Re: New Order East

Right after Steel annonced, that Yogi agreed to use New Order Events in CORE I started working on that. The pack includes some elements that are already present in CORE (Ukraine, Vlasov, partisans, manpower), so we will have to decide which elements we will use, and which ones will be removed.

It will be a good moment to check all the triggers and conditions for USSR events. :D

So far I integrated files "quick and dirty method" and it works (no CTD), but there is still some work with removing some redundant events, adjusting effects and so on.

BTW, IMO simple integration of NOE into CORE is not enough. Original pack lacks for example Russian (not soviet) leaders, ai, ministers... It would be great to make Russia and other new countries fully playable, just as we did with Nationalist Spain, Vichy, or other countries created by the events.
well, adjusting effects will be the hardest part...
do you want me to help you with something on the ukraine issue?

AFAIK all of NOE are written for HoI 1.03 and The Yogi is now working on the 1.05 version. Has he released that? If not I'd strongly suggest taking no action until he does so as you'll just be duplicating his work.

No, he didn't. Although my implementation of his mod in CORE already works on the testing platform. I expect to finish it in 1 week (balance changes, tweaking, adding some new ideas...). :D

Yogi mentioned that he will finish the AAR fist. It's like 2 weeks time, plus work on modification of NO... When he release ne version we can simply check what was changed if it's good implement it in CORE (if permissed).

Still, whole NOW (West) needs someone to coordinate implementation. Any volunteers? :D

I have compared the new Paradox Bitter Peace events with our events and I think there is no changes needed on our side (because we have the independence commands). Let me know if I missed something.

This is probbaly the best place to post this..
but...i find the Bitter Peace turns out...freaky hard to achive. I've played a number of games as Germany, and i basicly have to capture everything but the far far eastern provinces of the USSR before i get it...one time, i had to annex all of the USSR,becue the option never came up. Very annoying, and i don't think Von Paulus and Manstien enjoyed their drives to the pacific...

Eastern Front is not a picnic, Herr General! ;)

But seriously - Bitter Peace got 5% chance of occurance every week, if:

1) Moscov, Stalingrad, Leningrad, Baku, Kiev and Minsk are yours...

2) Plus Magnitogorsk OR Wladivostok is captured.

As you see, if allied with Japan you don't have to drive to Siberia, just have some luck with game randomiser.

It's rather vanilla HoI thing.

On the other hand, in 0.6 we would add to CORE Yogi's New Order Events, so it would be easier to finish Barbarossa.

Ah...okay...it was just really annoying because in alot of the centeral areas of the USSR...it takes 2 months for a mech unit to move between them..

but some other werid stuf fi found...was that...SOVIET UNITS OFTEN RETREATED INTO MY TERRITORY...no other army did that...and often these were of 0 strength....basicly Chukov running around on foot...but as i said, this didn't occure with any other army...

USSR Naval Program Events

I have finished the Soviet naval building program events. It is a series of events now with different countries providing the technology needed to build a treaty battleship (Soyuz). It also gives the different countries the ability to refuse the technology to the Soviets. It should be headed to Steel and Generalisimo in the next couple of days for inclusion in the next version. MDow

You beat me to it MateDow...:). I have a half-finished set of my own, but vacation got in the way. Anyway, could I have a look at them? I am working on purges and appointments of the Chief of Navy (wich are linked to the Programme), and it would be nice to have them written in the same "style", so to speak.
My email: erikbengtsson att hotmail dot com.

And I've been thinking some more...
What about an altenative (hi)story line for the years prior to the war? Before anyone (Burris ;)) tells me that this is not what CORE is about, let me explain.

From what I have read of the quite interesting diplomacy of the pre-war years, the outcome that lead to the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact wasn't that sure. SOV and their rather western friendly Foreign minisister Litvinov was seeking an agreement with the western powers, France in particular, to halt German agression (and Fascism). But political decisions like the western non-intervention policy that throw Rep Spain to the wolfes and the constant unwillingness to stand up to Hitler (demilitarised zone, Austria, Checkoslovakia) led to the appointment of the more scrupless Molotov and the decision to look after their own house.

Before I go on I want to state that I'm not saying that if the SOV had their way Europe had been saved from Hitler. Stalin had, as we all know, his own agenda and his intentions was probably far from altruistic. But IMO a Western-Soviet "unholy alliance" was far from unrealistic up until the München agreement.

So my suggestion: Make an event that would fire if either England or France opted to support SPR and give a choice to refuse Germany Sudetenland or at least take joint Western-SOV action after either the ful occupation of Checkoslovakia or the invasion of Poland.
WWII would probably happen anyway, Hitler had allready made his mind up. But it would make an interesting twist.

This would offcourse disable the M/R Pact, but IMO that pact wouldn't had stood a chance of happening if the the western powers had supported SPR and Franco had lost the war OR if they hadn't given Checkoslovakia away. Remember that the pact was a HUGE surprise to the world inspite of everything that had happend.

As a sidenote, I believe that SOV offered military support to Checkoslovakia. Can't remember if this was for the Sudetenland or at the full occupation (what was that operation called BTW?) It would require SOV transition through Poland though, probably much like the English offer to support Finland via Sweden/Norway during the winter war , and the Poles naturally refused (from what I have read Poland was more in the axis than the allied camp back then and were pretty glad over Checkoslovakias faith. Can anyone comment on this?)

If you have had the patience to read all this - please comment :)

As far as i know, Poland took they share of Checoslovakia and didn't care about their destiny (look to another site while Germany was getting bigger)... but we have a lot of polish people here to help on that... :D

A few points on the Soviet AI. I think I've never seen the soviet AI build improved rubber and oil plants. They would do a whole lot towards solving their resource crisis after the war breaks out.

I also haven't seen them build basic tac and dive bombers (not even the prototypes). Historically they (Pe-2 and IL-2) where in production by the time of Barbarrosa.

I suppose these are AI-file problems.

The improved rubber/oil plants are quite important and should be fixed. If the AI wouldn't be able to handle this while building "hordes of T-34's", as someone wrote in the discussion forum (he must have been on something :p, I for one have never seen them get more than perhaps 30 tank div by middle 41 on hardest level), they could get the tech from the ever giving Uncle Sam as L/L. Would make sence I think.

Do the lend/lease supply convoys work BTW?

There still isn't any movecapital event. I guess this will be fixed with Yogis New Order in CORE. The trick is to make it fire before Moscow is captured to save the resources while keeping the historical situation with the Germans at the gates and Stalins decision not to evacuate.

It's probably a gameplay issue to stop the Germans from capturing huge resource stockpiles which they wouldn't have really gotten by capturing the capital.

Actually you need all 8 of those cities since there is an implied 'OR' inside the 'NOT' for Mag and Vlad. If you want it to be as you described you need an 'AND' inside the 'NOT'. It's counter-intuitive but that's how it works.
