Action:
February 16, 1937 - After some action in Linguayen Gulf in an effort to save Clark Field from Japanese invasion, we had a Destroyer blasted down to 6%. We will send some brave commander to limp it back to Singapore for repairs. We gave the job to Rear Admiral Tuffnails. Our Transports made it to Clark Field and we were able to defend it.
February 18, 1937 - We eliminated the Japanese forces and the Philippines is safe once again. Task Force Destroyed made it to Singapore. Tuffnails did his job.
February 22, 1937 - With a hard-fought victory in Kaohsiung, we started our invasion of Taiwan. We captured the port and what's left of the airfield at 0500h and eliminated a single Japanese Interceptor Squadron. We still have those 6 Naval Bombers to struggle with.
February 26, 1937 - Japan retaliated by captured Naaru and our source of Rare Materials there. It frees up some convoys for us. We only have 71 spare. It is a very long distance for them to travel. Meanwhile, we captured Aparri in the Philippines and forced a small Japanese Fleet out of harbor.

February 30, 1937 - Another date that shall live in infamy - The Nanjing Massacre. We will look at the map soon. Japan is making progress into China, given that they captured Nanjing. Meanwhile, the 4 Japanese Submarines have found us at Serasan Straight, taking out 4 Convoys. We will have to reinforce some of our routes.

Here is a map of the situation:
1745631533191.png

We are up against:
28 Navy - 1 Battleship, 1 Battlecruiser, 1 Heavy Cruiser, 5 Light Cruisers, 6 Destroyers, 4 Submarines, 10 Transports
7 Air - 1 Interceptor, 6 Naval Bombers
116 Army - 40 Infantry, 8 Cavalry, 43 Garrison, 22 Militia, 3 HQ
Manchukuku - 7 Garrison
Mengkuku - 1 Infantry
Sinkiang - 3 Infantry, 2 Militia
Yunnan - 7 Infantry - We have 8 Infantry and some Air dealing with the last two.

75 Nationalist China - 59 Infantry, 5 Cavalry, 1 Garrison, 10 Militia - They still appear to outnumber Japan with Infantry, which would be sandals on the ground in China.

We have 20 Ships and 1 Bomber in the hospital. 9 of these are Battleships. The rest of our hunting might be up to our Carriers. We might also do well to gather up some Destroyers to go sub hunting.

Challenge Reloaded Session 7 - May 1, 1937 - Okinawa, Kyushu, and the French Invasion

Action:

March 1, 1937 - Of course we located the Japanese Submarines. There are 4 of them in Serasan Straight. We only have 2 spare Destroyers and are not sure if that is enough. We will try to muster a larger group.
March 2, 1937 - We drove Sinkiang troops out of Hotan, but it will take us more than one month to get there.
March 5, 1937 - Apparently getting attacked by planes on an Amphibious Assault Mission means they have to go back to port. That is silly and we must find a workaround. We moved our Interceptors to Taiwan to fight for air superiority.
March 6, 1937 - We completed our takeover of Taiwan.
March 12, 1937 - Captured Okinawa. Capturing the Airbase reduced Japan to 1 Interceptor and 4 Naval Bombers.
March 17, 1937 - Xianuan and Baoshan are now occupied and Yunnan is reduced to a single province.
March 18, 1937 - Sir Austen Chamberlain died. In a last stand battle, we were able to wipe out what remains of Yunnan's forces.
March 22, 1937 - The Japanese attacked our fleet at Taiwan. That means their Naval Bombers are within 800km of Taiwan. It appears they are based in Shikoku and if we have to, we will move our fleet.
March 25, 1937 - Ireland still wants territory.
March 28, 1937 - We did not succeed in taking out Shikoku because we did not commit enough troops. We managed to take out all of their capital warships and have left the IJN with 2 Light Cruisers, 2 Transports, and 4 Submarines we would do well to hunt down eventually.
April 3, 1937 - We captured Fukuoka and the Air Base, but their air forces escaped.
April 8, 1937 - Aksu. It is a desert along the old Silk Road. I am struggling to find these places on my old atlas.
April 10, 1937 - Kagoshima April 10 - This completes the occupation of Kyushu.
April 18, 1937 - Hotan
April 27, 1937 - Shikoku and this gets us another big air base.

