Will Paradox move from DirectX to OpenGL?

I could write a long angry text about what I think about the OpenGL review board and how they have handled stuff lately but it would prob bore most people here. I dont have very high hopes for the future of OGL sadly, I prefer it as an API despite some of the more horrible stuff.

- supporting GL is a lot harder. there are A TON more bugs to deal with and driver quality is atrocious for anything outside the newest nvidia and ati (they have gotten a lot better!)
- hardly any helpful tools and libraries (you got a lot of nice stuff with the DX world)
- Linux players who actually feel like paying for games tend to just use wine/cedega (or what its called these days) which has always run fine for me.
- Mac ports (being a mac user myself) would of course be easier if we did everything with GL, but we have another company who handles most of that stuff for us and it seems to work fine.

Okay fine, I rephrase the question. Why are so few Paradoxi employees having the Golden Platypus?

its reserved for the truly enlightened ,those that have transcended and are now one with the great golden platypus (or they havent added it yet to themselves)

The rest of us are too busy working our behinds off to get games out :)

At lunchtime, where go the paradox members to eat? (kebabs, hamburgers, italiano,... now typically in sweden :D )

Depends. Monday is kebab day, Tuesday pizza, Wednesday curry (or indian), Thursday "Fancy Pasta" and Friday... depends on what people are craving.

This isn't set in stone and several of us eat left-overs or lunch boxes.

And what is your favourite episode of Star Trek (Those who reply "I don't like Star Trek" will be branded liars. Everyone likes Star Trek.)
.

tough one. DS9 had some really really good ones. personally I like a lot of the holodeck episodes from Next gen. (anything with data & moriarty is great). In fact I always felt the holodeck/time travel etc episodes were a lot more interesting than any of the space stuff.

I skip pizza though.. Something asian if possible then.. like Gyoza :)

But why should paradox start the beta application phase for a third-party game? I think this should do the developer of the game and not the publisher. Maybe I am wrong, too. ;)

We did for Aod, FtG, EiC etc.

1. Which side of the bed do you prefer to sleep on, and how do you prefer to sleep? (e.g. on side + tucked in a ball, passed out on your face/stomach...) This question is really pure nonsense, freely ignore it :p

2. What is your favorite pet to have, realistically? What pet would you have if you could tame any creature (fantasy included)?

3. Since that just reminded me of the Ranger class, what is your favorite class when playing an RPG? (e.g. caster, rogue, fighter, etc...)

4. If you were left on a desert island and could only bring one computer game with you to play for eternity, what would it be?

Cheers!

1. Furthest from the wall. If in the middle of the room, it does not matter.
2. Cat/T-Rex or Dragon
3. Rouge/Ranger
4. Diablo 2... I could spend an eternity collecting set items.

@ Paradox: Do you guys ever talk about/mention posters in your conversation? Do you remember our names? Will you be eating lunch and be like 'Oh [insert poster] made a thread about x that you should read" or "[inster poster] is becoming disillusioned with us, we must stop him/her!"? Do you like know and memorize posters like we do? Or are we merely speaking dollar signs?

Yes. Some good poster, moderators ofc and then the bad ones, when we wonder if they are going to cross the line and get banned any day soon. They usually do.

- Who in the office is the biggest warmonger? (likes to paint the map his color)

Everyone I think. In our current MP though, I think Tegus, Birken and Yonaz are fairly tied.

How does one sign up with Paradox for working on the historical research department ;) ?

Know history, games, have the right attitude, learn Swedish and wait for an opening. It might be a while, we like our current ones. :)

Who was cooler: Kirk or Picard?
And what is your favourite episode of Star Trek (Those who reply "I don't like Star Trek" will be branded liars. Everyone likes Star Trek.)
Thirdly, Why is talking in all caps like the booming voice entity from TOS banned? If I was a pure energy being/cloud/conciousness stuck inside a sphere for a millenia/Puppet, I would not be happy.

I hate it when I have to be new school, but Picard. Favourite episode is hard, but I think I have to go for the one where Picard goes borg.
I don't think it is banned if you are a cloud/conciousness thingie.

Since noone else has asked sofar;
What's this Legio, and where do we find information on it?

I'll post about in in OT, just as soon as I've answered a few questions here... :)

What do they say when you tell your friends that you work making games?

Most think it is cool, some think it is dangerous to work with your hobby. "What if you stop enjoying it?" Silly friends.

1- Is this CK2?
2- Do you guys eat at KFC there?

I probably would if we had kfc, but I'd rather see house of pancakes open in Stockholm. Pleeeease?

Kirk is obviously cooler. Being cool is not Picards "thing". Who's the better captain? well that depends, is the federation at war? in which case Kirk otherwise Picard.

Favorite Star trek episode:

TOS: Enemy Within
TNG: Yesterdays Enterprise, Cause and Effect
DS9: What you leave behind
Voyager: Timeless, Drone
Enterprise: can't remember any particular episode that was noteworthy.

I SUPPORT THE ENTITY VOICE!

Having seen earlier in the thread that some of the staff like their metal, any Bathory fans on the team? You can't be from Stockholm, like Metal, and not like them :D

Also, a few more questions:
- if you had to permenantly leave Sweden, where would you move to?

- has there ever been any moments when you considered giving it all up and getting an easier and less stressful job?

- if you weren't doing your particular job at Paradox or another Game studio, what would you be doing?

- has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Not sure about Bathory. I'm more into Meshuggah in that case.

I'd move to Canada probably. It seem to function a lot like Sweden, and I like it here. :) Too bad it is as cold as Sweden though...

No. I think all jobs are stressful. If not, I would be bored.

Other kind of software development... (I hope that was not cheating)

Yes. No.

Will this thread be closed when the celebration ends?

I've decided that since the thread has been so successful and almost all questions have been relevant, civilized and plain funny we're going to make this a permanent addition to the OT forum.

We want to keep using the thread as a direct line of communication between you and us. We can't promise to answer every question, but we promise to read every post and answer as often as possible.

It's been a fun week for us, but before it ends: did YOU have fun during this 200k Celebration? :)

Yes! It's been a very stressful time with 2 big releases being birthed into the cruel harsh world, but the celebration has been nothing but joy. I only wish we'd had more time.

Their skyscraper is quite hard to scale... But once in a while you might spot Paradoxians out on the town..

Techically we're not at hötorget anymore.. Söder ftw.

Saw Johan at Strand (a nightclub) at few weeks ago.

oh? when how what? I tend to go there alot with some friends (and co-workers.)

Tsk, tsk, that would be sports. What have I said about sports? No, we play board games. :)

HEY! I went to the gym with some other paradoxians this week! twice even!

And also.. boardgames rules.
