Civil War in Italy.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping me come up with a plausible Civil War in Italy Set of events.

I am not reffering to the Puppet RSI Events, I am talking about a Fascist Attempt to take control of the State as Well as Government. Although the only time it came close to this was in the early days of Mussolini (1922-4), it could have plausibly happened under certain circumstances.

This of course, would have meant a Civil War which the Fascists would most likely had lost as the Army would predominantly stay loyal to the King. The Militia would have sided with them, but since they swore an oath to the state that would still be iffy.

Since it is not something that had much of a chance of happening in the 30s, I was thinking a series of events would have to fire inwhich a player would have to make an unhistorical choice three times in a row for it to happen.

For example; events about the intransigenti and revisionati elements within fascism, rebirth of the squadrismo, a resurgence in republican elements in fascism.

P.S. Generalismo, when you get back...can you please check to see if you still have that email with my newest version of the events in it? I didn't make any backups :(

I'm just wondering, why the hell does Italy make so much Militia? Sure they keep getting invaded by the Brits in Naples but they easily destroy the landing! But the AI insists on Militia! Now they're sended all these Militia units to North Africa where they have annex Egypt. Why don't they make Infantry? Was this explained already?

I read a lot of posts about the AI making too much militia in the AI forums. Apparently, when the AI is losing, it goes into a "panic" mode and spends all available ICs on making units (while still maintaining the CG and supply demans of course). In all of my games, once they enter this panic mode, 90% of the units they crank out are militia. I guess its cuz they are cheap and fast to make, but they are so crappy its not worth it. It would be great if the CORE programmers could fix this. Instead of making the AI make militia while in this panic mode, have them make plain infantry.

The problem is that Italian AI shouldn't be in 'panic mode', the British landings in Italy are a joke. At one point they DID lose all of Libya but they retook all of Libya and Egypt (which they annexed before) to my surprise with tons of militia! They REALLY need to stop with militia at some point!

I don't think anyone has found a way around this. At keast not one that works. from what i am to understand, the "panic mode" is hard coded, that when a certain % of "home" provinces are taken by an enemy, the AI goes into the mode. We have, for example, tried to deactivate militia for the USSR, but the panic mode over rides any AI settings, and will produce militia units.

The problem with Panic mode is for example of Italy with Libya. I doubt that the level of panic in Italy with loss of Libya (this actually just fuelled more opposition to the Fascist Party) would reach such dizzying proportions. Unless if it was the one province that English keep taking then losing.

It's probably that one province that triggers the panic mode. I don't rcall seeing Italy in Panic mode if only Libya is lost.

Alright a question here on the italian Anexxation\puppeting of Ethiopia
Playing a JAP ITA game last night and with the occupation of Ethiopia the ITA player got the event, one problem it only shows option b the puppeting of Ethiopia. Playing as Italy in sp mode to rush and test had event fire properly for both of us running the test. This had occured once previously and was also in a MP game GER & ITA at that time. So is this something others have experienced or is there a known fix? 20 pages to read through to look for this is a bit much at this moment,

Mussolini wasnt a bad guy. He was an intelligent leader. I think there should be some events like Mussolini's birthday. Stuff like that.

Ahem? May I club you senseless?

Now, that said...Um, can I plug the books of one of my profs as I club Confederate?

Go read "Italian Fascists on Trial" (Domenico, Roy P., 1992)...ISBN is 0807820067, and the ASIN (for Amazon.com) is the same. It's not that expensive, and should be available from your local library or university bookstore.

Now, non-pluggy...

Go read the stuff written by George Mosse in "A General Theory on Fascism".

Go read ANY actual, scholarly book on the subject of Italian Fascism, actually.

I dunno where in the unholy name of creation you get the idea of Mussolini NOT being evil, but it probably involves a lot of hallucinogenic drugs.

I was focusing in on Italy (which was very different from Germany, AFAIK).

It was different, but not for this it should be forgot/forgiven.

Please let's use this thread only for suggestions for CORE, when I read similar things I am the first one that should count up to 10 and then take a deep breathe before starting to make a reply! This simply isn't the place...

Opinions are a wonderful thing, but any discussion of modern day politics doesn't really fit in a thread about WWII Italy, if you want to talk about them go to the OT or History forums. Well if you have any events for Italy after 1945 (as we are lacking in some), maybe we can turn those into events or something..
