The Kingdom of England recognizes Britanny was a French vassal. But annexing it would lead to unpredictable consequences.

And what The King of France means with "Austrian Agression"? The annexation of Genoa was made before Austria had attacked Venice and annexed Milano (which the Archduke guaranteed to me that was for legitime defense). Also Austria cede his right in Franch Comté and Artois to France. So I cant see why France would annex Genoa because Austrian agressions.

What intrigues the World is Why would Spain split Genoa with France, taking the useless Corsica and giving Genoa and its Center of Trade to France??? Did the Spanish King become a French vassal or American gold made him become crazy?

What the King of France does with His vassals is His business. If you persist in telling Him what to do with His vassals then He will start telling you what you can and cannot do with your vassals.

The people of Genoa sick and tired of the oppresion and tyranny of the Doria and their Austrian masters turned to His Majesty and begged for His protection. Being the upholder of truth, justice and all things good and righteous His Majesty was forced to respond. Since His Majesty's fleet was necessary in other theatres the King of Spain agreed to help with the alleviation of the suffering of the people of Corsica so that the Doria would not be able to escape to that island and continue their tyranny.

It should be noted that the English Governement has behaved most disparagingly to their most August Majesties the Kings of France and Spain. The English have insulted the King of France by daring to tell Him what to do with His vassals and then insulted the King of Spain by starting malicious rumours about him and calling him crazy. The King of Spain is a dear friend of the King and France and any insults towards that Majesty will be looked upon in extreme displeasure by His Majesty.

To the Honorable King of France,

It is quite uncertain why Paris hold such a feeling to us. Austria have never been aggressive, specially to our good neighbours of the Italian principalities in the peninsula, who can tell how magnanimous we have been these years; specially the people of the Milanesado who graciously have offered us the Duchy to my family and we humbly have accepted.

Genoa haven't been threatened by the Empire nor haven't been treated wrong when we had received their envoys, the Doria family who are now being protected by us at the Milanesado after fleeing their rightfull territory, can fairly speak about our good behavious towards our Italian friends. The only situation is the stubbornes and aggressiveness of the terrible Republic of Venice towards us, but that is being resolved.

The Genoan situation will continue being under study by me and my advisors.

Regards,

Maximilian I
Holy Roman Emperor
Archduke of Austria
Duke of Styria, Carinthia, Carniola and Milan
Count of Tyrol and Burgundy

Your Majesty,

The King of France has long held his Austrian brother in high regard. However your unwillingness to recognise our claims to calais and furthermore your actions in forming an alliance with the English have really displeased His Majesty. His Majesty feels disillusioned towards Austrian intentions. His Majesty is still hopeful of resolving the situation with Austria and hopes that the Emperor will explain to his Majesty the reasons for his forming an alliance with the English. His Majesty hopes the Emperor is able to see the truth in His words and that relations will be able to return to their former heights.

The King of England isnt telling what the King of France will do with his vassals but what The French SHOULD do and warn that despite Henry VII is a lover of peace, he will not permit that Gaelic people suffer under French control. Vassalize its recognized, annexation wont be. But you can do whatever you want, just be aware of the consequences of your acts.

About the Spanish King, the English Emissary gave two answers to the question that the world is making, if the King of France already picked one (that he was called Crazy) its because the situation is worse that His Majesty, Henry VII, was thinking.

Signed by the foreign minister of His Majesty, the wise Henry VII, King of England, Ireland and Scotland.

IMHO, TG, we should only reward the winner of the week, because of two things:

1) We would avoid thousands of edits to our beloved Editor, that this way would have to edit prizes for EVERYONE;

2) Ppl would do some efforts to win the prize. Which means better AARs.

To accomplish that, I think that we should maybe give a little more attractive prizes (since now only one will gain it). And to force ppl to write sth you should give penalties too, for everyone who doesnt write an AAR in 2 weeks (demanding every week is not respecting RL problems but at least 1 per 2 session seams reasonable).

I promisse this will be my last coments on this. Sorry :eek:o

Punishing someone for not writing an aar is just stupid imo. Its not fair to force us to write an aar if we dont want to. i think we should just offer a prize for the weekly winner.

Calling a personal opnion stupid is already a not so good way to defend your point of view. Also I dont think its an absurd to slightly punish ppl that in 2 session hasnt even write ONE paragraph (or 5-6 lines) of what happened in the last 40 years with his nations.

But it is stupid. :p

If someone doesnt want to write 4 lines for 400 years worth of history, then thats their decision. I dont see why we should force them to write anything. It doesnt affect the game whatsoever.

Yep, that's a nice idea.. but due to our recent experience with ATE1, that didn't do much for encouraging people that normally don't do it, to do it; I got tired punishing people around :( . So, I'll prefer to just give something to reward the ones that have done it, plus, people who don't have the feeling of making a really good one will finally prefer of not doing any since always the prize will be given to the ones that have done it better...

