Why don't you buy games on GOG if you are worried about not "owning" something.
Please you show us these 10k words. I'm sure it's a fascinating read.
Please dont. If Steam lets you download game installers then those games would also be owned by the customer but really, with any media, we always only ever buy a license, with digital its just worse because it can get taken away if its online. You need permissions to show movies and shows publicly and i think similar would go for games.

For once I'm of the same opinion as SarahGabriella

Once the game is done I will but...
I'm starting to believe that Bloodlines 2 releases on the same day as Half Life 3, Winds of Winter, Elder Scrolls VI and the new Blade movie.

I think the probability of Half Life 3 gets released is higher than that you consulted a private lawyer about a pre-order game and already written 10k words on a steam review for a game you don't even think is gonna come out..

If you say so...

So... Small Update:
I have currently a ticket open regarding Steams newest changes to their rules regarding 'season passes' as Blood Moon Edition has one build in for all the goodies and DLCs promissed.

Changes one can find here:

Good for you! I'm sure Gaben himself will stop what he's doing to check what you're complaining about.

I admittedly didn't realise Paradox were really that involved with the product - I thought Hardsuit Labs had made the pitch for Bloodlines 2 and when it was deemed to not be 'up to snuff', they decided to go with the Chinese Room
The publisher is often somewhat involved. Some publisher more than others. Famously, Spec Ops: The Line was almost ruined by its publisher who wanted to turn it into another CoD even tho the game satirizes games like that. I think Paradox is usually quite alright tho.

Sell World of Darkness to Larian they could make a sweet Divinity clone and license out a 1st/3rd person game to someone else.
I dont think that is what they meaned ...

They are going to keep the IP nicely on a shelf, where quite litterally noone can touch it without their permition ... and will charge for that touch.
That is how IP owning works.
And let me remind you that when EA payed for a decade exclusivity to produce Star Wars games, they did that just so nobody can make any ... they didnt either ... so this thing is not even allways logical.

In other words, it would be quite realistic to expect World of Darkness die out, and be replaced by something like Vampyr.

Paradox should sell the license. They haven't done anything good with it and it's likely going to have been something of an albatross for them.

Sell it to someone who actually wants it for the the love of the material and not as an opportunity to make a quick buck.

Paradox should sell the license.
Define "should" ...
From business perspective (aka. the only one that actually matters to them ... and dont get me wrong here, there is nothing wrong about that, paradox is a company, wich was created to make money ... nothing wrong about that, its just how it it) they most certainly should not.

Owning a license dont cost you anything ... sure, it also dont make you anything, unless someone is interested in ... how to put it, "rent"(?) it for their project ... but as long as there is a chance that someone would, its smarter to keep it.

And right now, if you follow certain channels there surprisingly is some interest in paying Paradox for using this IP ...

My gues is that if Paradox will ever even think about selling this ... and that alone is a big if ... it woulndt be sooner than in, dunno, lets say a decade. :(

Larian Studios wants to make their own games now, not licensed stuff that they need to abide by certain rules with.
I dont really think WoD is Larian cup of tea, that would imho fit to CDPR much better ...

But if they would buy it, there are no rules to abide. ;)

Regardless of WoD, Paradox needs much changes and internal reform to how it operates. It has need it for years already.

But so far there is no hint of improvement. Look at EU V. It is their flagship IP yet the new game appears as broken optimization size as Vic 3 and CS 2 were.

As for bloodlines itself, it is clear Paradox has not done a good job as a publisher (like all of its publishing project of the past few years). Bloodlines 2 is an over-ambitious and under-funded project.

I dont think Larian would be a great fit for an hypothetical bloodlines 3 but the studio offers one lesson Paradox has not applied so far : the need to start small and iterate a formula. It is obviously too ambitious to ask a small unexperimented studio to build a AAA or even AA game in the WoD IP universe. It should be done step by step. Others recently successful studio like CDPR or Saber walked the same path : first relatively small projects and then go bigger and bigger.

That would require a strong and sustained support by the publisher.

So no, it does not require nothing from Paradox to do something with the IP.

As for Paradox selling the WoD IP. I dont know. On the first hand it does seem unlikely. On the other hand the studio seems on path to continue its path downhill. It so far their mindset has been to blame it on over extension and trying to reach outside of grand strategy titles. Imo the problems are elsewhere but it might be convenient for the higher ups to sell non grand strategy games IPs like WoD to maintain the bubble a little longer.

under-funded project.
Do you have some information about fundings?
Can you share it?

I would be honestly interested in finding how much Paradox poured to the sink ...

It is obviously too ambitious to ask a small unexperimented studio to build a AAA or even AA game in the WoD IP universe.
Is it tho?

I mean ... it may sound crazy, but when Larian started working on BG-3 ... they had 50 employees ...
And they had NO FUNDING from WotC as they grew ... it was all done by themselves.

Sure, i admit that such sucess is a bit like catching a lightning in a bottle, and is most certainly not guaranteed to repeat ...
My point is it may not be as "obvious" as it may seem. ;)

might be convenient for the higher ups to sell non grand strategy games IPs like WoD to maintain the bubble a little longer.
Even if, that would be only half of the sucess ... i would even go so far to say its the easier part.

Personaly i see problem in searching for someone who would be willing to pay for WoD right now ...
I mean, come on, lets be honest, that IP have no "grand sucess" to back its cost for at least last decade, maybe even few decades ... and while there are some companies that collect IPs like pokemons just to have them (looking at you EA) that would be no better. :-/

Unless Paradox is going to hire former Troika developers they can stop pretending this series is an actual continuation of the series. We are way past that point.

Could you elaborate?

I mean ...
Lets be fair, it was never supposed to be "continuation" in the first place ... different time, different place, different characters (at least mostly) ...
It was allways just another story in different place, in the same universe ... (using different rules under new leadership tho)
I believe the therm is more like spinoff than sequel.

But how exactly would hiring original crew help?
Just bcs you invented something, it dont mean you are the only person in the world capable of continuing the thing ...
I mean ... prometheus was done by Ridley Scott ... and yet it felt nothing like Alien. o_O

Might also remember that George Lucas was, uneven, with the Star Wars episodes that he made.
