Notable Events in the North​

The Lone Wolf Dies​

The deaths of Lord Rickard Stark, his firstborn son and heir Brandon, and his only daughter Lyanna struck a heavy blow to House Stark. Thankfully Lyanna’s son was saved, but it was strongly believed that Brandon’s blood died with him. But then three of his natural daughters had been found. Two youngest and their lives were covered in the previous chapter on the Riverlands. The oldest, Lady Marna, was found in the North. She was raised at Winterfell and later married the heir of Hornwood. Their marriage will be covered in the upcoming part of the North Chapter.

The Pack Survives and Thrives​

The future of House Stark (and some can argue that of the whole Realm) fell heavy on the shoulders of Lord Eddard Stark. The Quiet Wolf proved to be wholly up to the task and served his House and the Crown until his death in the year 328AC. His body was interred in the Crypts of Winterfell with the greatest honors along with his beloved wife, Lady Catelyn of House Tully.

There Must Always Be a Stark in Winterfell​

Lord Eddard’s eldest, Lord Robb, known later as Ironworded, succeeded his father as Lord Paramount of the North. He was married to the generous Lady Margaery of House Tyrell all the way south in the Reach. It was a loving marriage based on mutual respect and the North prospered even more under their rule.

The pair had six children together, all of them lived to adulthood.

Their oldest daughter, Lady Sybelle, was first supposed to marry the firstborn son of Lord Reed of the Neck, but unfortunately the boy died. Lady Sybelle was then married to the Lord of Barrowlands, Lord Hoster of House Dustin. They had six children, all of them lived to adulthood. Tragically Lord Hoster later had to be beheaded by his own father-in-law.

The second daughter, Lady Alys’s, marriage turned up much happier than her older sister. She is married to Lord of Karhold, Lord Rickard of House Karstark, third of his name. They have seven living children.

The third daughter, Lady Jeyne Strongwolf, is also happily married. She and her husband, Lord Royce the Confessor, Lord of Last Hearth, have five children, all of them still very much alive.

The fourth daughter, Lady Wynafryd, was married to Lord Barhtogan the Bold of White Harbor until his death in the year 358AC. All five of their children are alive and well too.

The youngest daughter, Lady Jocely, finally did what her oldest sister was supposed to do and married Lord Reed of Greywater Watch. Lord Rodrick the Bear and his Cunning Wolf had six children together, all of whom lived to adulthood, but unfortunately their second son died later in life.

Lord Robb’s younger son was given command of Moat Cailin. Commander Medger is married to Lady Alysanne of House Umber. They had four children together, all of whom lived to adulthood, but then the tragedy took their firstborn son (poor Lady Alysanne is drowning her days in all kinds of strong spirits she could find and Commander Medger spends his days in the woods with his wolf, hunting whatever comes into view).

The tragedy that took the son in question, Rickard, involved him clashing with his cousin, Lord Jon, in a heated argument. Both men were known for their short temper, so it was of no surprise that the shouting grew into a duel. It is unknown whether Lord Jon had killed his cousin on purpose or if that was an accident, but Rickard did unfortunately die in that duel. He was married to Lady Tyrene Flint from the Widow’s Watch Flints but they did not have any children. Lady Tyrene later remarried into House Mormont.

Two of poor Rickard’s sister, ladies Mariya and Owella, are both married into prominent families and have children of their own.

The youngest of the bunch, Lord Wydron, married his kinswoman, Lady Jocelyn from the Skagosi branch. He was given the command of the newly created Lordship of the Wall after the dissolution of the Night’s Watch.

After Lord Paramount Robb’s death in the year 351AC, his oldest son, Lord Paramount Eddard, the second of his name, succeeded him as the Warden of the North. He was married to Lady Alysane of House Bolton until her death in the year 356AC. That loss might have pushed the Direwolf of Winterfell over the edge as there are more and more reports of unnecessary cruelty and questionable judgements coming from the North.

Before succumbing to his madness, Lord Paramoung Eddard arranged prestigious marriages for his three daughters: ladies Arrana, Myriame and Alarra.

His youngest son, Lord Edwyn, had been given command of The Shadow Tower in the newly created Lordship of the Wall. He married a strong girl from a very prominent freefolk family and they are expecting their first child.

The middle Stark son is unfortunately already dead. He was taken by an infection of the wound he sustained in sparring match. He was married to Lady Barba of a newly elevated House of Hodor. They had two daughters together. Lady Barba later remarried into House Flint from Flint's FInger.

Lord Paramount Eddard’s heir is the infamous Lord Jon the Kinslayer. He is married to Lady Sabetha of House Umber.

