Okay please differentiate between downloading and installing, since it is very confusing if you do not.

Downloading = Taking a copy from a website and saving it on your hard drive.
Installing = Running the program and having it update your game.

So you are saying that when you install 1.07 and then run the game the version number displayed changes to 1.07 but when you Download and then install 1.08 the version number does not change?
And further that this is 1.08 and not 1.08B that you are trying to install?
Sorry for not being more specific. I can install 1.07 without any problem directly from the Internet. The version number changes to 1.07.

When I downloaded and tried to install 1.08 or tried to install it directly from the Internet, my machine acts like it has carried out a successful installation. In other words, it appears that the machine has done the same things that it did when I successfully installed 1.07. However, when I pull the game up immediately after trying to install it, the version number is 1.00. I am sure that I am trying to install 1.08 and not 1.08B.

What does the registery entry list as path?

Start - run - regedt32 . Do a search for "europa". Look at each key found. One or more will point to a directory path, such as c:\program files\paradox\eu2 or whatever. Castellon is asking what you see in there; our guess is you have more than one path, one incorrect path, or something like that.

Thanks, Andrew T. I found the following:

C:\Program Files\Stratetgy First
C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Europa Universalis 2
C:\Documents and Settings\Shawn\Start Menu\Programs\Strategy First
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Meun\Programs\Paradox Entertainment

Go to Start menu and select run, then copy and paste each of the following 5 lines, one at a time and hit enter.

Tell me what happens for each.

C:\eu2.exe

C:\Program Files\Stratetgy First\eu2.exe

C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Europa Universalis 2\eu2.exe

C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\eu2.exe

C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Europa Universalis 2\eu2.exe

Okay, so somehow you have a copy of the game in C:\
Let's delete that file and then try and run the patch again.

I appear to have two copies of the game in C. One is in the C:\Program File and the other is in Documents and Settings. The one in the Program file contains Strategy First in the title and the one in Documents contains Paradox. I ended up deleting the two files in Documents and then tried to install 1.08. I was asked what file and I used "browse" to find the remaining game file in the Program File. It appeared that I successfully installed 1.08. However, when I started the game, the machine acted like I was pulling up the game from two separate files. The bottom of the screen showed that I had two EU2s. The machine also started the process of starting the game in the middle of pulling it up the first time. When the game finally came up, it was still version 1.00. At this point I am ready to just give up and go back to 1.07. Any last suggestions?

The files in the documents and setting are just for your start menu stuff.

I would manually uninstall the game foloowing the manual uninstall instructions, then do a search for eu2.exe to make sure there are no more copies.

Then install to the default drive and folder, then install patch 1.08, then install 1.08B

Then install to the default drive and folder, then install patch 1.08, then install 1.08B

Thanks for your patience. I have uninstalled the game. What is the default drive and folder and how do I install to them? When I installed the game in the past, I just clicked on install after putting the disk in my D drive.

Castellon was not referring to the entire C: drive, but the root folder c:\ itself; you seem to have a eu2.exe in there. You will need to remove all trace of EU2 from every single folder and registry entry before it's worthwhile reinstalling.

I ran a search for "eu2.exe" and "europa" and I believe I have removed all traces of EU2. I am not sure what he meant when he talked about installing to the default drive and folder.

Default drive and folder is the one it prompts you to install the game to.
That is unless you change the path it will install to the default one.
