"Current" is a bit arbitrary, but yes we've got a high pace right now, mainly due to the online titles. In a month or so two of the games in the upcoming games will move down a category.

We're definitely reaching an upper limit for how many titles we can handle without requiring some re-organisation. But we believe in "organic" growth. Our aim is to retain roughly the same output per year but instead increase the quality of each product.

We do this by working with experienced devs who enjoy a great level of freedom, meaning that we don't have to micromanage and meddle in their thing - namely, making games.

We just announced a bunch of online games, this might become a separate dept of paradox down the line - this is how we make more room for growth.

Svea Rike sequels aren't on the roadmap :) but feel free to build a prototype and show it to us.

If I go and visit Paradox HQ can I get everyones autograph?

Hmm, if we say yes I fear that we'd have to grant the same wish to many others. But we have fans by the office from time to time so it's not entirely impossible.

Require 1 alcoholic drink + 1 cookie per autograph. Problem solved. :)

Didn't realize Lead n Gold was Steam only. But since it is MP I guess that makes good sense and doesn't risk alienating fans.

If you look in my sig: past couple days, I've had a Survey Monkey survey about "What if Skyrim requires Steam?" running. The "Responses" link can show you the distribution of responses since the last time I went on SM and told it to Share Responses. Last I looked at it we were up to about 90 respondents, and the basic pattern had not changed.

Basically, a Steam exclusive Skyrim will cause about ~30% of prospective buyers to not buy it. Another ~20 or 30% say they will still buy it, but would prefer non-Steam options.

Obviously Skyrim is not a Paradox game, but I like to think that the response by fans to that game might be instructive about the costs and benefits of alienating segments of fans more generally.

We absolutely recognize that we're losing a portion of the sales if we only go steam. BUT I have to point out that polls and non-committal surveys don't mean didley s*** in reality.

Modern warfare 2 had one of the biggest petitions running against it before launch where players vowed never to buy the game unless it had dedicated servers. These petition lists were signed with actual steam accounts, so come release day more than half of the bunch were happily playing MW2, regardless of dedicated servers. And everyone could see so for themselves.

So yeah, fan opinions are important, but if your friends, reviewers and your grandma starts talking about how freaking great the game is I'm fairly sure most people will be pragmatic enough to stater playing.

Petitions are about making your voice heard. Having it the way of enjoying a good game, or even worse, not supporting the developers so they can make more games is IMHO not smart.

I'd have to say, I'm actually pretty happy with Steam, and I wish I could put more games on it, achievements are fun, I can chat to my friends on it, and all my games are in one place, I also don't have to keep switching CDs about. I was actually a bit disappointed that the GOTY Fallout 3 that I bought from Amazon didn't require Steam.

Well, i personnally don't intend to give one cent to Steam. If i can still buy my games from Gamersgate and then register it on steam to play... like i did for Lead and Gold, i'm ok with it. Will that still be the case in the future ?

Isn't going all Steam is an alternate way of having a DRM without officially having one ? Let us be clear, i strongly support companies wanting to protect their games from piracy obviously... i just wish to fully understand.

Steam definitely functions as DRM. However, most not-Steam-only games keep their own DRM in addition. That's just DRM overkill.

Also, PI made me less tolerant of other company's DRM. I guess I've just been spoiled.

In the case of Lead & gold, what's the difference? you're still playing the game on steam? and they get a cut from GG.

The reason why we go only steam with a title (like with LNG) is never because of Steams "DRM", but because the game tech was built from the ground up on steam tech. When we sign new titles we always want games to at least have the possibility to be non-steam as well.

Let's not get into a whole Steam/drm discussion here (happy to do it elsewhere) but rest assured that: Paradox always strives to have a non-steam version when possible. It's just common sense for us to do so.

why the dead platypus?

It's not dead... and the platypus, being a mammal that lay eggs and has a duck-thingie (beak ?), is a Paradox in itself... at least, that's how i see it.

Fair enough. I personnally can accept your explanation... especially given what comes next...

That's jst what i hoped to hear. What i want most of all is have a choice.

Yep! Same here :) Even if surveys or petitions might not predict actual sales, providing more choices is surely the safest way to satisfy the most customers.

Pssst

You already have. ;)

I think he meant a game that can only be bought on Steam... Lead and Gold is availlable at least on Gamersgate (even if you indeed need Steam to play it) ;)
