In a few of the clips, weapons are floating in the air and being shot when the player uses them. It looks pretty lame (I know it is a power). Can we grab a gun and use it the usual way?

Don’t think this is the case, no. It was originally stated that no weapons could be used at all, before the levitating guns were shown. Could change now with the announcement of further delay.

There would be little reason for Phyre to use weapons normally if they can use them with telekinesis.. I think the main reason is that the guns are discarded after being used. Phyre doesn't stockpile weapons.

I dont expect to get answer ...
But i just have to ask: Why?

I mean what would be the logic behind such mindset?
Is weapon floating ten centimeters next to your palm provide any tactical advantage? :D

Bcs (and feel free to corect me) i dont see any ...

On the other hand, there would be one "reason" for Phyroe to use weapons normally: Masquerade.
I assume you heared about that? :D

I suppose the advantages would be no fingerprints on the gun and no gunshot residue on your hands if you ever get arrested.

But for myself, if I could use telekinesis I'd probably never pick anything up with my hands again. So there's that.

I admit ...
That is a good point.

Except if you ever get arested ... you have much biger problems than fingerprints. xD

I mean, me neither ... since im lazy as f ...
Still tho. :D I wouldnt by runing around fighting goons either, for the exactly same reason. :D

//Edit:
Personaly, i would bet its just a flex ...
"Oh look how powerfull i am" ... sure kiddo, sooooooooo powerful. -_-

Real world reason: developing proper gunplay costs money and development time (to be clear, as a gamer I don't like that removal of gunplay either especially since HSL Bloodlines 2 already had gunplay).

In game (lore) reason: well, that's TCR job to explain it somehow :D

I'm playing some Mirrors Edge 2 Catalyst right now and guns were cut from the first game due to the "real world reason" that I mentioned. Also rushed development (we are love EA, right? Right?! ;)) etc.

How they explained that protagonist can't use weapons anymore? When she was in jail for several months between first and second game, bad evil corpo developed some advanced tech that biometrically links a gun to it's legal owner (and only bad corpos and their goons can legally use them in this police state corporate world). Not sure if Bloodlines 2 world is that technologically advanced though. It certainly wasn't in Bloodlines 1. But we have magic, so it's probably easier for TCR to find some good lore reason.

Dude ... that is just bad excuse and im fairly certain you know it ...
There is everything you need around guns, since they will be there.

The only thing missing is swaping animation where you are holding the gun with your own hand, instead it floating in the air and you having your hand twisted as if you got spasm in it. :D

For all I know, the protagonist has been asleep for 100 years and do not know what a modern gun is, let alone how to use one.

A firearm is a complex piece of machinery that require training and skill to use properly and maintain. Telekinesis is fine for "pick up object" tasks, it is not fine for operating complex firearms that require precise aiming, hair-trigger feel, recoil damping etc.

The idea that a 400 (?) year old vampire with serious jetlag will happily use telekinesis to operate modern guns is a completely ridiculous concept that laugh at gameworld immersion.

How this idea this passed quality control and made it into a game is a mystery.

I‘d add that Hand Held firearms have been used for more than 700 years at this Point.
No way phyre didn’t use these in her unlife at this point. In Addition the point of modern firearms is that they can be easily Handled. If the Protagonist is used to flintlock or muskets they would find modern Arms an easily used tool to interact with.

100 years would only put them at 1920s, closely after the first world war, time of American prohibition and the tommy gun-wielding gangsters. No, Phyre would know what a gun, a car and an airplane is. So you should be thinking more along the lines of Indiana Jones being transported to modern day.

I dont believe anymore the non-developer explanation that floating guns was done due to cost reduction. I dont believe that there are that many guns in the game for it to truly matter. Even floating guns have animations. Instead I believe they made this aesthetic choice to hammer home that Phyre is not an average person. They have powers.

I also don't think this will bother people nearly as much once they get their hands on the game and get to go all 'Alucard in an elevator' on those poor schmucks who get in their way. Its just something people love to nitpick when they have nothing else to do.

Perhaps people genuinely find it off-putting or awkward. As I mentioned earlier, it comes across as cheap and uninspired to me. There's no need to put words in others’ mouths when they have already clearly expressed why they don’t like it.

I played the first game when it was released, back when I was much younger (I think around 18 back then?), and I look back on it with nostalgia. I’d really like to be able to enjoy the sequel. However, it looks very janky and cheap (and the gun thing is just one example). As they have delayed the game, I am hoping people can give some feedback and they could polish some aspects.

Then why can not a vampire actually use them in the game? That is the ridiculous part.
If you have ever fired a gun or rifle, you know that it require skill to aim, hit, recoil, reload etc. It is not as simple as in a hollywood movie.
To use telekinesis-vampire-magic for complex tasks like this is to make a game that is unbelievable, and it hurts the game.

It is too silly.

Other things then to use undefined-magic-vampire-powers for (especiallly if you are an undead eldritch abomination who have been asleep for 100+ years):
-Remotely drive a car
-Assemble IKEA furniture
-Play instruments in a band (several at once even)

Anything is possible! It's Magic!

(It just shows a lack of commitment/budget/passion for the game, wich makes me sad.)

Sadly, all prewievs i have read so far agree on one thing ...
This feels nothing like Bloodlines, nor Redemption.

What previews are those? The "react to X" videos from unknowns in the youtube, or the ONE previewer who actually got to physically play the game?
That preview is here for your viewing pleasure.

I read that article too and it put a lot of my worries to rest, so I would recommend others read it as well.

Of course the author of the article is probably someone who was predisposed to like it, but the article still manages to answer a lot of my worries and make me more hopeful about this game.

As for the main issue of the thread, I think Phyre doesn't use guns because it represents her lack of humanity and that she is far closer to her monstrous nature than most modern vampires.

You know those movies where the heroes all are soldiers getting picked off by a monster they can't see that sneaking around in the shadows, that's Phyre.
