Koln was purchased from Brandenburg for 1,000 ducats. However, to secure Trier and Pfalz France needed his southeastern flank secure for the immediate and long-term future. To accomplish this Louis agreed to cede Lombardia and Parma to Venice and promised to defend her against any aggressors. In return, Venice pledged to help France in any future wars with Austria, and remain a staunch ally.

Louis' word was immediately put to the test when England attacked Venice without warning. Although France and England had a NAP, Louis could not let the incredibly powerful England manhandle France's new ally. Besides, Louis thought, had not England broken her NAP with France in 1561, saving Russia from losing a CoT? And had she not broken her NAP with Sweden in 1599, forcing that country out of the war so France had to face Venice, Brandenburg, Austria and Spain alone? A war which cost France her first overseas posession, the gold mine in Akan, and give Austria its first foothold west of the Rhine in 100 years, Pfalz. Louis decided that France would intervene in an attempt to save its new ally. Although France lacked a navy in Europe, Harcourt quickly captured Flanders, though the assault of Bremen failed. Turenne was stationed in Genoa to prevent English landings there, while in the Far East troops were embarked to assault English posessions in India. Unfortunately, France could do nothing to help Venice recapture its island posessions in Europe and Venice agreed to a lenient peace, ceding Malta. This war greatly delayed the planned assault of Austria.

Austria was again embroiled in a war with Poland when France attacked her. Venice joined the war, but Spain's intervention prevented Venice from actively participating in an offensive against Austria. Spain has maintained claims on Sardinia and Sicily since Venice took posession of them in the Fifteenth Century. However, Spain has ignored these claims for two hundred years while Venice waged six wars with France, most of them while allied with at least two other countries. Now that Venice has reached an agreement with France it is suddnely these islands are of vital interest to the Spanish monarch. France's NAP with Spain has now ended and Turenne is prepared to invade Iberia if necessary, however he hopes that the Spanish monarch will see the error of his ways and sign a white peace and NAP with France and Venice.

I suggest Option B here, if it was supposed to fire.

Since Richelieu was supposed to give an extra four points to the diplomacy, administration and military stats, over 22 years, thats ( 22 * 12 * 2 ) = 528D into Land and Naval and ( 22 * 12 * 3 ) = 792D into Infra and Land. ( ( 4 / 240 ) * ( 12 * 22 ) ) = -4.4 BB Louis XIII was already 7 military and 6 admin, so Richelieu caps him out at 9 in each.

Confirmed, and the province that defected I could've removed rebels and sieged but I didn't since I figured it would be edited. I hardly doubt anyone will object to it being edited as well.

Well, i dont know how a new player would want to give Lombardia and Parma to Venice.

Probably to secure his border. If venice has no claims in france, he would have no real reason to fight him.

Look, I did what I did in-game on to get those provinces. I would've declared a fake war to do it but things kept happening. This is clearly one of those moments when it's a limitation of the game engine that stands in my way. Not anything else. Besides it falls under the exploiting Simultanity rule in my book.

Venice 1625-1643

Due to rumors it seemed almost certain that Venice would fight alone real soon. Austria had signed a NAP with France but Venice was not included or even asked about this. Brandenburg had left the German-Italian alliance in the wake of vassalization and England, Russia and Spain had offered to buy several islands in the Mediterranean but the Doge wasn't interested in other nations having home waters off the coast of Venice hinterland. So without any major allies it seemed as if Venice previously so shrewd diplomacy could not stand up to test this time. France was first to attack of the major nations as Austria was embroiled in a separate war with Poland.

France had Turenne and a much larger economy to back him up with. The war goals of France were that of Borneo. All of Italian colonial far east were to be ceded or else Italy would burn was the ultimatum from France. Venice knew it could not actually win the war but maybe if Italy fought hard enough a port or two in the east could be saved. Early on Genoa was lost due to improper positioning of troops. The navy was out of position to quickly transport the army to Genoa and the actual army was down in Sicily fighting rebels while a medium force was guarding Venice itself. With the fall of Genoa France could quickly move south and east to gain more momentum but despite the early chaos a Venetian army managed to beat the French and move to siege Genoa. Several times the French with overwhelming numbers and leadership tried to lift the siege but Venetians in mountains should rightfully be feared. Massive casualties to the French were seen but they left a barren landscape behind them causing attrition for the troops.