The Wise Wolf of Stony Shore​

The Quiet Wolf’s second son, Lord Brandon, was granted the Lordship of Stony Shore and made the Sea Dragon’s Point his seat. The Wise Wolf was married to Lady Lynarra, bastard-born daughter of the Usurper. After her death in the year 346AC he pledged to remain unremarried. After losing his leg in a hunting accident, Lord Brandon spends most of his free time with his large collection of animal companions.

It is widely assumed that Lord Brandon’s line is blessed by the Old Gods. If one’s to believe that the twins are a blessing from the gods, then that assumption sure is true.

The first pair of twins came to Lord Brandon himself. They were later granted the lordships in the newly created Lordship of The Gifts.

People also say that the middle child is always the most neglected. This is also definitely true in this branch of the Starks.

Lord Theon the Troubadour was always left for his own devices. The only child to be left without a title, he does not seem to mind it that much. He is happily married to Lady Joranna of House Glover and both of their older children seem to be quite happily married as well.

The Wise Wolf’s second son, Lord Benjen, married Lady Melene of House Bolton and was granted a castle of Sea Dragon’s Watch as a wedding gift.

He is the third Stark of Stony Shore to be blessed with twins. Those twin boys married Karstark twin girls and both pairs had twins of their own.

Lord Brandon’s heir is Lord Osric. He is married to Lady Dacey of House Ryswell.

Lord Osric is the second one to be blessed with twins. Both men are married with broods of children of their own.

But it isn’t all blessing that this family receives.

In a misguided attempt to impress his new bride, Lady Ryessa of House Cerwyn, Lord Osric’s third son, Errold, bravely took a swim in the Sunset Sea. Swimming during the first moon of the year proved fatal to young Errold and he died of pneumonia not long after his wedding. Lady Ryessa later remarried into House Cassel.

Lord Osric’s only daughter, poor Lady Mylarra, exhibits signs of a disturbed mind. She is betrothed to young Wyman of House Liddle, but it is yet unknown if the wedding would go through or not.

The Direwolf of Skane​

The Quiet Wolf’s youngest son, Lord Rickon, grew up into a force to be reckoned with. Known for his often violent temper, he took it upon himself to establish a permanent base on the northernmost island of Skane and pacify the unruly Skagosi raiders that up to that time were considered a backward folk, rumored to still perform human sacrifices to weirwoods, lure passing ships to destruction with false lights, and engage in cannibalism during winter and continue the banned tradition of the first night.

Instead he fell in love with and married the daughter of one of those “savages” and united the clans under his banner.

Both of their daughters are happily married.

Lord Eyron, the Skane’s Direwolf’s youngest son, was granted the newly established Lordship of Eastwatch. He married Lady Noshi of the prominent freefolk House of Mossfoot. She actually was brought up at Skane alongside him and adopted both his cultural and religious traditions.

Lord Rickon’s oldest son, Lord Harlon, was married to Lady Cylla of House Umber until her tragic death in the year 355AC. Lady Cylla found an abandoned wolfling not far from the fortress and tried to take the poor thing back with her but got bitten and later died frothing at the mouth. Lord Harlon took this loss very hard and abdicated all his rights to his father’s seat. Their only daughter seems to be relieved by that development as she is extremely shy and does not wish to become the Lady in her own right.

The second son, Ser Robb, is convinced that he would be murdered as soon as he accepts the role of an heir, so he has repeatedly declined the honor.

With his wife, Lady Lyanne of House Manderly, Ser Robb has two daughters.

The older one, Lady Lynara, is quite happily married to Theomore of House Liddle.

The family life of the younger one, Lady Arsa, is much more complicated.

Lady Arsa is married to the Lord of Lonely Hills, Lord Harmond of House Lake. They have a son together. Lady Arsa also has a handmaiden, also named Arsa, whom she considers as her friend. Arsa the Handmaiden also had a son with Lady Arsa’s husband, but the boy was sadly born dead, which devastated Lord Harmond who seems to be genuinely in love with Arsa the Handmaiden. It all seems a bit unusual, but it is not for a celibate maester to judge, so let us just move on.

So the current heir to the Lordship of Skagos is Lord Rickon’s third son, Lord Alaric, a cruel and suspicious man. He is married to Lady Berena from the new House Hodor.

Their daughter is married to her kinsman, the freshly appointed Lord of The Wall, Lord Wydron of House Stark of Moat Cailin.

Lord Alaric’s young heir, Lord Jonos, just married Lady Tallora from a prominent skagosi clan.

