The North​

The North is indeed vast, making up over a third of the total size of the Seven Kingdoms, stretching for over a thousand miles from the Neck to the Wall and almost as far from coast to coast. It is also thinly populated. In the south there may be a few miles between towns and villages, but in the North there may be dozens of miles between points of habitation, and large stretches of forbidding, harsh countryside with no people at all. There are very few highways apart from the Kingsroad and a few other notable arteries linking major holdfasts, which slows travel to a crawl.

Some of the stories are exaggerated. The North is cooler than the rest of Westeros but it is certainly not covered in snow and ice year-around. During long summers, some of the North can be quite pleasant and there is widespread farming. But the North lives in the constant shadow and fear of winter. Food is stockpiled, salted, stored, even frozen where it is possible to do so. Some castles are built near or over hot springs or volcanic vents, employing greenhouses to grow food even in the heart of winter. If the ports stay ice-free and open, food supplies can be brought in from the south and from the Free Cities (for those merchantmen willing to brave the Narrow Sea in winter). But there are limits to all of this: during the coldest and longest winters, the North starves and people die.

The North has been ruled by the Starks House for thousands of years from the castle of Winterfell.

Notable Events in the North​

The Lone Wolf Dies​

The deaths of Lord Rickard Stark, his firstborn son and heir Brandon, and his only daughter Lyanna struck a heavy blow to House Stark. Thankfully Lyanna’s son was saved, but it was strongly believed that Brandon’s blood died with him. But then three of his natural daughters had been found. Two youngest and their lives were covered in the previous chapter on the Riverlands. The oldest, Lady Marna, was found in the North. She was raised at Winterfell and later married the heir of Hornwood. Their marriage will be covered in the upcoming part of the North Chapter.

The Pack Survives and Thrives​

The future of House Stark (and some can argue that of the whole Realm) fell heavy on the shoulders of Lord Eddard Stark. The Quiet Wolf proved to be wholly up to the task and served his House and the Crown until his death in the year 328AC. His body was interred in the Crypts of Winterfell with the greatest honors along with his beloved wife, Lady Catelyn of House Tully.

There Must Always Be a Stark in Winterfell​

Lord Eddard’s eldest, Lord Robb, known later as Ironworded, succeeded his father as Lord Paramount of the North. He was married to the generous Lady Margaery of House Tyrell all the way south in the Reach. It was a loving marriage based on mutual respect and the North prospered even more under their rule.

The pair had six children together, all of them lived to adulthood.

Their oldest daughter, Lady Sybelle, was first supposed to marry the firstborn son of Lord Reed of the Neck, but unfortunately the boy died. Lady Sybelle was then married to the Lord of Barrowlands, Lord Hoster of House Dustin. They had six children, all of them lived to adulthood. Tragically Lord Hoster later had to be beheaded by his own father-in-law.

The second daughter, Lady Alys’s, marriage turned up much happier than her older sister. She is married to Lord of Karhold, Lord Rickard of House Karstark, third of his name. They have seven living children.

The third daughter, Lady Jeyne Strongwolf, is also happily married. She and her husband, Lord Royce the Confessor, Lord of Last Hearth, have five children, all of them still very much alive.

The fourth daughter, Lady Wynafryd, was married to Lord Barhtogan the Bold of White Harbor until his death in the year 358AC. All five of their children are alive and well too.

The youngest daughter, Lady Jocely, finally did what her oldest sister was supposed to do and married Lord Reed of Greywater Watch. Lord Rodrick the Bear and his Cunning Wolf had six children together, all of whom lived to adulthood, but unfortunately their second son died later in life.

Lord Robb’s younger son was given command of Moat Cailin. Commander Medger is married to Lady Alysanne of House Umber. They had four children together, all of whom lived to adulthood, but then the tragedy took their firstborn son (poor Lady Alysanne is drowning her days in all kinds of strong spirits she could find and Commander Medger spends his days in the woods with his wolf, hunting whatever comes into view).

The tragedy that took the son in question, Rickard, involved him clashing with his cousin, Lord Jon, in a heated argument. Both men were known for their short temper, so it was of no surprise that the shouting grew into a duel. It is unknown whether Lord Jon had killed his cousin on purpose or if that was an accident, but Rickard did unfortunately die in that duel. He was married to Lady Tyrene Flint from the Widow’s Watch Flints but they did not have any children. Lady Tyrene later remarried into House Mormont.

