unHoly unRoman unEmpire? :D
I did not dig into the Rurikids, but the Rurikid Count was working for a Rurikid Grand Prince as top liege. Another realm has a Rurikid King.

Wait for our visit, the Empire part is real.

@diskoerekto, thank you for replying.

Interesting to see who is behind all these murders.
@JSB217118, thank you for commenting. As Anne Howe says I am in 'Tony Stark' mode, so I can not use the console. We will have to wait for Sherlock Holmes or maybe blame the Rurikid agents. Queen Adela was excommunicated.

Great episode.
House Rurikid, 252 living members (is Rurikid the Russian word for rabbit?), was founded by Jarl Rurik of Novgorod born 1 January 830.
Well, they’ve had 400 years I guess - but it’s a huge dynasty!
or maybe blame the Rurikid agents
Why not? If not guilty of that, they’ve got to be guilty of something, so stitch them up!

What did you start with two, Rurik and bastard son (Helgi?)? The dynasty tree does not assign any offspring to Helgi. Compare this result to the Karlings. For over eight years, Gunhild (Danish, married to Iziaslav Rurikid) was the heir to the English throne.

So the Rurikids are breeding a lot.

England and Aquitaine might unite soon. A few well-timed assassinations?

Rurikid = Rabbit as far as breeding.

At 1242, the rebellion was ahead of King Fulk and I think whichever beat King William probably cancelled the other's war. Results from England's 1225 wars: Breizh won Mortain and England kept Dunois. 1242 Kingdom of France was a Hot Mess!

SPOILER Have played to 1250. Quick glance have not done inventory of new top five. Kingdom of Aquitaine looks to have dissolved. Foix/Aragon got Toulouse. England got zilch and is a HOT MESS!!!

Everyone, thank you for reading. We are over the 2K view mark.

1225 From Middlesex to Breisgau (stop 5) with our host Magistros Visar Progonovic

I am sorry for the early start, but Captain @Nikolai says we must sail at dawn to catch the tide. We are sailing down the Thames and across the Channel in his authentic half-sized replica Viking Longship. Captain @diskoerekto and his 1st Imperial Ranger Company is awaiting our arrival in the Lowlands to guide us to the Empire's Black Forest capital, Breisgau. Forested Breisgau is the only non waterfront plains capital in the top five. The Holy Roman Empire is the only top five country without a permanent capital as it moves with each Emperor's election. The Holy Roman Empire continues to be #1 as it grows from 495 to 587 holdings. A timeline of the Emperorship for the last quarter century:

15 February 1152 30yo Friedrich von Hohenstaufen is elected Emperor.
10 September 1202 80yo Kaiser Friedrich dies in his sleep after ruling 50 years. 56yo Walram von Nassau is elected Emperor.
19 February 1206 60yo Kaiser Walram dies in his sleep after ruling 3 years. 52yo Leonardo Theoderisian is elected Emperor.
15 June 1214 60yo Kaiser Leonardo dies in his sleep after ruling 7 years. 40yo Ludwig von Wittlesbach is elected Emperor.
5 June 1219 45yo Kaiser Ludwig dies mysteriously after almost ruling 5 years. 43yo Ulrich von Sponheim is elected Emperor.
23 April 1222 46yo Kaiser Ulrich dies after a long illness after almost ruling 3 years. 24yo Bethold von Zähringen is elected Emperor.
26yo German Catholic Kaiser Berthold is a Charismatic Negotiator (14-3-7-2-10), who freely gives his time and money to worthy causes. Besides the empire, he is personally leading two duchies and two counties with his advisors urging him to add three more demenses. Three kings, thirty-one dukes, four counts and four barons are bending a knee to the Emperor.

The only current military action for the Kaiser and his thirty thousand man army is aiding King Gerard of Aragon in defending the Duchy of Mallorca from Sultan Abu Ya'qub of Maghreb's 'so called' Holy War. Anne Howe and her expert team give King Gerard a fifty-two point advantage. Cynics claim that Kaiser Berthold is trying to project a more noble image of the Empire after the Empire has accumulated forty-six 'bad boy' points. Muslims, Pagans and Christians have formed 'Death to the Empire' pacts.

We will travel home to Dyrrachion to wrap up our time in 1225.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Our next three updates are: 1) 1225 wrap up 2) 1250 introduction, top 5 religion, short checks on the two who fell out of the top 5 3) 1250 visit to #5.

Volunteers wanted: Rather than my assigning roles, I would like volunteers for the next six jobs.

1) Spokesman for the time travelers to say bye to Count Gjin and the family.
2) Someone to pilot the 'wayback machine' to the 21st century.
3) Spokesman for 1250 return to Dyrrachion.
4) Captain of ship to transport group from Dyrrachion to #5 realm. You can name your ship but it flies either a Dyrrachion or a Byzantine flag.
5) Leader of sailor fighters. You can choose your rank (below captain).
6) Leader of a group going behind enemy lines. You can choose your title.
I will do the writing, but I would like volunteers to take one of the six roles.
CONTEST: We have two newcomers and two dropouts from the top five. Name these four realms. One guess for either newcomer or dropout per message.

PRIZE: I will research an added realm, de jure kingdom, dynasty or religion of your choice for each correct guess. Loyal Readers make me do four added researches.

Contest ends for the dropouts when I post the 1250 introduction. The two newcomers go until they are revealed during the top five countdown. I do not know if I can run a contest, but if not I will beg for forgiveness.

The Empire is even blobbier - what a huge beast. Looks like they coul split in two and both be in the top five.
6) Leader of a group going behind enemy lines. You can choose your title.
The Silver Ghost desires a jaunt behind the lines.