It’s Flayed Men, by the Old Gods, It’s Flayed Men​

Let us take a look now at other northern Houses.

The one that got the closest to the ruling House Stark is House Bolton.

Despite his infamous inability to not hold a grudge Lord Roose, the third of his name, served as the master of whispers to the Quiet Wolf until death in the year 328AC, the same one that saw his liege depart from this life as well.

In the North, Your Blades Cut You​

The only grudge that the Leech Lord did not hold was the death of his natural-born son, the infamous bastard Ramsay. After numerous reports about the atrocities he and his Bastard's Boys had committed, Lord Eddard dispatched his men to hunt them all down.

It took some time to find the scattered scum, but in the end they were brought to justice and their reign of terror finally ended.

The Full Sheath​

The Leech Lord’s only legitimate son, Lord Domeric, the second of his name, succeeded his father as the Lord of Dreadfort. He was married to Lady Meera of House Reed. Their tender and loving marriage produced seven children, all of whom lived to adulthrood.

Their oldest daughter, Lady Alysane, became the Lady of Winterfell. Her marriage was already covered earlier in the chapter. Ladies Jonelle, Melene and Bethany are all happily married as well.

Unfortunately some Bolton girls were not so lucky.

Lady Lyanna was married twice. Her first husband, Lord Hallis of House Ashwood of Shepherd’s Hills, was openly unfaithful to her throughout their marriage. When he was found dead there were some talks about Lady Lyanna’s involvement but a man as ruthless and volatile as Lord Hallis never felt a shortage of enemies so all those talks quickly died out without any proof. Lady Lyanna remarried to Warrick of House Liddle, a man quite younger than her. They managed to have a daughter together before poor Warrick’s mind was literally eaten away by a nasty tumour. Poor Lady Lyanna did not remarry after that.

After another Bolton girl’s tragic love life the people started talking about a curse looming over a certain name…

Lady Lyanna had a sister named Lady Lyanne. And she was married three times, and all of them ended in disaster.

Lady Lyanne’s first husband was Lord Roose of House Hornwood of The Broken Branch, but he died in a horrible accident at the age of five-and-twenty, just two months after becoming a Lord.

Lady Lyanne’s second husband was, like her sister’s, quite younger than her. And he too died from a sickness right after his sixteenth nameday.

Unlike her sister, Lady Lyanne decided to try and find that marital bliss one last time. She married master Robett of House Barstark of Harwood’s Hold. They managed to have a son before master Robett died from what looked like an ordinary flu. It was too much for poor Lady Lyanne and she died after three years of extreme grief.

The last child among the seven and the only son and that, Lord Theonald succeeded his father in the year 348AC. He is married to Lady Syrona of House Karstark.

Two of their oldest sons seem to be almost complete opposites of each other.

Belthasar, the heir, embodies almost all of the stereotypes held against House Bolton. He is also married waaay above his station as his wife, Princess Sygarda, is the daughter of King Karlon from Beyond the Wall.

Lord Edric of Ethering, the second son, is rumored to be highly suspicious or even borderline paranoid about his older brother. Given the fact that Belthasar is known to be very greedy and possessive, Lord Edric might have some solid ground for his fears.

Fifty Shades of Grey Water​

Another House that bonded with the Starks by blood is House Reed.

Lord Howland, the Mystic of The Neck, was Lord Eddard’s life-long friend and supporter. It is now known that he had a major influence on the Quiet Wolf’s decision to stage The Coup and reveal the true identity of our believer King Jon.

The account on life and marriage of Lord Howland’s oldest daughter, Lady Meera, can be found in the previous part of this chapter.

His younger daughter, lady Lysa, was married to the brilliant commander of Gatehouse Tower, lord Areo of House Flint from Flint’s Finger.

Unfortunately Lord Howland’s youngest son, Halys, was taken by sickness at the age of just twenty years. He was married to lady Bethany of the same House Flint. She later remarried to Lord Donnel of Silvereed.

Lord Jojen, the third of his name, succeeded his father as Lord of the Neck in the year 331AC. He was married to Lady Jorelle of House Mormont until his own death in the year 339AC.

Unfortunately their daughters were quite unlucky in their marriages.

Lady Berena was married to Ser Willam of House Waxley. He was notoriously unfaithful and finally died from a brothel disease that ate all of his dignity and mind. Lady Berena came back to The Neck, never remarried and is quite happy to serve as her brother’s commander.

