If Mussolini had lost in Africa by 1941 and the Brits had landed in Italy, then I think he could very possibly have been removed from power. Did you *only * take Sicily?

Code:
		# South Italy invaded
		NOT = {
			AND = {
				control = { province = 908 data = ITA } #Roma not controlled by Italy
				control = { province = 893 data = ITA } #Taranto not controlled by Italy
				control = { province = 898 data = ITA } #Siracusa not controlled by Italy
				control = { province = 897 data = ITA } #Messina not controlled by Italy
				control = { province = 903 data = ITA } #Cosenza not controlled by Italy
				control = { province = 901 data = ITA } #Napoli not controlled by Italy
				}
			}

Perhaps there should be a random trigger as well to make it a bit less predictable.

I took ONE province, Siracusa. Of course, I'd take Ethiopia and Libya as well, so Mussolini's popularity had to be at an all-time low. Still, Jan 1941 IS early.

However, the chain of events doesn't "feel" right.

I take Africa.
Italy leaves Sicily empty.
I invade.
They drop out of the war.

UK taking Africa should be considered normal. UK invading an empty Sicily should also be considered normal. If two normal events lead to Italy leaving the Axis in 1941, I feel there's something wrong. Keeping a bigger garrison in Sicily would break the chain.

I call these events "normal" instead of "abnormal". I don't mean to imply historical inevitability.

I have
Dec 1 1940. Before the Fall of France, before I take Ethiopia. I've just replayed it and sure enough, after Ethiopia falls Italy abandons Syracusa.
Jan 6 1941. After I've taken Syracusa, before Mussolini gets replaced (happens when you load the game)
Jan 20 1941. After the end of Italy.

If you add Napels to the requirements and maybe a random factor, this would make the event "feel" more realistic.

But on the other hand, it would really be a big influence in WW II. Perhaps a decisive one. The German AI won't see it coming, and with most of his troops on the Russian front the surrender of Italy might cause a collapse in the West.

In the game that caused my initial comment, I have reloaded the save before the event. I've played a year, and launched the invasion of Sicily in Jan 1942. But this time I'm (more or less) ready for it, able to follow up with 40+ divisions.
Germany seems to be taken off guard as my troops move north. If I can take all of Italy I will have opened most of Europe for attacks, and will not need a cross-Channel invasion.

the situation is really complex, but i think that Germany will react when a front is created with you (when you invade Italy)... i hope it is not too late for them when that happens.... :D
Maybe we can add that you have lost the South Part of Italy, 2 or 3 provinces, to avoid quick exploits. ;)

German AI has reacted quite adequately, although a little slow. I managed to overrun Italy completely, but am now facing about 70 German divisions in former Austria. These are joined by the Luftwaffe's entire tactical bombing force, so my stay in Italy may not be as long and prosperous as I had hoped.

But the French beaches are all but empty, so maybe there's still some great strategic prize to be won.
Stalin is no doubt grinning from ear to ear.

yep, too much fronts for Germany, they will surelly colapse... but, that's good news.. :D

Adding Naples seems good idea and only from historical point of view. Italy is simply much weaker enemy than GER and a bit prolonged US-ITA campaign gives the AI controlled USA chance to send there some more troops.
Right now Yankees usualy land one division, Italy falls... then German strat_redeploy 20 divs from the East Front and send G.I.'s back to the sea. So much for Second Front in Italy.

ok, i will rework that. :D

Italy.

I'm reading through this and I get the impression that Italy is always expected to lose. You people seem to want to make the whole defeat process realistic, but what about possible Italian successes in Africa and Greece?

The reason Germany is fun to play is that it is possible to win the war (with the Soviet Union) and with the New Order Events it is possible to defeat england. I'd like to see more events like this with Italy.

I know the New Order Events do expand Italy's sphere of influence somewhat, but as Yogi says the MOD is focused on Germany; not Italy. In other words, if Italy storms through the Suez Canal and into the middle east and relinks with Ethiopia, all is for not in the New Order Events; they get the same crappy deal.

Is anyone interested in helping me craft some events for Italy? I've been working on a Mod I have nicknamed "War for the Mediterranian" with events starting all the way back in 36. It is kindof Italy-Centric right now, so I could use some help with countries like England and France; even countries like Greece, Spain, and even Yugoslavia should been involved.

I want to realistically portray the possibilities that Italy faced in the 30's. Although with the invasion of Ethiopia in 36' Italy was pretty much destined to be the only major european ally of Germany, it was still possible right up until 39' that Italy would not have taken part in the war or would have joined the allies. Italy almost declared war on Italy ALONE in 34 over the first attempted annexation of Austria.

P.S. Perhaps I should start a thread...

There's 81 events for Italy in C.O.R.E. out of which a few are regarding Italy's move from Axis to Allies and the creation of R.S.I. In C.O.R.E. I've seen Italy conquer as far as South Africa and well into the Middle East so I'm really not sure where you are coming from. Have you played C.O.R.E.???

Italy.

Hmmmm...I had played an older version,

I've downloaded the newer one and have been impressed; as Germany at least. I am going to do a full game of Italy today and tomorrow.

Peace treaties are what I'm interested in though...going in and conquering everything is fine and good; that is easy...I don't like the unrealistic "Italy Annexing ALL of England" etc., etc. I think the RSI thing is neat, but I'm not sure if their are opposite events...I'll wait till I've gone through all the new events though....

- MVSN

EDIT: I've (quickly quickly) gone through Italy and I think C.O.R.E. is absolutely amazing. So much has been added and I love love love the new territorial claims. All the things I would have added are pretty much there except for a few. I was wondering though, in terms of Postwar (if the Axis Wins); do you guys intend put in events like Yogi's New Order events; or do you guys like to stick to mainly historical events like the ones that are in their now.

What I mean is; Don't you guys think it would be reasonable to have a peace treaty with England, say...if Italy is able to conquer through all of egypt and the middle east, link up with ethiopia...secure the mediterranian, etc. etc.

Well, we've got Yogi's agreement to include the New Order events but integration is not trivial. I don't think we can use them at all in the East, but possibly we might put something in for the West.

One more thing - I just discovered, that in RSI events chain south part of the Italy becomes ENG, not USA part. In effect all american units present in the area are removed, and Germany got easy job with the conquest of whole Italy.
I know it's a more work, but maybe this event should give southern Italy to USA if it controls Naples ans Sicily, and to UK if they control landing sites? It would help to keep stable front in the Italy - right now creation of RSI desintegrates allied forces in the area. :D

I volunteer for implementing New Order East. Not easy job, but it will be really fun to see at least some of those events in CORE.