I’ve lost track of who (else) the top five are and who might be pushing to enter, o_O so will leave the guessing to others.:)

I'll captain the ship flying a Byzantine flag. The name of the ship shall be "purple steward" :D

I'm guessing some Muslim realms will switch places, but I cannot put my finger on it

Splitting in two and both top five is underselling the HRE. The HRE is larger than #2, #3 and #4 combined. An even split leaves them #1 and #2. A three way split could leave them #2, #3 and #4 behind England. I was shocked by the 92 holding gain. Byz in #5 only has 132.

The Silver Ghost will do some smuggling in our visit to #5 (three updates from now).

The current top five is HRE, England, Rajasthan, Iraq and Byz. So please take a guess.

Thank you for taking a guess.

Thank you for commenting. I am more worried about internal than external if the HRE remains Catholic. One of the top five changed religions between 1225 and 1250 due to secret societies. Coalitions are designed more to slow your expansion than break up a blob. The vassal swarm will probably fuel expansion as vassals would not have the emperor's 'bad boy' points but would have the emperor protecting their back. HRE had 487 in 1204 start and 540 in 1220 start as opposed to 1187 start's 587 by 1225.

Do you mind being #1, the spokesman saying bye to the Progonovics? You went with Visar to 1242 in our special Plantagenet episode (post #100).

Would you like to take a guess?

Thank you for replying.

After 50 years of Kaiser Friedrich, the next four combined for less than 20. Kaiser Berthold is only 26 so he could be a long term answer.

One of the two dropouts is Muslim (Rajasthan or Iraq). One of the two newcomers is Muslim. This is a list of the two 1225 dropouts and 1250 top five realms from my 1204 and 1220 starts that are not currently top five:

Maghreb
Syria
Castille
France
Punjab
Mongols
The two newcomers are in the above list. Be specific in your guess if you want bonus research.

The Purple Steward will sail at the tail end of the 1250 introduction (two from now).

Dyrrachion July 1225 Our time traveling group is preparing their return to the 21st century. (Future happenings of the Progonovic family revealed in the Plantagenet supplement are only known to Visar Progonovic and @HistoryDude.)

46yo Count Gjin: Muzaka, did you enjoy your time with Uncle Visar and the time travelers.
12yo Muzaka: It was the greatest. Flying carpets, elephant rides, fast boats, Vikings. Captain @diskoerekto and his rangers defeated bandits. Momma is so fat, did you and Teuta get anything to eat?
Gjin: Momma is not fat, she is carrying your little brother or sister. I hope that you learned much for you will probably greet the time travelers in 1250.
Muzaka: I want a brother, look at Teuta.

2yo Teuta has cornered @Fool Esquire and his collection of "Kojak Memories". While she enjoys the tigers and elephants, she screams "Mine" at every photo of England.

@HistoryDude: You look troubled my friend.
27yo Visar: Future knowledge is a heavy burden. You tell me, unintended consequences and butterfly effects mean slight changes could lead to far worse outcomes. I will spend more time with my brothers and make Zamyr, my deputy. My wife will spend even more time with her sister, Countess Agalina.

A brief recap of the 1225 top five:

587 (up 92 from 1200 still #1) Holy Roman Empire led by 26yo Kaiser Berthold for almost 3 years.
238 (down 16 still #2) Kingdom of England and Ireland led by 30yo Queen Adela for almost 5 years.
186 (newcomer) Empire of Rajasthan led by 58yo Shahanshah Säm for almost 35 years.
150 (newcomer) Sultanate of Iraq and Persia led by 49yo Caliph Al-Zahir for over 19 years.
132 (up 2 still #5) Byzantine Empire led by 28yo Basileus Megistos for almost 3 years.
The top stats by the rulers are:

14 Diplomacy of Basileus Megistos and Kaiser Berthold.
8 Martial of Basileus Megistos.
7 Stewardship of Kaiser Berthold.
4 Intrigue of Caliph Al-Zahir.
15 Learning of Caliph Al-Zahir.
36 Total for Kaiser Berthold.
Three rulers have a stat greater than Queen Adela's total of 12.
@Bullfilter: Ensign @Austregisel, set the 'WayBack Machine' for April 2019 Wuhan. We will use the knowledge of the 'Anytime Anywhere wRiters' (Someone, PLEASE, come up with a better name for our group of time travelers.) to prevent the pandemic.
@HistoryDude: No, Ensign, April 2021 Paradox home base. A great mind recently reminded me, that altering the time space continuum, can cause greater problems than the ones that you are trying to prevent.
Ensign @Austregisel: POLAND INTO TIME!!!

'Anytime Anywhere wRiters', we will next gather on 2 (the 1st is a holiday and many are hungover) January 1250 in the Duchy of Dyrrachion. Which Progonovics will be there to greet them? We will discuss the top five religions and the two 'dropouts'. I will accept guesses on the two dropouts until that time.

@Austregisel started "Polish Chronicles" this week. Anyone wishing to visit Slavs, can quickly catch up.

Really, the best intrigue among any of them is 4? It’s a wonder any of them are still alive! ;)

Avon Calling? Time RangAARs? Anachronistic Avon Rangers? o_O

These are my guesses to drop out. Perhaps both will come to the end of their long reigns and cause breakups, and ‘last in, first out’ principle. Not the faintest idea who could replace them. And Byzantium always finds a way to stay in, even in the middle of civil wars.

Thank you for commenting. The total intrigue for the five is 9! Yes, Queen Adela is NOT the sharpest BUTTERKNIFE in the drawer. Rajasthan stays and probably will end 1450 as #2. Iraq/Persia is out. You get a free research request.

Anyone wanting a guess, one of the three Christians fell out and we need to ID the two 1250 newcomers.

For me, whoever controls Persia-Iraq, controls the East, I have no doubt that the Caliph Al-Zahir dynasty could do much more if it did not fall before because of its intrigue.