Another daughter, Lady Jessamyn, was first married to Jorah of House Liddle (the father of that same poor Warrick, Lady Lyanna Bolton’s second husband). Jorah was supposed to be a man whose wits were as strong as his arms if only he didn’t lose a grip on reality at the most unexpected of times. It is rumored that he was somehow responsible for the death of his first wife, but nothing had been proven and Jorah took everything he knew with him to the afterlife when one of his own fits brought about his demise. Lady Jessamyn later remarried Rickon of House Knott, a man-at-arms at the household of the King himself.

Lord Jojen’s sons are doing marginally better.

His youngest son, lord Walton, was born a twin, but his sister was unfortunately born dead. He is married to lady Marna of House Flint from Flint’s Finger. Their son, Willam, is married to lady Cyrelle from the same House.

Lord Jojen’s second son, master Wendel, was granted his own household of Reedhall. He is married to lady Owella of House Poole.

Unfortunately the gods were not kind to the pair’s children as two of them died of sickness and the oldest seems to be losing her grip on reality. The current heir to the Reedhall is master Wendel’s older brother and liege.

Lord Roderick seems to be the most gods-favoured of the bunch. On the other hand, he did lose his hand while wrestling with his own bear that he got his nickname after, so there is also that.

The Bear of Greywater Watch is married to the Cunning Wolf of the Starks, Lady Jocelyn. They had six children together, although their second son’s story truly is a tragic one.

Fortunately all of their daughters are happily married with healthy children of their own.

Their youngest son, Ronnel, also seems to thrive, as well as their heir, Theonald.

So it was their second, Harrion, and his family who felt the unpredictable wrath of faith.

Harrion was married to lady Raya of House Locke. The genuine love and affection between the two was noted by everyone around them. They loved and cherished each other as well as their son, Henley. It all went straight downhill when their second son, poor little Eyron, was born dead in the year 354AC. His father’s broken heart gave up a year later. In her enormous grief, the bereft lady Raya disappeared one day from their chambers at Greywater and was later seen on the Bridge of Skulls all the way near the Westwatch-by-the-Bridge. Reports then say that she closed her eyes, opened her arms, smiled and threw herself into the darkness of the Gorge.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms​

Let us recover from the morbid tales of love and loss and take a look at yet another House that prospered in recent times.

Under its formidable leader, Lady Maege, Bear Island and House Mormont were finally recognised as being on par with such Houses as Glovers, Ryswells, Dustins, Liddles, Boltons, Umbers, Karstarks, Hornwoods, Manderlys, Lockes and Reeds.

Lady Maege also arranged the most prestigious marriages for her daughters.

Her youngest, Lyanna, was married to the Master of Wolfswood, Lord Damon of House Glover.

Lady Lyra was married to Jon Smalljon of House Umber, Lord of Last Hearth. They sure made quite the power couple.

And finally Lady Maege’s heir and successor, Lady Dacey, was married to one the most prominent freefolk commanders, lord Toregg the Tall, who renounced his family name for hers (probably because freefolk do not really follow any tradition of family names in the first place).

GAME OF THRONES - ALYSANE MORMONT by Paolo Puggioni

Their only daughter, Lady Berena, was married to Lord Royce of House Ryswell until his death in the year 342AC at the age of just nine-and-twenty. Lady Berena never remarried and remains in the Rills as a member of her son’s small council.

Lady Dacey’s youngest son, lord Walder, is married to lady Branna of House Dustin. Their son, also named Walder, is married to lady Alys of House Fisher.

Lady Dacey’s third son, ser Galbart Strongbear, was married to lady Donella of House Moss until his death in the year 357AC. Their only son, ser Joseth, is married to lady Tyrene Burley, but they do not have any children together yet. Ser Joseth though does have a son who he claims he beget on a bear in the woods, a deed that got him his nickname. Ser Ramsay, for the story of his birth called the Bear, was not recognised as a full member of House Mormont. He proceeded to run away at a young age and then came back with a wife who claims to be a princess to the last free freefolk kingdom. Everyone on Bear Island seems to just roll with it so we will too.

Lady Dacey’s second son, lord Benjen, was married to lady Donella of House Wells until his death in the year 356AC.

Their only daughter married Edwyle of House Knott, but somewhere down the road she became and openly known mistress to her husband’s own brother, Lord Benfred of Arrendell, and bore him a bastard son.

After Lady Dacey’s death she was succeeded by her firstborn son, Lord Brandon. He was married to Lady Owella of House Forrester, but he also had a “bearcub” of his own as well as a more problematic bastard that had Lord Brandon executed by his liege Lord. There are still some that express doubts whether he deserved it or not.

