I think we ought to scrap the bidding system. Why:
- This is a historical scenario, not one that tries to have equalized countries, so there is no need to fine tune balance through this means
- In historical scenarios, people generally don't pick countries based on which one they think is the strongest, they pick based on which one they want to try, so penalizing somebody for really badly wanting to play a country accomplishes nothing.
- And some players will just choose not to bid because they hate inflation. I'd like to play Poland, but I'm just gonna avoid bidding if the alternative is to start out with 4-5 inflation. I could handle Genoa, or the OE or whatever is leftover, but only because I hate inflation more.
If anything, bidding where some ppl bid high to get their preferences, while otehrs don't feel too strongly about their countries and so choose not to bid, will result in greater imbalance than normal. The historical setup will be skewed because some ppl will be unable to afford minting/war taxes early.
Why don't we just all say 3 countries we like and then have Fal allocate them according to balance and preference? That way we can ensure that responsible players get the good countries too, and that you don't have something like a noob in France, and a vet like Tonio in Austria.
