I'm really glad to see another Wargame derivative coming along. Eugen always makes quality games and Paradox publishing is a really interesting development.

But does the world need yet another WW2 Normandy game?

Surely NW Europe 44-45, the Eastern Front, Africa, Italy are all worthwhile and interesting possibilities but Normandy has been done to death.

It's too late now, but I sincerely hope developers recognise that there is a World War II beyond Normandy.

That said, I'm bloody glad we'll have more options than just another exercise in 101st Band of Brother tripe. The British did a good deal of heavy lifting!

We need more games about the Canadians. Everyone raves about Omaha beach and the Somme, but from Vimy Ridge to Juno Beach the Canadians have pulled their weight consistently.

That said...

Rather than selecting a nation, you pick from a number of Allied and Axis divisions that fought in Northern France near the close of the war (though the actual beach landings won’t be included), each with a unique unit roster and play style. Among the names dropped were the US 101st Airborne and the German 12th SS

My guess: Germany, US, UK, Canada, France, Poland
edit: actually pcgamer article already confirms that, but they give Scotland separate mention too.

This game features a bunch of countries, the Canadians were in Wargame too. I was more thinking an FPS or small scale RTS where a Canadian or a Canadian unit is the primary protagonist, instead of the usual 2nd Ranger or 101st Airborne, with a later British DLC. The only one I can think of is Cod 3?

A game about the Poles, Moroccans and Indians at Monte Cassino would be sweet actually...Or just following Polish II Corps.

Oh stop complaining. One month after release and we'll have Waltzing Matlida's in the desert and Guderian leading a Panzer Corps across Russia.

The bit which worries me is that the earlier Eugen's Wargame series was very unfriendly to mods. The engine would have been perfect for doing all sorts of dynamic historical cold war campaigns, but that was just not possible, and we got stuck with the released campaigns only.

If the new game is a mod friendly as promised, then we may see player-made to more interesting parts of WW2. But I still find the choice of Normandy to be bizarre.

Normandy makes perfect sense from business standpoint. Famous battle, sufficiently late war to allow inclusion lots of famous equipment, all most important western allies present on divisional level, terrain that is probably well suited for gameplay they are aiming for etc.

And once it's done, Bagration DLC already has nearly 50% of the models ready. This is the route Battlefront used with Combat Mission.

Whats the point of adding Polish? Outside of our warships we had no special units, not even our own variants, in 1944 (in western front at last). It's basicly a skinpack for brits/canadians.

Normandy is awesome. Especially if you look at similar games like Close Combat. Especially Caen etc was nice. Now with a good engine, good graphics and good handling. Why not?

The invasion of poland or the invasion of western europe in 1940 would have been very nice and fresh thematics.

With the size of the map, pacific theater would also have been interesting.

But well... normandy +ww2 =sure value.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As game is gonna be division vs division they are bound to be somehow balanced against each other (or played for "flavour"). Tough to tell how exactly without any gameplay video. 1 Dywizja Pancerna seems like an obvious choice which means tanks. 5 Kresowa Dywizja Piechoty is Italy and 1 Dywizja Piechoty im. Tadeusza Kościuszki is east so unlikely.