As successful the Genoa Army might have been it didn't matter much since an assault of the city was out of the question with all the French armies attacking and when the main French army swung east to the plains with their smaller forts enough ground was lost for the people to get angry when the Doge wanted to continue the fight. Most of the Venetian army was intact and winning several battles but they were just to few to take back lost territory. Land won this war and Venice lost hers. Borneo was ceded.

England that had been denied Venetian islands and Sicily decided to jump on the bandwagon and attack Venice not soon after. With Austria still burning and without any real navy it was clear to the Doge that Austria could not guarantee Italian independence. A deal was worked out with France were she would cede most of the occupied Italian lands in exchange for peace, cooperation and alliance. With Venice looking down the barrel of a gun it was an easy choice even though it was made with a heavy heart.

England was cowardly attacking islands and other possessions not easily reached by Venetians as the English had amassed a huge navy lead by great admirals. Fort after fort fell with nothing Venice could do really but then they got too bold. They tried a naval landing in Venice itself and started assaulting. This time the Italian navy could not stand idly by and set sail to fight off the invaders no matter what. By divine will the navy numbering almost half of the English one won the day inflicting heavy losses and locking the army in Venice in. Still, the English army somehow managed to teleport onto the ships even though they were locked in combat and then fleeing while the army was going to be attacked in a day or two.

France at this point stepped in and assaulted the English centers of trade in Europe and swung the balance of war way back. England decided to settle for Malta. Malta had actually been offered to the English in exchange for not attacking but for some reason they never took it and they definitely lost more money in the war than they would have if they just paid for the island. But such is the nature of kings.

Spain, of course, smelling blood decided to attack Venice yet again. Same wargoals as before. Sicily and Malta even though Malta was not Venetian anymore. Again Spain tried to do massive naval landings to quickly assault forts and force an early end to hostilities. However venetian soldiers fought bravely in the forts and managed to repel attacks in the excess of hundreds of thousands. Attrition was wreaking havoc on the Spanish troops so they tried to spread out and take Genoa. This time a massive army routed that attempt as the Doge did not want to have a repeat of the French war. With the assaults of Sicily failing and the army spread out on the islands in the Mediterranean Spain might want to do a white peace. Considering the fact that the French and Spanish NAP runs out now and the French army has been idle since their attack on Austria...

aar england

england in 1625 was atpeace, as it had been for the previous decades however things where about to change
in 1628 england once again received the service of a capable general and shortly after in 1635 a very capable admiral joined the royal navy alowing the english to pack a much stronger punch then before

england always wanted sicily and/or malta & creta so with this new leadership it was desided we should give it a try
unfortunatly we did not anticipate the french breaking the nap to protect there new allys, something that annoyed us greatly and i dont think that relations between france & england are on a very high point at the moment despite the re-signing of the nap shortly after the war
french also assaulted flandren & sieged bremen/holstein wich is a event i did not anticipate and did not take long to request to bb to cancel the Ma between bb & france as the entire strategy between giving up oldenburg was the fact that france would be unable to reach bremen/holstein
altho we dont hold a grudge vs bb for this as they did as requested it was stil a fairly annoyng event for england as i was forced to give venice a lenient peace, i could have kept the war going but my unpreparednes in facing france would have cost me alot of time & effort to recover from so malta was offert & accepted
sad tho as venice his army was stuck in venice & would have been anihilated shortly after by fairfax while his fleet was stuck in a port nearby unable to push monck from the seazone so they effectivle lost the war and would have lost quite badly

after this war france & venice imidiatly dowed austria & i believe poland joined to, when i was preparing to face poland i received a threat from sweden that he would defend poland show i attempt to invade, wich was not liked in the english capitol at all, 1interference cost us a war 2mins ago so so i was annoyed quite a bit, hence england desided to build a massive fleet and attack sweden instead of poland
fortunatly tho it apears i cooled down a bit so i might review my future dow on sweden & dow somebody else(god knows who), i cant really just disband 500ships so i might aswell use em so they sink for a cause

other then that the english realm took over india from france & finished colonising the region, im stil in the process of converting a few remaining provinces to protestantism, england also received 2deflations so was minting most of the session to build many shipyards & manufacturys on the british islands
on a sidenote more gold has been found in the north american continent and are in the process of colonising both regions as we are experiencing a sudden goldrush now that the bancrupty events have been finished :x

and i remind ego to chek out the gunpowder plot issue for me as im stil lacking 2random conversions

Poland was actually first to fight. They were at war with Austria before you even dowed me.

my bad i didnt notice that then ven & france are double easy as you dowed a ongoing war :)

Well FRA did attack me when Austria got dowed by Poland.

deflation here too.

