From what I've read over here and in Huzsic's FAQ, when you assault, you roll a d10. From your roll is subtracted the level of the fortress. So, if you are assaulting a level 2 fortress, your maximum roll is 8. OK. But that doesn't take into account the respective Siege Strengths, but I've heard that you shouldn't assault before there is a breach. In what way does a breach affect the outcome?
The reason I ask is that I usually have a set way of conducting war. I only use 45K armies (25K Infantry, 15K Cavalry, 50 Artillery). So obviously these armies are too large to conduct long sieges without suffering horrendous attrition. So I assault as soon as I enter the province, until morale goes down to "Weak". Then I wait for morale to reach full strength, then assault again. So on until it falls. From what I've read I'm not doing it right. Would I be better off sending in a force that is just equal to the supply limit and just sieging?
I'd appreciate all info on how this works and what is the best way to conduct offensive warfare.
