One thing that is problematic of Paradox games is the how manuals and tutorials do not seem to have the same production standards as the rest of the game. Is this seen as a problem in-house and are there plans to either make better manuals, strategy guides or work on tutorials more, or is this seen as more of the domain of the forum community?

I think Renss is doing a great job (not that I read manuals but I did read EU3 strategy guide) usually. Now I'd be the first interested if we could get a collector edition for vicky2 as good as EU3 one ;)

In my opinion the quality of manuals has been improved already (PI isn't clearly neglecting this area)... But because even the best manual will become obsolete when important details of the game are changed by patches then the forum community will probably keep its indispensable role as a know-how provider also in the future. It seems to be inevitable.

1.) If you could hire one forumite today to join the team, who would it be?

2.) What are your favorite AARs?

3.) Have you ever considered a special "MP with Paradox" event/campaign?

4.) What employee role do you not have at Paradox that you sometimes wish you did?

5.) What are your favorite mods (large or small) for the games you've worked on?

6.) What game did you buy that didn't live up to the hype, that you would love to get to remake right?

7.) If you had a cattle prod and access to every user that files bug reports, how many criminal counts would you face? :)

3. No... Might be fun, but I'm pretty sure I'd loose v.s. some (a lot) of you!

4. I'd like to be a programmer, but I need to sharpen my programming skills a bit.

5. I did a house for Morrowind that was pretty neat. Mostly because I was not quite happy with some of the other house mods. I never released it to the modding community though.

6. Maybe Darwinia? It was really hyped a while, I did not quite see where that would come from, even if it was a good game.

7. None. Bug reports are good for us. :)

Ahh... Morrowind. Probably the greatest RPG I've ever played. As a matter of fact, I'd still be playing if I hadn't been spoiled by newer gaming technology. Sigh.

I guess my question is... What was your winter like? And comparing to that, what is winter usually like there in Sweden?

1) Already hired alot if those through the years.. like Doomdark, King, Besuchov etc..

4) I already got a full team of kickass people who make great games.

5) The original Aberration was such a great idea that I actually helped designing 2 countries for it.

7) I'd be on death row... In a country that would reinstitute the deathpenalty just for my crimes.

Long, dark and hard. Just like our men.

So that is how you got King :)
Btw. in some previous answers you gave requirements for job applications and one of them was to learn swedish before posting it. So this brings up interesting question. Did King knew swedish before, did he learn it to able to work with you or did he learned while working for you?

I disagree 100% with you on this point. Think both the manual and stra-guide are good. Altough they off course might be outdated by improvements made in the different patches.

Oops. By employee role, I meant like "tester", "crash test dummy", "masseuse", "nerf target"...

Aww. That's so sweet. Y'all love us. Y'all really do love us.

Why do PI games take so long to get to Australia?

What are the specs of the best computer you guys have?

What advice would you give for someone who is doing an IT course and thinking of programming as a career?

We have a thesis worker that is focused on how we can improve our tutorials. We are aware that they can be better.
I think the manuals are usually good though, what is the issue on those?

First, I think it has something to do with your strict laws on games maybe? The age rating is different and such. Not sure though. Answered the second one before in this thread.

If you want to be a programmer, look at what kind of programmer you want to be, what programming language does that field use most? Then learn that language as thoroughly as you can. More languages are good to know too, but make sure you know at least one really, really well. And as with most other things you want to be good at, practice!

My only problem with the manuals (at least in EU3) is that, good as they are on first release, they lose much of their 'reference' value as soon as a new expansion is out. It would be much nicer if a single document was kept up-to-date rather than the separate whatsnew docs being released on each expansion.
