Baptism by Fire: Sons of Poland

This is the thread for Baptism by Fire: Sons of Poland, a game in which we are all playing a duchy in Poland, but, if more people would like to play, they can play other duchies in the area (probably Brandenburg or Polotsk or Bohemia). The emphasis of this game is on heavy RPing.

Time: 0500 or 0600 GMT Sundays

Rules:

Difficulty-Very Hard
AI Aggressiveness-Furious
Cannot raise troops from a province until one year after capture (exploit)
No killing off a player nation's ruler (to prevent massive regicide)
No killing off ALL potential heirs within one's dynasty (doesn't mean you can't kill off the good ones :D )
Inheriting titles by Semisalic Primogeniture law is allowed, but you must insure that the character has an heir with a title to fall back on
Crusades will be edited to an end when the Papal Controller says so
No marrying Agnes D'Aquitaine
1 crusade/5 years

Players

Duchy of Krakow-Sterkarm
Duchy of Mazovia-Jarkko Suvinen
Duchy of Silesia-Patrucio
Duchy of Wielkopolska-Casluerj

I'm in if you can wait till Sunday the 23rd

Oh yeah, I'd like to play Apulia.

39 minutes, gentlemen...

Ardryn, come back!

Are you guys playing this weekend?

I'd like to join... if there's enough space for me... and if I can get my internet connection to work consistently... and if I can get my game to not crash after 20 days all the time... and if I get most of my thesis done... doesn't look good, does it?

I would like to try to play, if that is possible and the game hasn't started already. If everyone is playing Kings, I'd ask to play Germany, I guess, though I don't really care.

5 am GMT Sunday would be midnight saturday for we Yankees on East Coast US time, right?

Well, Specterx is playing King of Germany, and the game is still waiting to start...

OK. How about Hungary, then, if I'm allowed to join up?

You're certainly allowed, welcome, Hungary is probably not taken, as Petrarca is willing to switch to Bohemia.

Well, I'm happy to join up (I've never MP'd any Paradox game before), and I'm quite content to play any realm, really.

So, I guess put me down for Hungary unless someone else is wanting to play it, in which case I'd be happy to just pick from a list of realms you would like to see played. It seems to me that getting all the major realms covered by PCs is a definitely good idea, to make sure that the AI doesn't cause those realms to disentegrate...

Ok, we're gonna try to start this Sunday 0500 GMT (waited for Duuk).

How, exactly. will this work. Will we use the Valkyrie.net thingy to gather, or will we all connect to someone's computer.

Also, since I've never used the MP mode before, this seems as good a time as any to ask whether there is a chat function in the game, or whether it is customary to keep open some form of IM communication to facilitate communication between players.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to the game.

Ok, we don't have enough interest... for now, I am shutting down this game... :( sorry

Well, maybe you (or someone else... maybe me) could run a smaller game. One that only goes for three or four people. For example: Each person playing one of the Iberian Kings on the 1066 senario. That would mean you would only want three (or four, if someone wanted to play Navarre) players. That would give you a small focus, give people grounds upon which to cooperate, and would also set the stage for future competition.

Just an idea...

Well, I am willing to do that :) Now the problems remaining are:
1) When to play?
2) Who else is interested?

If there is interest for a test-game, then I am available today (Monday) from about 20 CET, tomorrow (Tuesday) from around 19 CET, Wednesday from around 20 CET, and on Thursday from around 21 CET. Other days are not possible for me this week.

Pressing TAB opens up the chat function.

You should turn off all possible programs running in the background, at least in EU2 MP the crash-rate is much lower when people turn off everything else but the game itself. So turn off all IM programs, Windows automatic upgrader and all other scheduled tasks for Windows (they all are a dead sure way to acquire a crash), anti-virus programs, firewall-programs (altough I don't suggest anybody on broadband should be without a firewall, but the software firewalls seems to cause problems) etc.

With the massive experience of four hours LAN MP in CK I do believe most things in my "What you need to know to play EU2 MP?" also applies to CK :)

I did do a test with Belisarius, Specterx, and Ardryn a while back. However, if we do it, we could just have Poland, with one of us the king and the rest of us vassals, or all of us vassals. As for time, I can't really be sure of making it at all from Monday-Thursday, just about every week. That's why I only play EU2 MP from Friday-Sunday.

On the average I'm working every third weekend, this coming weekend does not therefore suit me. But after that I should *basically* be free on weekends until July. My summer vacation begins on 12th of June, but coincidently <cough, cough> the European championships in football starts on the same day... And coincidently my vacation ends on 4th of July, which happens to also be the date for the finals... However, I do not intend to be glued to the telly *all* the time :D

Well, since I'm on the left side of the pond, I'll probably be staying up late regardless of when we play. That being the case, one day is just as good as another for me.

I like the Iberian Kings idea, but Poland would be fine as well. I think we should all have to be vassals to the King at the beginning if we go the Polish way, though. That would give us both grounds for cooperation (we're all Poles here) and grounds for competition (we all want to be King, don't we?) One of the big advantages for a Polish campaign (in my mind) would be that we get to look forward to the Molgols (in theory) at some point.

And as for sports, I'm certainly understanding. As I am in the process of being glued to the TV every other day right now for the NBA playoffs here in the US (GO PACERS!!!), I would certainly be sympathetic to working around your need to catch your fotball teams.

Sounds good to me :)

Well, I just love football (or Soccer as it is called over there), the Team Finland is too crappy to make it to any of the major tournaments :eek:o

0500 GMT (the time some people seem to have tried at some point) would mean 0800 local time (I'm living in GMT+2 and it is now DST so +1 more). Evenings would suit me better, but I don't know how you people in America could play afternoon games?

Yes, I'd much prefer a time like 0500 GMT or something like that, since it's quite late at night, I don't have to worry about much getting in the way. I'd be fine with us all being vassals of the Polish king, but I think perhaps we should change Poland to elective law? Also, he only has 4 vassals: Silesia, Wielkopolska, Krakow, and Mazovia, but I suppose that would be ok.