The bastard in question is named Jonos. He was born to Lord Brandon and lady Jonelle of House Dustin, a lawful wife of one of Lord Brandon’s kinsmen. Jonos was not recognised as a full member of House Mormont nor House Dustin. He combined the names and shields of both houses and made his own. He just got married to Arya of House Erkin, themselves a bastard branch of House Hornwood.

Lord Brandon’s only daughter is legitimate. Lady Barbrey was born a twin, but her brother was unfortunately born dead. She is married to ser Wynton of House Cassel.

Another legitimate child of Lord Brandon is Walton. He is married to lady Alysane of House Flint from the Mountains.

The less problematic bastard is ser Bennard. A tradition emerged for those kids to be called bearcubs, so he grew up to be Ser Bennard the Bear. He was actually recognised as a full member of House Mormont, a move that greatly upset Lord Brandon’s wife and was later used against him at the court. Ser Bennard is married to lady Jorelle of House Cerwyn.

Their son is married to lady Marna of House Liddle. They already have four children.

Both ser Bennard’s daughters are married into proper northmen Houses.

Lord Brandon’s second son, lord Ethan, went the same road as his father before him. He is married to lady Alanna of House Moss and has a legitimate daughter by her, but he also has a natural “cub” named Jorah.

After Lord Brandon’s execution, his firstborn son, Lord Harmond, became the Lord of Bear Island. He is married to Lady Sylvi from a parallel branch of his own House. He seems to steer clear from any inappropriate relations with bears as of yet. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that his wife literally has a bear as a constant companion as well as a wolf. Or maybe he just genuinely loves his wife for a change.

The Wood Foot Bears​

The aforementioned parallel branch actually was considered a main one before Lord Jeor abdicated his seat in favor of his son who then proceeded to get himself exiled.

Lord Jeor then became Lord Commander of the Night's Watch and died on his duty in the year 308AC.

His disgraced son Jorah was later found in Essos and a pardon was negotiated and pleaded by the Queen herself. Ser Jorah came back with a silver-haired wife in tow which made the Queen chuckle for some reason. The pair was permitted to return to Bear Island if they wished which they eventually did.

Ser Jorah was eventually granted a fortress of Woodfoot Watch and relocated there with his family.

His only daughter was married to Master Jormyn of House Cassel of King’s Course until his execution by his liege in the year 349AC.

The second son, Joron, was married to lady Robyn of House Ryswell until her death in the year 350AC. There was a rumor about a lowborn girl who claimed that Joron actually married her before he died, but my sources unfortunately could not find the girl in question or any documents related to the marriage.

Joron’s son, Ser Jorah, is technically married to that same lady Jonelle Dustin that bore a bastard from Lord Brandon. It was Jorah that accused Lord Brandon of raping his wife and demanded a trial that resulted in Lord Brandon’s execution. Although people who knew Lord Brandon all agree that he was kind and temperate person and it would have been extremely out of character for him to rape anybody. But Ser Jorah had witnesses and lady Jonelle chimed in with tears and wailing so the deed was done. Ser Jorah later left Bear Island and was last seen among the mercenaries of The Bright Banners company. Lady Jonelle did not accompany him and stayed on Bear Island with her children.

Ser Jorah and lady Jonelle have one legitimate son together. Ser Rogar is married to Lady Tyrene of House Flint from Widow’s Watch, herself the widow of ill-fated Rickard Stark of Moat Cailin.

Master Alton became the head of the Woodfoot branch after his father’s death in the year 311AC. He was married twice. His first wife, lady Sylene of House Forrester, died of pneumonia at the age of one-and-thirty. Master Alton later remarried to lady Melene of House Flint from the Mountains. She is in mourning since his death in the year 355AC.

Master Alton’s daughter, Lady Sylvi, is the current Lady of Bear Island.

His other daughter, Malerra, was married to Lord Robard of House Stout of Goldgrass until her rather suspicious death at the age of just eight-and-twenty. Lord Robard soon remarried to Lady Arya of House Umber, a widow to one of the Hornwood brothers.

Master Benjicot is the current head of the branch. He is married to mistress Sylene of House Ryswell. He also has a “bearcub” daughter.

The Road to Hells is Paved with Good Intentions​

During the reign of our beloved Queen, some houses seemed inspired to better themselves and work through their differences with other houses. One of such examples is House Forrester.

Lord Gregor made some mistakes and kept some secrets, but in the end his subjects and family remember him as Gregor the Good.

He organised the marriage for his oldest legitimate daughter, Lady Mira, with Lord Durin of House Woolfield of Ramsgate, when both were very young. He unfortunately could not have foreseen what a man Lord Durin would become. Fortunately his love of drink brought with it a disease that ate away his intestines and he died at the age of just five-and-thirty. His widow then ran as far away as the Vale and married good-natured Ser Orton of House Pryor. After her death Ser Orton remarried, but his second wife also unfortunately died.

