As far as I can tell she was one of a kind

Well one website I saw referred to her as an "escort ship". Usually they dont build escort ships as one of a kind I dont think...

Does anybody know the displacement of the Italian auxillary cruiser Ramb1 and Ramb2? I know their armament but not their displacement or when they where converted and commissioned into the Regia Marina

Dont know, but Ramb I still exists, and was on sale recently.
It was captured by Yugoslavia in 1945 and was used as Tito's private "Yacht" (cruise ship, actually) named "Galeb" (Seamew).
After his death it was used as a cadet training ship. Apparently it has been sold to a new private owner but I dont know what for.
But it surely is about the largest Yacht in the world.

You're close. The "Galeb" is the number 3.

She was sold in the third auction for around 3 million DEM to a american from Hungarianorigin, who lives in france, who also earlier bought the "Christina O".

And that about all I can find. :)

EDIT: HMMM..... Wanted to use the edit button on my post but used the reply.

Nuclear merchant ship

what happened to it?Instead of it i get an attack transport or something. Is it decided not to include it any more or just a bug?

It looks like a bug in the naval tech
it activates model(10)which is the attack transport but should activate model 11

so to fix this juts go into the naval tech tree and search for nuclear merchant vessel and where it says 10 in effects change it to 11

Correct. It's a bug. Good pick-up guys! Thanks. :)

Will be corrected in a new version.

Large Submarine Torpedos.

When playing germany, i try to get the stats of my (to be built) subs up. The large submarine torpedo will give me a +2 attack value. However, i am not able to research that tech EVER because of the fact germany has as a default "submarine anti-commerce doctrine" reseached. For large sbmarine torpedos one would have toresearch ""submarine anti-naval doctrine", which is made unavalaible.

Could this be fixed? Or can i fix this myself easily? (I am playing HoI for a pretty long time now, but never got into scripting and editing myself... or even posting on the forum, for that matter).

Regards,

It is how it's supposed to be. Germany targeted commercial shipping and had no need for a large torpedeo warhead. Wich would be necessary if they wanted to attack naval forces.

But if you don't want it. You can go to the ger.inc file and remove the tech from the list and add the anti-naval docterine tech. This means replacing tech id: 13217 for 13216.

I am well aware germany sunk mainly merchant shipping, but i disagree (especially with regard to the beginning of the war) on not making large warheads available. Fleet vessels (incursion of Scapa Flow 1940 (Roal Oak); HMS Barham 1941 as main examples) and escorts were prime targets as well, as less of them would make praying on defensless merchants more easily.

So if these technologies are here to stay (and i understand the idea behind them), i would suggest giving the commerce sinking one a higher attack or organisation value. Making the choice for germany, and depriving germany from higher sub org + sea attack values in 1936 already is IMHO a bit early.

Of course this is only a minor issue, but i just wanted to give some input.

Keep up the good C.O.R.E work :)

PS. Thanks for your answer Crazyhorse :)

Large warheads

Hmm - to me, this is exactly the sort of thing you paly a game like HoI for - to try the "what ifs" of history - What if Germany developed a powerful Navy and went for confrontations with the French & British ? What if they ignored the Navy almost entirely, having just enough to guard the Baltic ?

Therefore, I would suggest removing both these Torpedo/Sub techs from the initial inc file, and let the player choose which one to research. You would need to make sure that the Anti-Merchant option looked attractive, mind you !

Tim

You can do that with the Z-Plan events. Having a big surface fleet is fun! You can have the Second Battle of Jutland but with a different outcome! :D

The German sub doctrines are based on the German Navy who obviously realised that challenging the British again in a naval race would be pointless and that the best use of their dockyards would be to produce subs and starve the UK into submission as they did in the Great War.

Z-Plan etc

Hmm.. Actually, I'd question the logic of going for the anti-shipping option, if you then choose the Z-Plan surface option - maybe if you choose the sub heavy option, it should select the Anti-Shiopping torpedo option.

Also, in CORE, I find U boats mostly useless.. their org never gets past about 30-35 - in Vanilla HoI, I got it up to maybe 90 or so at an equivalent time. Anyone care to explain why their org is now so low ? Or is it not that way for others ?

Tim

Because subs aren't supposed to fight battles to the death. They're meant to pop up, squeeze off a couple of torpedoes and leave before painful retribution falls down on them. So, in CORE they have low org, which makes them withdraw quickly from battles. They aren't "useless", they just not all-conquering weapons. Much better, IMO.

Subs

Ah, ok.. I understand now.. but (unfortunately) it also means they just cant stay at sea very long, before their org is reduced to single figures, even by encounters with convoys (I mean a few days here, not even weeks). I would like a way for them to be able to manage cruises of a month or more, without returning to port wrecks and utterly crippled - ideally, they should be a way to do this without making them ultra powerful against conventional naval forces - any ideas ?

Oh.. and I said "mostly useless".. lol - bit like "mostly harmless" as the entry for Earth in the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy !
