Ok,

After much struggling with all the different options I found that renaming the AVI folder seems to work. The thing is that I never had this problem with EU nor EU2.

I have found that if I install HOI fresh I can play the intro video and play at different resolutions immediately after installation. However once I turn off my computer and turn it on again say a day later HOI does not seem to remember that it was able to play the intro video and play at resolutions higher than 800X600 before and I can only play at 800X600. HOI installs OK and plays OK immediately after installation but after the computer is turned off and turned on again HOI "forgets" the graphic setting or something like that and no longer works at higher resolutions.

The bottom line is that renaming the AVI folder is the only viable long term solution. HOI now has no problems with resolution and I now save time by skipping the intro video entirely!!!

Thank you all for all your help.

Glad to be of service. :)

I never had a problem with the bink intro; however, there is a update for xp that says "This update addresses the Game Stops Responding (Hangs) or Quits Unexpectedly When Introductory Video Clip Is Played issue in Windows XP". The update is called 327979 under the Recommended Update list. I don't know if it will help as I haven't tried it.

Hmmmm...

Good to know, thanks HVC! I'll be sure to suggest it next time someone has the same issue, unless of course one of you who renamed the AVI folder would like to try this....

That fix definitely helped eleiminate the crash on launch of binkplayer but I don't think it will fix the screen res issue on exit. Who knows though...maybe it will work.