Lady Talia’s married life wasn’t much better. She was married to Master Benfred of House Tallhart of Torrhen’s Square. His body proved much more resilient and he didn’t die until the age of two-and-sixty so poor Talia had to endure his cruelty and rudeness for almost entirety of her adult life.

Lord Gregor’s third legitimate son, Ethan, was married to lady Sylvi, a silver-haired girl that was brought from beyond the Wall by Ethan’s bastard siblings.

Their daughters were both married into prominent houses. Lady Sylene unfortunately died at a relatively young age of one-and-thirty, but lady Sabetha is still alive and even serves at her liege’s small council.

Lord Gregor’s second legitimate son, Asher, made a lot of mistakes as well. He eloped with lady Gwyn, a girl from a rival House Whitehill and married her without her family’s consent. After they were found, their daughter was sent to the Ironrath, lady Gwyn was sent home and Asher was sent to the Wall. He managed to become a commander of Brandon’s Gift and then blew it all by not only meeting with his beloved Gwyn, but also getting her with child. For his transgression he was sadly executed by Lord Commander Benjen. Lady Gwyn never married.

Their daughter, lady Owella, was married to Lord Brandon, that same Husband to Bears from House Mormont of Bear Island. Their marriage is covered in the appropriate previous part of this chapter.

The son, Ser Jon, was declared as also legitimate, left the Ironrath to serve as a mercenary in The Ragged Standard company. The only three times that news from him came back were two deliveries of living, breathing sons that the notes attached to them claimed to be born in wedlock, and a delivery of his own lifeless body in the year 355AC.

Interestingly enough, the younger of the two sons willingly left to serve in then-functioning Night’s Watch “to redeem the sins of his grandfather”. The older son is married and currently resides at the seat of his grandmother’s House.

Lord Gregor was succeeded by his oldest legitimate son, Lord Rodrick. He was married to Lady Elaena of House Glenmore. Their very loving marriage produced only two children.

Their daughter, lady Cymoril, was married to Ser Edwald of House Wells until his death at the age of eight-and-thirty. Lady Cymoril never remarried.

Lord Rodrick’s only son, Lord Hothor, succeeded his father in the year 330AC. He was married to Lady Mariah of that same House Whitehill. This marriage was supposed to be different though. With this marriage Lord Hothor tried to mend the feud that had been going on between their houses for far too long. But sadly it was not meant to be. It is widely speculated that Lord Hothor’s and Lady Mariah’s deaths had something to do with the Whitehills. The fact that poor Lord Hothor seemed to suffer from every ailment imaginable, even those that he, a king and loving husband, could not possibly had contracted, seems highly suspicious. But nothing had ever been proven.

Lord Hothor and Lady Mariah only had daughters and all of them were married off to different families.

That’s why Lord Hothor’s youngest uncle, Lord Ryon, was the one who succeeded him. He was married to Lady Jenna of a minor House Tuttle.

Their daughter, lady Arra, is married to Jossart of House Mollen. They have two adult sons.

Lord Ryon’s only son, Lord Wydron, ruled Ironrath for a mere four year after his father’s death. He drank himself to death while trying to hide in the bottle “from all the stress he had to endure”. His widow, Lady Berena of House Umber, who was already a widow at the time of their marriage, did not remarry ever again and remained at Ironrath to serve as a Sentinel and a member of her son’s small council.

Young Lord Robb is the current Lord of Ironrath. He is married to Lady Beth of House Mormont.

The Iron Branch​

The Good old Gregor had two secret bastards. They ceased to be a secret when the Queen dispatched her men beyond the Wall to invite them both into the Realm. They both came and even took some other people with them like little silver-haired Sylvy and her brother Cotter.

After Lord Gregor admitted their existence and his fatherhood, both bastards managed to carve a life for them in the Seven Kingdoms.

Lady Elsera married the Master of Wolfswood, Lord Gallbart of House Glover, the third of his name. She bore him five sons, all of them lived to adulthood. After her untimely death at the age of five-and-thirty Master Gallbart never married again.

Lady Elsera’s twin, Josera, first remained at his father’s household. He married a freefolk girl named Ygrytte, the one “kissed by fire”. She bore him three living sons but unfortunately died at the young age of just six-and-twenty. Her death devastated Josera. He first tried to find death in numerous duels he instigated, but then he received an unexpected and a very untraditional invitation. He agreed and so he became Josera of the Queensguard. He died on active duty at the age of nine-and-fifty in the year 329AC.

