Do you guys get annoyed with all the requests for CK2?

Yes! or not really, but it's really annoying like during the PIC week when did announce a bunch of fun stuff and some people were negative due to the news not being CK2

So Shams is a Scot, eh... is that some form of 'Seamus'?

Actually no. My father was researcher in Edinburgh so we lived there before moving here. They couldn't pronounce Shams properly, they called med Sha-mes first which then became James. In Sweden some people have a similar problem and call me khams. This is due to the fact that there are no swedish words spelled with "sh" instead they are spelled with "st" or "sk" and pronounced either "sh" or "kh". Funnily enough the "kh" sound hardly exists in the english language. "chanukka" is pronounced with a "kh" sound in the beginning. Is anybody still reading at this point? I should go home already...

Any of ye ever visit Ireland and what did you think?

No but I'd like to. It's a candidate for a weekend trip this fall.
Something I have always wondered, is the precise sales figures for Paradox games, the profit situations for Paradox Interactive each year and the sources of these profits.

You are on your way home late at night. You are almost home and your street is strangely deserted. Suddenly a bright light and the Millenium Falcon lands next to you and Han Solo appears. He asks you if you want to come and fly off to a Galaxy Far Far Away. There is no time to say goodbye to loved ones. This is your chance.

Do you leave?

Participated in a Round Robin on that topic some years ago: "Who let them in our galaxy?"

'course I go. Only I don't tell Han I'm an Imperial sympathizer :p

Any favorite historical figures? :)

have you guys ever considered a series that really flows through the time periods, e.g rome as the base pack and then expansion packs leading all the way to HOI3 with converters, allowing for thousands of years of gameplay.

id love that and especially if you included all the features until they were no longer relevant(family tree, general research/slider research e.t.c)

this way by the game's end the world would be completely different, and if there were as many provinces as say in HOI3 with the difficulty of capturing as in EU3 (probably a lil less) it would do well to simulate the difficulties of conquers and would give you a reasonable game for a long time, although im sure you guys can think of a better way of doing this

to summarise, have you ever considered creating the above? or maybe just including converters for existing maps over the timeperiod

Different questions then:

Does anybody in the company play Mount&Blade?

Is anybody trilled by this: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=469705 ?

Has any of you heard of "The Order of the Paradox" at Cybernations (it is the only good thing about Cybernations).

Regarding your previous question: sales data and figures are some of the most closely guarded secrets in the gaming industry. so don't expect an answer. if you want a more general answer about the financial state of Paradox: We're doing fine!

Funny you mention the order of the platypuss. We were just talking about it! We love it and endorse it wholeheartedly! We'd love to support you somehow. If someone just would pm a suggestion on how to do so to me....

The best way to support it is to join it of course!

I've got warband on my "have to play" list. But it's soo looooong. Besides clanning takes so much time. Spending too much time on one thing is against my rules.

Devoting a couple of hours a week on casual games for practise should be enough for you to be able to play decently well. Multiplayer in Mount&Blade can be very casual as there is always plenty of servers up, with varying amounts of players in every server. The multiplayer is fairly fast-paced so you can do plenty in a 10-minute round. Then occassionally turn up for the inevitable training sessions and clan games in the future!

My question seemed to get missed, so I'll post it again.

If you could get your hands on a license regarding any movie or book franchise, with a view to making grand strategy games, what franchise would you most like to get hold of (e.g. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.)?

Imagine, you could meet any person dead or alive.

Which one would you like to meet?

I had to think about this for 5 minutes and then I chose not to answer. I can't think of anyone directly.

I would have a few good answers if the question was "who would you visit at any time or place"

Lee Harvey Oswald November 23rd 1963 comes to mind.

I'll try again too:

1) looking back at when you began and now, how does it feel to be a globallly acclaimed developer and (more recently) publisher?

2) do you have any "core principle" that you try the most to respect? some sort of GAMEPLAY "standard" for any Paradox game (developed internally or not). I'm thinking something along the lines of "the player will always be able to do X in our games".

Perhaps we deliberately avoided the question? :) Who knows what we'll end up licensing next.

But speaking for myself, I'd love to have a go at Dan Simmons creations. Any of the series would do actually, but most likely Hyperion.

Ah yes ... begging. A long and honored tradition here on the PI forums.

1: I'm fairly new so I can't properly answer that. I'll ask fred or sus to do so. But I know they are very proud. For me it's more like we're poised to take on the world at this point. Paradox is going places.

2: Again, the internal team might have another philosophy, but with external titles there's no one governing principle that is that detailed as you describe. I mean we can't possibly have such practical tenet applied to a game like Mount & Blade Warband and Ship Sim Extremes, right?

But what do always try to do is to make sure the game excels in its' own field. It's important for games to stay on their own path and not try to do too much at once. A good example of a game gone awry in my opinion is Grand Theft Auto 4. It's the first GTA game which traveling around the world isn't fun anymore, in fact they acknowledge this by having the player teleport around in the world instead of driving there, which is the whole point of the GTA series - Driving!

So you'll probably see some of our games lack a mode or feature you'd expect. That could be because we wanted the game to focus on what already existed rather than branching out.