Tsardom of Russia 1625-1643

Payback time

Session started and since i knew that no one actually gave a damn if i got ganged, specially the ones attacking Russia together in an alliance, i had to take some drastic steps to make sure i wouldnt fall so easily as last time.

There were a couple of things in the session before this one that were fatal to my extremely bad perfomance:

- My Leaders and the Leaders my enemy had
- My Morale, both due to DP sliders and due to monarch
- Lack of Fortifications in the south
- Lack of CRT
- Amount of enemy troops
- Shortage of manpower / troops to fight with

The lack of CRT was a serious problem. My enemies didnt even have the decency to let me tech it since i was GHOSTED while MINTING. So, due to the lack of CRT, even though i barely lost a battle at all, my battle casualties were too big. So big that my manpower pool got depleted fast and i was forced to peace.

Of course, that wasnt the only problem. The fact that i only had minimals near the border with the OE made it too easy for the Turks to capture these provinces for cheap warscore.

So at the start of this session, i decided to build a lot of forts. And i really mean, a lot. Lots of Large forts were built in the south to prevent the Turks from overwhelming that front should i attack/get attacked by Poland. I also didnt know if i would get attacked soon, but since i thought i would be the prime target, once more, i decided to get a huge army far above my support limit.

It was more or less around this time that Poland attacked Austria. Austria started spamming me with alliance offers although Poland kept it always in a 1v1. I thought of staying neutral all the time, but why should i ? Poland attacked me in a 3v1 gang, and after Austria was done for i would probably be faced with such another gang, so i decided to step in after a few years had taken place.

By this time, Poland had 0 or close to 0 manpower, and little more then 100k men. The Turks were also busy playing single player in India, and they barely had a standing army of 200k men. And more than half of these were in India. So i decided to attack Poland. The Turkish army would take a lot of time to mobilize, the poles were hopeless, and i had a CRT of advantage. The moment the declaration of war took place, i had like 700.000 men. Dulgorokov went on assaulting the lovely medium forts that Poland had built for me with little more than 100.000 men. Results: all fort fell without a lost siege.

When Poland saw the situation they were in, they capitulated imediately. I barely lost 40.000 men in that war. In exchange for peace, i demanded the provinces Poland had taken from me last session. I should have demanded more, but i prefered to keep things nice.

After this war i was left with a huge army but since things werent over yet i didnt disband them. 5 or 7 years later, i attacked the OE this time, in order to assert my command over the caucasus. The OE was better prepared this time (although still lacking a CRT), but they were still busy playing single player in India, so their army in Europe/Asia minor wasnt that big, and the army they had defending their european/minor asia holdings were all in Hungary, so i called Spain in to blockade the strait while i laid siege to all of the Turkish Empire without problems.

Poland joined, but the OE capitulated after less than 1 year of fighting. I demanded 2 provinces for me and 2 for Austria. Austria, however, did not join my alliance in order to ask the provinces, and instead attacked the OE alone. They still got the provinces from the OE, but Poland understood this as some sort of agreement/nap breach and attacked Austria.

A few seconds before that (the declaration of war between Poland-Austria), i had just signed peace with the OE, and since the OE was a Polish ally, i had automatically gotten a truce with Poland as well. So i couldnt help Austria this time versus Poland.

It was after this, that France decided to join versus Austria for an easy rape. And i couldnt move a finger to help Austria in any way. But to be frank, i shouldnt, either, since Austria just stood there watching Russia dying the last time i got ganged while i had signed a defensive pact for an indefinite period of time with them just the session before i got ganged.

So in a short resume, apart from the usual trading and boring colonialism, i built a crap load of nice forts and built a huge fucking army far above my supply limit, which i used to attack Poland and the Turks with. But let it be known, that although i managed to grab 4 provinces from human players, i barely lost 150k during the entire session.

Edited gold inflation. 7% for Spain, 3.2% for Russia, 0.2% for France.

About French edits: I gave them 1% deflation and -4 BB as session/aar cookies. In the session that ended in 1625 France had 0% inflation so -1% inflation would do nothing.