His first son, Benfred, was married to Lady Jeyne of House Harclay of Longwatch until his death in the year 324AC. Lady Jeyne then remarried to a lowborn man with a gift of green sight that later drove the poor sod insane.

Josera’s second son, Osric, was married to Mistress Arana of House Karstark of Barbleton until his death in the year 352AC. Mistress Arana later remarried to a man twenty years her younger.

Josera’s third son, Leobald, was granted a castle of Northmark in The Gifts. He was married to a lowborn woman named Mariya until his death in the year 352AC.

Their daughter, Arya, is serving as a keeper in the weirwood grove of Copsetor back in Ironrath.

Leobald's sons, Sers Theonald and Halys, seem to rule Northmark together. They are both married but are yet to have living children.

A minor house that rose with their lieges is House Tuttle.

One of its members, Gared, was elected as a mayor of a newly bould town of Brandonburgh near Winterfell. He was married to Melony of House Poole.

Their daughters all married into houses of varying degree of prominence.

Gared’s son, Jossart, was elected mayor after his father death in the year 329AC. Jossart’s first wife was a woman of a freefolk origins named Beth. After her death Jossart remarried to a lowborn woman named Wylla.

Jossart’s older daughter is married to a lowborn man named Daryn.

His younger one is married to a man coincidentally named Daryn as well, but this Daryn comes from a newly raised House of Hodor.

The House of Hodors​

Let us now finally talk about said House of Hodor.

It was granted its own coat of arms when a man named Walder, a former stable boy from the Stark’s household, was elected as an elder of a newly emerged villare of Whitegate near Winterfell. He was married to a lowborn woman named Morna who was almost as tall and strong as him.

Their only daughter, Aliona, was married to Lord Desmyn of House Fisher of Stony Shore until his death in the year 342AC. She did not remarry.

Master Walder’s younger son. Ser Daryn, was married to Branna of House Tuttle from the nearby town of Brandonburgh. She did not remarry after Ser Daryn’s death.

Their daughter, Lady Berena, did very well for herself. She is married to Lord Alaric of House Stark, the heir to Skagos.

Her brother Desmond is the most likely candidate for the position of elder after the current elder’s death. He is married to a woman named Dacey, the daughter of a prominent late commander of Sea Dragon Point.

Their young daughter Carella is married to lord Arnolf of House Umber, son of a fellow member of House Hodor, Lady Dalonne.

Their older son, Daryn, is married to Lyarra of House Tuttle from Brandonburgh.

The middle child, Edwyn, almost became almost royalty as he was very briefly married to an alleged bastard daughter of a freefolk prince. Unfortunately on her way from her foster home to the Whitegate she spotted a ragged puppy along the road and brought it with her. It proceeded to bite her on her wedding day and sadly young Lyssa died an agonising death. Edwyn remarried five years later to a lowbord woman named Serena.

The current elder of Whitegate is master Jorah, Walder’s older son. He is married to a woman named Benera who came all the way from the Westerlands.

All three of their daughters are doing very well for themselves as they got married into some very prominent houses. Since Master Jorah does not have a son, it is expected that his nephew, Desmond, will take his place when the time comes.

Minor events in The North​

Fiery Horse with Two Rusted Axes and a Stone Hand​

After Lord Dustin was slain in the combat at the tower of joy, his widow, Lady Barbrey of House Ryswell, resented Lord Eddard for his decision to build cairns for the fallen and not bring her husband’s bones back from Dorne. For years she refused to remarry and continued to rule it in her own name.

But finally Lord Roose of House Flint from Flint’s Finger managed to convince her in his sincerity. The pair wed and managed to produce three living sons and a daughter in a rapid succession. After Lady Barbrey’s death Lord Roose remarried to Lady Karella of House Melcolm. They had a son together, but due to the age of both parents the poor child was born with a few unfortunate features. Fortunately though none of them affected his mind so maester Elric has been an invaluable asset to your humble author throughout the whole process of writing this very same book.

The Monster of The Broken Branch​

It all started with the death of Lord Halys of House Hornwood.

His only legitimate son, Lord Daryn, succeeded him as the Lord of The Broken Branch. Everything was relatively normal at first. Lord Daryn was married to a natural daughter of late Lord Brandon of House Stark and the pair had three living children together.

Then a tragedy struck. Lord Daryn was grievously injured on a hunting trip and left bedridden for almost a year. When he finally pulled through he apparently was so disfigured that he had to wear a full mask every hour of every day. His throat was apparently also affected as he did not ever speak and all the orders and rulings seemed to come through the members of his immediate family first. At some point people also started to notice that Lord Daryn appears to be fasting a lot going for days without any sustenance.

