Exactly gbem, I can't understand how people can even make this claim that there are numerous eastern front games, western front games completely dwarfs the number of eastern front games but then I understand why it is the case which is perfectly understandable i.e. "market" but to deny this is like denying that Sun exists.

USSR in WW2 was pretty much throw bodies at it until its dead
Arty spam, Infantry spam, tank spam, repeat if it fails
do you really want to lose 5-6 tanks to kill one enemy tank? do you really want to lose 10 soldiers to kill one enemy soldier? what about planes was there (and this is an honest question) a soviet plane with a 1/1 Kill ratio that wasnt lend leased to them? Even if there was would anyone believe it? Soviet records are sketchy as hell at best.

To make the USSR playable without spam, realism would have to be thrown out the window and extreme liberties would have to be taken for balance sake. What in reallife would be a tank with farmers some of wich could not read (T-34 was designed so even the most basic uneducated person could use it) would instead be a fully trained elite tank crew. what would in reality be partisans with almost no training would turn into a fully trained infantry. ETC.

Id much rather see the current countries on differant fronts or the almost unrepresented Pacific i can only think of 2 games with the Pacific theater represnted in the last 3-4 years and thats Rising Storm DLC and MoW wich doesnt even represnt the fighting in a realistic manner just Japan prototype spam If Pacific front was repesented properly it would be a whole new experiance that you cant really get in any other game right now. alot more interesting then another Eastern front slog again.

This is just so "pop history" wrong that I am not even sure where to begin, suffice to say if that would had been the case Germany would had captured USSR 5 times in two months.

And to reach a consensus, when was the last time an American or Russian editor did a WW2 game about the 1940 campaign in France? ;)
Is there even a videogame in any genre aside from Hearts of Iron that has 1940 France in it? Like i cant think of any and i think that would be a very interesting game aswell.

But this isn't exactly fair comparison, even though they do have many western front focused games from top of my head Theater of War Africa, Clffs of Dover etc.

Itisn't a fair comparison because West given its economical clout has far more further reach in all thing related to entertainment not just video games than any Russian or non western countries (except Japan), so there is more expectation from them. I am an Indian and I certainly feel so.

Hmm i forgot about the new graviteam tactics games... operation star mius and kharkov...
Theatre of war 2 kursk has the battle of caen expansion meaning it features the west soo it doesnt count as eastern front only
Theatre of war 2 centauro and afrika i forgot to add... but thats western front
Gates of hell... never heard of it
Forgot about condemned heroes
Still the count brings it to 11 eastern front games to now 22 western front games... there is still incredible amount of bias to the western front

Yeah i guess the fall of gelb and nord were underepresented... so is the pacific front... madmat is right on that one

But Africa isnt western front is it, it was the African front, in Africa, with troops from across the world involved in it.

That feeling when i will never be able to rush the fields of france with light tank Mk VI's and A13s against panzer II's :(

Panzer General had two maps on France 1940 one for Fall Gelb and one for Fall Rot, and the first Steel Panthers had a 1940 campaign (2nd Panzer).

Excuse me but... there have been alot more western front/western allies only RTS games than eastern front ones
Western front games
5 out of 6 Close combat games
4 Combat mission games
CoH 1 and its 2 standalone expansions opposing fronts and tales of valor
Desert rats vs afrika korps
D-day
Officers ww2 overlord
4 The commandos games
Battle of the bulge (game)
Commad ops battle of the bulge

A grand total of 20 games not counting this one

Eastern front only games
Men of war red tide
Close combat russian front
Combat mission barbarossa to berlin and red thunder
Mockba to berlin
Icy hell
Stalingrad

A grand total of....7 games...
soo please mr "too many russians in ww2 games" people... please shut it
This self-imposed martyrdom is insipid.

No one said "there are too many Soviet-focused WWII games." If you could quote where anyone said that, it'd be nice. I won't hold my breath; you won't because you can't.

I also can't help but notice that you went out of your way to post games that are solely focused on the Eastern Front, rather than feature the Eastern Front in them. What, do Eastern Front enthusiasts need a safe space?

Aren't there enough eastern front games these times?

• Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943
• Graviteam Tactics: Operation Star
• Graviteam Tactics: Mius Front
• Theatre of War 3: Kursk
• Gary Grigsby's War in the East

...

Don't think everyone has be the red army in, tough the mentioned above are some of my favourites.

And this one?

Sorry I should have worded it correctly, Western allies were fighting in Africa, so technically you are correct but my point still stands, its a game with US and UK units in it i.e. a game about western armies rather than eastern armies.

How the hell this line, "I'd say there have been more ostfront or ostfront-centric WW2 games than western front," doesn't mean that according to the author of this line there have been more eastern front games than western front since 2000s? I mean, seriously? It literally means that, I have no idea what sort of mental gymnastic is required to make it mean something else.

But meh, in the end obviously there are much much more western centric wargames than eastern centric, its as true as the earth orbiting the Sun but then its also understandable why it is the case.

But the author didn't say that there were 'too many;' the vital phrase in the accusation. No one said that there were 'too many.'

This... "What, do Eastern Front enthusiasts need a safe space?"
Yes. An observation from the fact that you're kicking and screaming about this title not being an Eastern Front-focused title, and your absolute unwillingness to compromise with other titles that feature both the Eastern and Western fronts.
