I installed prison architect from the epic games launcher because it was free. upon attempting to launch, I got an error. I looked into other threads and nothing worked, so is there something special I have to do for the epic games version?

I hava a same problem. Red triangle with an exclamation mark near the launch press button. (useing off win security system)

I have a same problem too. When I press game start in launcher, it is closed automatically and nothing changed. I tried multiple times, still same. There are even no error alerts or error logs.

I am also having the same problem. There is only one reason, I think, because it's "free", so it doesn't seem to qualify you to play.
Because it's "free," it treats users this way.
You might be better off downloading "Clone" and enjoying the game

i fixed the problem by logging to my paradox account. When you do that wait for the launcher to update it will have an orange circle under the paradox logo when it is complete then open the game

I had the same issue just now but found a post here in the forum and solved it by installing MS Visual C++.

Can't post links so... the post's name is: "Launching the game failed Launcher Help" from a guy named Mr.Griffin.

I hope it helps.

Please update your video driver from your vendor's website:

If that doesn't help please go here:
And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

Good luck!

It still doesn't work for me.
What happens if you run Prison Architect64.exe directly from File Explorer?

Please attach here the game log C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Introversion\Prison Architect\debug.txt
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

AND DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Okay, so I solved this problem. When you start the launcher on Epic it has a spinning thing in the top left corner, which will show a popup that it is downloading a launcher update if you hover your mouse over it.
I waited for that, relauched the launcher, waited for *another* update and repeat. Then it finally actually launched the game when I pressed Play.

The Launcher can't connect...

So, how to update it?

I have updated the driver and installed MS Visual C ++ as instructed so far.
Then I run PrisonArchitect64.exe and it doesn't respond.
I also tried "Run as administrator" but it didn't add any debug logs.
The launcher is up to date (it says The_pen_1.02 in the bottom right) and is also connected to the paradox account.
What should I do?

How long did the updates take exactly?

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Epic app entirely
- run EpicGamesLauncher.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the Epic client

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

These are mine, I also have the same problem, I click on "Play" (in the launcher), see the game for 20-30 seconds, and then it crashes to epic games library, hopefully, there's a fix for this! it's a great game
(I did all the instructions you told)

Well, I've got the same problem. I downloaded it from Epic Games Launcher, downloaded the last C++ files, all graphic card's updates and now when I run the launcher and I press the "play" button the game runs for a while (maybe 10 sec.) and then it comes back to the Epic Games Launcher. I reinstalled the game a few times, but It doesn't help.
Also, that's an interesting fact - at the 4th line I've got exit status with number "1603", and that guy who sent his logs up to me has a 1605 exit error. idk does it even mean something because I've never been interested in that. One more thing is that I've got after that all same logs like Tamror (but with another error number) but I've got that line:
"2021-12-13 21:46:36 [main] [CRITICAL] Could not locate a valid installation of the Paradox Launcher:
open C:\Users\mazzi\AppData\Local\Paradox Interactive\launcherpath: The system cannot find the file specified."
Anyway, I'm adding my own logs. I hope someone can find how to fix that problem.
