Ahh cool! Thanks for the quick replies. Are the POP files based on research people have done (i.e. the POP files as seen in VIP), as opposed to the ones that came with the game. If so, will the extra cultures be included (as in VIP), or just things like making the Arabic culture one big culture again??

The POP files are based on VIP's POP files, with all the divisions and new cultures that have been included up through VIP:R 0.2.

That it will use VIP POPs also means that adapting VIP to it will be simply a thing of reassigning provinces in the campaign, revolt and event files, this of course is a quite extensive thing to do, but that the POPs are already there removes the hardest part of the work

Is there a possibility of getting lists of provinces belonging to countries in 1836? I am making a map for myself to use but I am having trouble with South America. :)

Yeah if the Clio map could get posted with the numbers of the provinces on (like Kaigon's map) that would be quite useful for future mods, etc...

What I am searching for is which provinces belonging to which country in 1836. Doing countries like Paraguay and Argentina is a pain.

I am planning to develop a full atlas a la Kaigon once things are clearly "set" in terms of province borders etc.

PW - check out the maps on this site, has an extensive collection of 19th C maps that should help you in the process.

Yeah that site is quite good. I used it for when I first tried creating the Patagonia state... although we later found that 'effective' control didn't necessarily extend as far as those maps on that site.

EDIT: Isn't "Salonika" supposed to be spelt with a 'c' instead of a 'k' ?? So "Salonica" ??

Excuse moi. I like this project very much, specially being from South America. The map was so horribly deformed that I couldn't stand looking at it. So I started playing Prussia.

The job done until here was great, and I anxiously await to see the results. However, I think some borders in South America aren't correct. There were many conflicts in the continent and many international disputes and wars over several territories. Can adjustments be done or there is few free provinces left?

I would just like to tell OHgamer, and all the others that are working on Clio that they are doing a wonderful job! This modification will surely make my sleepless nights playing Victoria much, much, MUCH more exciting! It's a wonderful thing you're doing for the community. I'm sure everyone who downloads this new map will certainly be pleased! I myself will replace the current map with this one as soon as it is released! Thank you so much for doing this. It makes me so happy to see people doing things that will make the masses happy!

What specifically did you have in mind? As far as I know, all, or almost all, territorial disputes have been modeled as accurately as possible.

I guess it would be good that either all Chinese prov are in Wade-giles or pinyin. A mix mix situation is not ideal

I think it would be best to use Peking, Canton etc for the map. since those are the sort that would have most often been used back then what style are you using for Clio thoug

Nice work! Shouldn't some of the African names be colonial names, though?? For example, shouldn't Harare be Salisbury, Angra Pequena be Luderitz, Maputo be Lourenço Marques, and Banjul as Bathurst?? To the best of my knowledge these cities (I'm sure there are more, but these just stood out) were founded in colonial times with those colonial names. Seems like a lot of modern names were used instead?

The "modern" names go back to pre-colonial names for the areas before the irruption of European domination.

Also, consider that in not all games there is going to be the historical colonizer taking a region - so having a Salisbury for Harare when say the Germans or Portuguese colonize it is as problematic. At least Harare was a local toponym before colonization, even if the British chose not to use it.

Another area where the EU3 map system is much superior - as of the In Nomine patch IIRC you can change province names in game. Can't do that with the old-engine based maps, since the province names are part of the map artwork itself, not an additional layer generated by the game engine.

What about the places which were already named as such upon start-up in 1836 though. Surely they warrant their colonial-period names? I think a lot of those places I named for example weren't settlements at all prior to colonisation, I may be wrong though?