Besides, the prizes are not that complicated, even I can edit them in a few minutes :D

Austria doesn't really know why our alliance with our friends in England has to do with being "aggressive in Italy"; it happens that England and Austria have common believes in peace and balance in Europe, is that why France is disllusioned? in us believing in peace?

As far as we know, France shouldn't speak so loudly on behalf of our cousins in Spain.

Meanwhile, far away from Europe

From the diary of Colvilha

The last ship arrived from Lisbon brought the most dreadful news. The spanish had conquered some strange lands in the Indies (I think he said some name as Achecs or something they conquered). And I am exploring some awful place, full of savages that can't be conquered, no cities or kings to defeat. I think my opportunities to fame and fortune are very small.

And the ships brought even worst news. New commanders had arrived -Albuquerque and Almeyda- and they will be at charge of the expeditions from now on. I am to move my troops to the new discovered island of Zanzibar and put under their orders. And then they will be conquering and having all the rewards. The best years of my life lost exploring these dark lands. Well, at least one of my soldiers discovered gold. Maybe I could be rich in the end. But these were not the hopes I had when I left Lisbon. How much I could gave to see the city again.

Official Documents of the War against Morocco. Letter from the Duke of Coimbra to the King

<initial salutation ommited>

... but I have to say that the commander of the forces in Morocco should be dismissed. He was not only being defeated in his first action -and with large cavalry forces-, he could not avoid that Tangiers was taken. That the peasants and local nobles took arms to expel the moors was very delightful, although since they were muslims it seems that any plan to follow the example of Spain in Andalusia will need to be put on hold. It seems that their loyalty to the king and Portugal is greater that their wishes to be under muslim government.

We needed to sent large reinforcements, and some of them were defeated by Algiers, to finally be able to put their cities on siege and taken. And our wretched commander, and I think this shows the need for not letting them have plenipotenciary powers, then was tricked by the Moroccans in accepting an astonishing peace treaty and we received some worthless lands and no ducats as indemnity. The only good thing is that we could be able to annex the Moors in a next war.

Our dear and most excellent king will note that the new lands need some portuguese governors of high nobility. I think you had already noted the most good abilities of my second son, and if you could be able to give him a title and lands in Portugal Africa, you could show the world how gracious is our majesty and how well are our lands ruled.

France is disillusioned with Austrian actions in allying with England and not recognising rightful French claims to calais. Furthermore France is disillusioned by the fact that while Austria and England are busy expanding their influence where they see fit, they dare tell the King of France where he may or may not expand and what he should and should not do with his vassals. All of the above are unacceptable and seems to suggest some sort of Anglo-Austrian pact with aggressive intentions toward France.

The born of a new nation

After many years of living in the dark the Swedish nobles decided to break up with the Danish king, with the support of the mighty Ugric families from the east and the rich Scandinavian nobles from Stockholm the Swedish people broke up their vassaliation with the Danes and declared war to Denmark.

The fertile and well populated southern Danish cities were perfect for long sieges, Skane and Oslo were the first to fall, but the Man Power of the nation was very low and even though the national regenter decided to pay the extra maintenance there were not enough men in order to siege Copenhagen, so Jutland was the last objective...
After 3 years of war the national treasury was depleting and rebels in Finland were trying to start their own nation encouraged by our action against the Danes... we don’t know if the Danish king noticed that we were needing peace as much as they needed it, but by the end of 1498 they offered three provinces in return for peace and It was immediately agreed, our troops finally returned home...

I don’t know if this war made us richer than before, too many people died and many harvests were burned by the looters... but there is one thing certain, nationalism raised inside our people, and the only way to live in peace is by having an only one ruler in this region... so its either they or us, our people knows that and that’s why the drums are sounding in the east again, the truce is about to end, new conscripts have joined the army and new generals have appointed to our cause... this war shall not end until Sweden Rules the North

Austria
1492 - 1502

The Archduchy is being known

Despite of fruitfull years under the rule of Frederick V Habsburg, Austria couldn't pose a stronger face to the rest of Europe, but instead it managed to reorganize our central Administration, a hard task due to how extended are Habsburgian domains, after the inheritance of Burgundy.

In 1493, the son of Archduke Frederick, Maximilian Habsburg, succeded his father after the latter passed away. Maximilian was rapidly appointed as the Holy Roman Emperor by the Diet of Salzburg; a reunion arrenged by the Bavarian Elector, where most of the electors solemnly proclaim their fidelity to the new Archduke of Austria, Maximilian I. This way, Maximilian has secured himself the collaboration of the entire Empire.