But when someone dared to raise some concern they often simply vanished or were dragged to the dungeons where Lord Daryn apparently loved to spend his days and even nights. Things became so unbearable that the subjects of Lord Daryn the Terrible sent a secret messenger to the court of the Queen herself. And the Queen answered.

Lord Daryn was arrested and brought in chains before the Queen who flew on her dragon along with the King and his dragon all the way to the Hornwood hall. The mask was removed from Lord Daryn’s head though it had to be physically torn off of him for it had become a part of his slowly decaying flesh. Lord Daryn’s long-dead eyes sat deep inside their sockets, unmoving, unblinking, unseeing. His mouth was sewn shut to prevent it from opening on its own. The thing was unnatural. Abhorrent. It had to be put down and out of its misery.

So it was done. Lord Daryn’s head was separated from his body and then both parts were burned to ashes on a pyre.

No further arrests were made though because unfortunately it was unclear who was responsible for that atrocity and who even knew about it in the first place.

Content with the fact that the monster was eliminated, the Queen and King left for the capital.

But the nightmare was far from over.

Lord Daryn’s firstborn son and successor, Lord Eyron, had five sons of his own.

His eldest, Lord Roose, succeeded his father as the Lord of the Broken Branch just three years after Lord Daryn’s final death. It would seem that Lord Eyron died in an accident so no foul play was suspected. But then Lord Roose died mere months after his father in what seemed like an even more horrible accident. He was succeeded by his brother, Lord Gawen. Lord Gawen then died a year later from something that looked like a flu.

Lord Daryn, the second of his name, succeeded as Lord of The Broken Branch. For better or worse, he is still alive, but his younger brother, Benfred, died after some stomach pains that he had after a meal.

Lord Daryn is down to one brother who is understandably highly paranoid about this whole situation. While there are no evidence that Lord Daryn is somehow involved, it is worth noting that none of his subjects or family would deny that Lord Daryn is a scheming and dishonest man who could’ve easily resorted to the foul plays to achieve what he deemed to be his by right.

Old Castle Grows Bigger​

I deemed it worth noting that under the rule of Lord Paramount Eddard there were some changes in the political structure of the Northern region of the Realm.

The first one occurred in the Lordship of Oldcstle where the Lords of Oldcastle were granted dominion over two adjusting territories.

North Clans United​

The second change was more prominent. The new province of North Clans was created and the Lords of House Liddle from Pinesend were given the task of governance and mediation between the various northern mountain clans and the Lords of the North.

Was worried a bit there when you said your old laptop was finally out of commission but I'm glad you saved your file, looking forward to the North update!

It gave me a pretty good scare and my fare share of prematurely grey hair, but it turned out that it was the screen that died and most of the USB ports and a part of the keyboard, but not the really important stuff like a hard drive. So I made an abomination from my old laptop, an equally old keyboard I forgot I had and an old screen my friend gave me and I managed to save everything.

As expected, the North thrives, very much so with so many Starks running around, I was chuckling at the amount of kids Robb had with Margaery, then Rickon came along and wow, the lad really ensured the pack grows, his story in taming the Skagosi would be a great tale in this timeline, on par with Robert Arryn's squiring with the legendary Barristan the Bold. Had a bit of a chuckle with how Jorah Mormont's fate was handled too, at least he got a decent life in the end.

I like to think of the North as "the north of Russia gradually changing into Iceland". I've never been to Iceland (yet), but I have been in Russia, and russian woods, especially in winter, is something else. I like to think that for example Wolfswood is like Taiga, it smells and sound so wonderful that you forget that there might be a boar or a bear behind the next tree. And it takes a very unique kind of person to live in taiga, that's for sure XD

I was really surprised when Rickon got Skane as usually I don't see the AI give away their colonies that often and Skane was a colony at that time. I was even more surprised that it went to advanced colony, cause when I give away a colony to a one-holding vassal, they usually fail miserably. When Rickon became lord of Skane, I immediately made Skane a part of Skagos duchy and gave Rickon a claim to boot XD and boy did he deliver. There actually was a very minor rebellion in Skagos (a religious one, I think), but none other that Rickon had rolled over them cause he was and is a commander for the North. And then he proceeded to have his brood.
I am seriously considering writing some one-shots about it all. There is also a couple of people I didn't mention because it's literally just a few random people here and there and not much going on with their families, but they themselves are super cool, like the White Boar in Westerlands or the girl from the Vale serving with faceless men...