Two of poor Rickard’s sister, ladies Mariya and Owella, are both married into prominent families and have children of their own.

The youngest of the bunch, Lord Wydron, married his kinswoman, Lady Jocelyn from the Skagosi branch. He was given the command of the newly created Lordship of the Wall after the dissolution of the Night’s Watch.

After Lord Paramount Robb’s death in the year 351AC, his oldest son, Lord Paramount Eddard, the second of his name, succeeded him as the Warden of the North. He was married to Lady Alysane of House Bolton until her death in the year 356AC. That loss might have pushed the Direwolf of Winterfell over the edge as there are more and more reports of unnecessary cruelty and questionable judgements coming from the North.

Before succumbing to his madness, Lord Paramoung Eddard arranged prestigious marriages for his three daughters: ladies Arrana, Myriame and Alarra.

His youngest son, Lord Edwyn, had been given command of The Shadow Tower in the newly created Lordship of the Wall. He married a strong girl from a very prominent freefolk family and they are expecting their first child.

The middle Stark son is unfortunately already dead. He was taken by an infection of the wound he sustained in sparring match. He was married to Lady Barba of a newly elevated House of Hodor. They had two daughters together. Lady Barba later remarried into House Flint from Flint's FInger.

Lord Paramount Eddard’s heir is the infamous Lord Jon the Kinslayer. He is married to Lady Sabetha of House Umber.

The Wise Wolf of Stony Shore​

The Quiet Wolf’s second son, Lord Brandon, was granted the Lordship of Stony Shore and made the Sea Dragon’s Point his seat. The Wise Wolf was married to Lady Lynarra, bastard-born daughter of the Usurper. After her death in the year 346AC he pledged to remain unremarried. After losing his leg in a hunting accident, Lord Brandon spends most of his free time with his large collection of animal companions.

It is widely assumed that Lord Brandon’s line is blessed by the Old Gods. If one’s to believe that the twins are a blessing from the gods, then that assumption sure is true.

The first pair of twins came to Lord Brandon himself. They were later granted the lordships in the newly created Lordship of The Gifts.

People also say that the middle child is always the most neglected. This is also definitely true in this branch of the Starks.

Lord Theon the Troubadour was always left for his own devices. The only child to be left without a title, he does not seem to mind it that much. He is happily married to Lady Joranna of House Glover and both of their older children seem to be quite happily married as well.

The Wise Wolf’s second son, Lord Benjen, married Lady Melene of House Bolton and was granted a castle of Sea Dragon’s Watch as a wedding gift.

He is the third Stark of Stony Shore to be blessed with twins. Those twin boys married Karstark twin girls and both pairs had twins of their own.

Lord Brandon’s heir is Lord Osric. He is married to Lady Dacey of House Ryswell.

Lord Osric is the second one to be blessed with twins. Both men are married with broods of children of their own.

But it isn’t all blessing that this family receives.

In a misguided attempt to impress his new bride, Lady Ryessa of House Cerwyn, Lord Osric’s third son, Errold, bravely took a swim in the Sunset Sea. Swimming during the first moon of the year proved fatal to young Errold and he died of pneumonia not long after his wedding. Lady Ryessa later remarried into House Cassel.

Lord Osric’s only daughter, poor Lady Mylarra, exhibits signs of a disturbed mind. She is betrothed to young Wyman of House Liddle, but it is yet unknown if the wedding would go through or not.

The Direwolf of Skane​

The Quiet Wolf’s youngest son, Lord Rickon, grew up into a force to be reckoned with. Known for his often violent temper, he took it upon himself to establish a permanent base on the northernmost island of Skane and pacify the unruly Skagosi raiders that up to that time were considered a backward folk, rumored to still perform human sacrifices to weirwoods, lure passing ships to destruction with false lights, and engage in cannibalism during winter and continue the banned tradition of the first night.

Instead he fell in love with and married the daughter of one of those “savages” and united the clans under his banner.

Both of their daughters are happily married.

Lord Eyron, the Skane’s Direwolf’s youngest son, was granted the newly established Lordship of Eastwatch. He married Lady Noshi of the prominent freefolk House of Mossfoot. She actually was brought up at Skane alongside him and adopted both his cultural and religious traditions.