One of the first task of the new Archduke-Emperor was to reorganize the Army, a duty awfully done by his predecesor, a true pacifist but who lacked the strategist side of a general. Mostly the new arrangement guarantee a quick response to any threat. A new army was instituted in the Netherlands, to protect our precious holdings there, specially against foreign attacks. And the Home Guard was reinforced to patrol the main core of Austria.

Diplomatic contacts have also been the main task for our Archduke, which have succesfully concluded some agreements, mostly fruitfull for our nation. The most important one have been the alliance with the English King; whom our Archduke share positions of balance and peace in Europe. In between, a treaty with France have been concluded in which our Archduke guaranteed the devolution of territories held by us, but that had been demanded by the French King for so long, such territories are the Franche-Compte and the Artois.

Despite our peaceful approach, one european character have not liked our positions and have been aggressive with our envoys and merchants, and that is the Republic of Venice. Even though they lost a terrible war against the Turkish Sultan, they refuse our help, and even they insulted us. That's why our Archduke decided to teach them a lesson, with the bless of his Holyness and the rest of the Italian Principalities, where our government and our Archduke is being saw as models of how a country must be run.

The war was very short, the Venetians lost most of their fleet in their war against the Turkish, so their main weapon had disappered. The command of the Austrian troops was give to General Kruyer, who led his way into Mantua, after breaking two venetians garrisons. Kruyer then ordered the second battalion commanded by Mayor Berg to start their trip into the Veneto area. Berg managed to defeat a small garrison outside the walls of Venice itself but the way he commanded the siege of the city was terrible, and he was demoted. General Von Frundsberg was appointed in this post. Von Frundsberg mobilized better and after collecting some guns, he managed to finally bring the city into their knees. Meanwhile, Kruyer defeated bands of Mercenaries that the Venetian brought. This way, Venice decided that it was enough, and their solemnly ceded his Mantua holdings, that were near Milan, and big bounty.

According to our policy to bring peace to the Italian Peninsula, our Archduke and Emperor accepted the suggestion made by the people of the Duchy of Milan, that their territory be under the command of the Habsburgian family. The last Sforza died quietly in his bed, consenting the decision of his people and his personal advisors, he signed the will where the Sforza family ceded the inheritance rights of the Milanesado to our Archduke Maximilian I and his descendants.

These years have been quite active, but the future promises more active ones, what will be the luck of our Archduke?.... hopefully a Good One :)

The actions of our alliance may only be seen if we see an unfair use of the force, since we are guaranteeing peace and balance in Europe. Beyond that England and Austria haven't used our alliance to evil actions.

Furthermore France is disillusioned by the fact that while Austria and England are busy expanding their influence where they see fit...
Hmmm... France speaking of expansion?.. perhaps the Honorable French King haven't seen his troops climbing the high mountains of Switzerland to bring terror to their peasants and their governors, and then going down to the coast of the Mediterranean in the Italian peninsula to expell the Doria family of their rightfull native territory, Genoa.... it's quite interesting  :p

The Ottoman Empire: 1492 - 1502

1492 - 1502

The end of the 15th century held mixed fortunes for the Ottoman Empire. Pressured by fellow Muslims on the steppes of Asia, an alliance was signed. However, in a heart-breaking show of divisiveness, the nations of Crimea and Persia repeatedly refused safe passage through their lands, so no real aid could be rendered to the Golden Horde. Within a decade, that nation was wiped from the map by the butchers from Muscowy.

Attentions were then drawn to the west and the islands of Venice. After some preparation, war was declared and troops disembarked all over the Mediterranean. This was somewhat complicated by an alliance that Venice had with Moldava, but that country was overrun in a matter of months. The Venetian navy sailed out to meet the Ottoman navy, and despite being outnumbered 2:1, the turkish sailors sent the enemy ships fleeing back to Venice. Further naval engagements were more predictable, but eventually the navy of Venice was no more.

After securing the islands, troops were brought back to the mainland to assist the sieges already underway. An Austrian declaration of war brought germanic troops into Mantua and Venice. Thinking that the Venetians would surely surrender since they no longer controlled any territory, peace was offered in exchange for all of the territory under Ottoman control. Surprisingly, Venice refused. It appeared that they considered the cities under Austrian control safe from the Ottomans, and had not given up hope.

After some consideration, troops were sent to attack the only remaining ally of Venice - the Papal States. Equipped with firearms and significant amounts of cavalry, the army sliced through Papal troops with ease. Marche and Romagna fell, but still the offers of peace were rebuffed. Finally, as a breach was created in the walls at Roma, Venice offered peace. Dubbed the "Christmas Peace", Venice agreed to surrender all territory under Ottoman control. Now, with the long and taxing war finally over, the Sultan of Sultans must economically secure his holdings and re-establish stability throughout the land.