Production:
Destroyer 2.12 33rd Destroyer Flotilla - April 17, 1937
Submarine 3.05 10th Submarine Flotilla - April 17, 1937
Queen Mary Flotilla - Transport 14 April 29, 1937
4th Infantry Division - Infantry 19 April 29, 1937
6th Infantry Division - Infantry 20 April 29, 1937 - It is unlikely we will be able to keep up with Manpower demands.

de Havilland, Skill 7, Cost £1.89, Research 68.64
3x15 +12 +30 = 87 days - June 24 - It is unlikely we will ever use these. We now have 3 Teams active and 2 Projects left to assign.

Time 65 days - exact
Cost: £122.85

Time 55 days - exact
Cost: £133.65

37-5 Dive Bombing Doctrine - March 27, 1937

Cost: £105.84

Challenge Reloaded Session 8 - July 1, 1937

Action:

May 15, 1937 - Those submarines are still out there We lost another 7 in the Central Spratly sea, because we turned convoys over to AI and they did not reinforce them properly. We resorted to AI Convoys because we could not find the name of a port in a list They should have used the HoI system where we just click where we are coming from and where we are going.
June 4, 1937 - Captured Seoul. We should probably work on Japan, but we got a piece of Korea instead.

Challenge Reloaded Session 9 - September 1, 1937 - The Korean Campaign

Action:

July 9, 1937 - Captured Pyongyang. The Korean War will go much faster once we get more boots there.
July 15, 1937 - Wonsan. There will be a bunch of troops in the mountains we will have to eliminate.
July 20, 1937 - Sinuiju. With this, we have formed a border with French Manchuria.
August 5, 1937 - We lost another 2 Transports in the middle of the Pacific. They must have gotten lost. We are 997/1010.
August 14, 1937 - Hamhung. We will try to advance troops there.
August 18, 1937 - HMS Rodney spotted a Japanese Convoy, but it was too well protected. Just how many Escorts do they have to defend against a Battleship?
We will go back to Hong Kong and regroup our ships.
August 19, 1937 - We captured Hyesang. There are two more Korean provinces to capture.
August 26, 1937 - Finally some success in the Yellow Sea. We took our 4 Transports and 2 Escorts with our Battleship Group, and one of our Destroyers took 30% damage and another one took 2%. We will run replacements.

World Political Stage:
July 8, 1937 - Nationalist China annexed Sinkiang. Manchukuo and Mengkukuo remain.
July 11, 1937 - France annexed Manchukuo. They now have 10 BB.

37I Basic CAS Aircraft - Start 37.07.01

4x30 +59 = 179 days

Cabinet Changes:
July 12, 1937 - We put John Strachey and his Carpet Bombing Doctrine in charge of the RAF.

It's hard to tell how the war in China is going, but Japan has no navy left. We should finish the campaign in Korea and then we can look at invading Honshu.
1745776820101.png

46 Infantry and 5 Cavalry is what we are dealing with. China has 62 Infantry and 9 Cavalry. So we believe they will eventually prevail, especially given there is no way to send reinforcements.

Challenge Reloaded Session 10 - October 1, 1937 Stalemate

HoI3 - Apparently I have stability issues and looked them up. I will have to experiment with workaround. Getting through the UI is intimidating.
Darkest Hour - I looked at the 1933 scenario. It's 30 years from 1933 to 1963. A lot of it looks like HoI2 and should be familiar. At VH, for a long time, we will be getting nothing done. Would our resources also be at 0%? I forgot to check. Is there an event before 1936 that gets us from 40% to 50%?

Action:
September 16, 1937 - Our Battleship squadron got 10 Transports and 1 Escort, bringing the total up to 14 / 3.
September 17, 1937 - We destroyed another 9 Transports and 1 Escort, bringing the total up to 23 / 4.

36th Destroyer Flotilla - September 27, 1937 - Destroyer 3.04
RAF No 10 Fighter Group - October 1, 1937 - Interceptor 5

Promotions:
September 5, 1937 - L General Tedder, Skill 6 Night Carpet Bomber

Here is a map of the stalemate:
1745807033468.png

There are 8 Divisions in that pocket in North Korea and we cannot break them. They regain their Organization faster than we can break it. It is 3 Garrison, 2 Infantry, 2 Militia, 1 Cavalry. We will look for another means. Breaking into Honshu might also be impossible for a while.

Our alternative method of breaking the pocket might be destroying the Infrastructure and that way, they should not be recovering org very quickly.

Darkest Hour is a lot of fun, and is closest to HOI2...

...and is the one I play...

;)

I'm fascinated by the idea of a DH game. Do you have any recommendations for which scenario?
1933 or 1936? Regular.
I might have to learn some new combat mechanics.
It looks like there is no MP increase until we mobilize, which is then too late. It might take away the feeling I had from the previous game that we simply built too many units.
