I meant using the CK2 mechanics as a basis for diplomacy, with the interaction between characters allowing for interaction between foreign ministers, for instance?

Just because a game is made for a certain period, I would presume it can be changed to suit any other period if needed?

not really... I mean some of it may be incorporated but most of it not, but this hint does not really say it has to have CK2 elements so WW1 is still possible but more unlikely than other options

Ok, well let's hope that tomorrow's clue actually means something and allows us to get nearer to whatever this new game is.

I have to go, Cheers.

Guys, after spending a month is the airducts and closets (by the way Paradox, there is a xenomorph in the airducts) and figuring out the hints, I can confirm that Project Augustus is:
Johan's Witness (formerly Paradox's Witness): A game where you spread the religion of Johan's Witness throughout the world while you are competing against the Church of CA and the incestuous Firaxis faith
Edit: Do I get a prize @Johan ?

Shame be thy prize. Shame for the horror which thou hast wrought.

Victoria 2 covers WWI sufficiently. The fact that CKII and HOI were mentioned indicates personal politics and war. Sounds Rome like to me.

......Doomdark is still over CK2, but he passed the reigns of lead dev to Groogy some time ago

huh ? I thought Birken it is (as of: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/a-quick-introduction.870305)

or is lead dev and project lead two different positions at PDS ?
If so, very creative...and confusing. Everybody's leading somehow i guess.

Doomdark keeps the vision over CK2 as far as i understood. Meaning, he drinks coffee with them once in a while and keeps Groogys "will to power" in check.....

Doomdark eh? Does that mean that someone else is taking over Ck2? Or are you discontinuing further content for Ck2?
darn it... and here I thought Doomdark would have called me :(

Yeah it does sound like Doom is off of CK2 completely now

Doomdark is still lead design, but the lead dev is Birken.

Do we finally get to see Groogy in the maid uniform?

World War One fits the clues very well.

Discuss.

Bringing out a game about WWI at roughly the same moment as a game about WWII doesn't sound like a good business strategy at all, they would basically be competing with each other.

The clues seem to fit both China and the Ancient world pretty well. Perhaps China a tiny bit better but for a major new IP I can't imagine paradox focussing on a relative small part of the world that is relative unknown by a large part of their fanbase. Considering the DLC strategy of CKII I think Paradox is more moving their games toward encompassing the whole world (at least the parts where anything more then hunting/gathering was happening) and not focus on smaller areas.

Best case scenario would be an ancient empires game encompassing the whole eurasia and northern africa. We would get greeks vs Persians, Alexanders in India, steppe hordes, Three kingdom period, Han empire and warring state periods in China, Rome and it's punic wars in the west, etc.

The problem with making a Eurasia it would have to have the map about 7 times maybe 10 times bigger than what Paradox GSG's have had in the past.

For an ancient times game Greece alone would require to have about an extra 10 provinces to have all the historically significant City States/Kingdoms playable.

For someone really, really interested in ancient Greece you're absolutely right. I'm however, decently satisfied with having a rough aproximation of the real situation in ancient Greece and that should be achievable I think.

Aside from that, I think your point not only stands for Greece but would hold true for a large part of the world. Gaul could also be divided into countless of minor tribes with shifting alliances, wars, etc. The big difference is that for Greece it's better documented but I'm not sure that should mean we should be OK with Celts being portraited simplified with much less tribes and regions and for Greece being outraged about it.

No matter how you look at it we will need a simplification to portrait the real world into a game.

You wouldn't need entire provinces for every city state though, if you use CK-like mechanics they could be represented as holdings which would allow several to fit in the same province.

Agreed, I'm just sick of Greece being Laconia, Attica, Central or Peloponnesia, Attica, Central.

Will no one think of Corinth, Argos, Thebes etc. Etc.

But the CK2 mechanic would not work politically for Greece. With Sparta and Argos animosity for example, although it would work wonders for the colonial side for places like Sicily, southern Italy/Gaul, and Asia Minor

I do understand it's rather annoying for enthusiasts of ancient Greece.

Perhaps the CK2 mechanic could work if we get a deep and interesting system to portrait animosity warfare and politics in general between holds in one province. It's not perfect but with good dynamics it could be a solution.