Lord Rickon’s oldest son, Lord Harlon, was married to Lady Cylla of House Umber until her tragic death in the year 355AC. Lady Cylla found an abandoned wolfling not far from the fortress and tried to take the poor thing back with her but got bitten and later died frothing at the mouth. Lord Harlon took this loss very hard and abdicated all his rights to his father’s seat. Their only daughter seems to be relieved by that development as she is extremely shy and does not wish to become the Lady in her own right.

The second son, Ser Robb, is convinced that he would be murdered as soon as he accepts the role of an heir, so he has repeatedly declined the honor.

With his wife, Lady Lyanne of House Manderly, Ser Robb has two daughters.

The older one, Lady Lynara, is quite happily married to Theomore of House Liddle.

The family life of the younger one, Lady Arsa, is much more complicated.

Lady Arsa is married to the Lord of Lonely Hills, Lord Harmond of House Lake. They have a son together. Lady Arsa also has a handmaiden, also named Arsa, whom she considers as her friend. Arsa the Handmaiden also had a son with Lady Arsa’s husband, but the boy was sadly born dead, which devastated Lord Harmond who seems to be genuinely in love with Arsa the Handmaiden. It all seems a bit unusual, but it is not for a celibate maester to judge, so let us just move on.

So the current heir to the Lordship of Skagos is Lord Rickon’s third son, Lord Alaric, a cruel and suspicious man. He is married to Lady Berena from the new House Hodor.

Their daughter is married to her kinsman, the freshly appointed Lord of The Wall, Lord Wydron of House Stark of Moat Cailin.

Lord Alaric’s young heir, Lord Jonos, just married Lady Tallora from a prominent skagosi clan.

It’s Flayed Men, by the Old Gods, It’s Flayed Men​

Let us take a look now at other northern Houses.

The one that got the closest to the ruling House Stark is House Bolton.

Despite his infamous inability to not hold a grudge Lord Roose, the third of his name, served as the master of whispers to the Quiet Wolf until death in the year 328AC, the same one that saw his liege depart from this life as well.

In the North, Your Blades Cut You​

The only grudge that the Leech Lord did not hold was the death of his natural-born son, the infamous bastard Ramsay. After numerous reports about the atrocities he and his Bastard's Boys had committed, Lord Eddard dispatched his men to hunt them all down.

It took some time to find the scattered scum, but in the end they were brought to justice and their reign of terror finally ended.

The Full Sheath​

The Leech Lord’s only legitimate son, Lord Domeric, the second of his name, succeeded his father as the Lord of Dreadfort. He was married to Lady Meera of House Reed. Their tender and loving marriage produced seven children, all of whom lived to adulthrood.

Their oldest daughter, Lady Alysane, became the Lady of Winterfell. Her marriage was already covered earlier in the chapter. Ladies Jonelle, Melene and Bethany are all happily married as well.

Unfortunately some Bolton girls were not so lucky.

Lady Lyanna was married twice. Her first husband, Lord Hallis of House Ashwood of Shepherd’s Hills, was openly unfaithful to her throughout their marriage. When he was found dead there were some talks about Lady Lyanna’s involvement but a man as ruthless and volatile as Lord Hallis never felt a shortage of enemies so all those talks quickly died out without any proof. Lady Lyanna remarried to Warrick of House Liddle, a man quite younger than her. They managed to have a daughter together before poor Warrick’s mind was literally eaten away by a nasty tumour. Poor Lady Lyanna did not remarry after that.

After another Bolton girl’s tragic love life the people started talking about a curse looming over a certain name…

Lady Lyanna had a sister named Lady Lyanne. And she was married three times, and all of them ended in disaster.

Lady Lyanne’s first husband was Lord Roose of House Hornwood of The Broken Branch, but he died in a horrible accident at the age of five-and-twenty, just two months after becoming a Lord.

Lady Lyanne’s second husband was, like her sister’s, quite younger than her. And he too died from a sickness right after his sixteenth nameday.

Unlike her sister, Lady Lyanne decided to try and find that marital bliss one last time. She married master Robett of House Barstark of Harwood’s Hold. They managed to have a son before master Robett died from what looked like an ordinary flu. It was too much for poor Lady Lyanne and she died after three years of extreme grief.

The last child among the seven and the only son and that, Lord Theonald succeeded his father in the year 348AC. He is married to Lady Syrona of House Karstark.

Two of their oldest sons seem to be almost complete opposites of each other.

Belthasar, the heir, embodies almost all of the stereotypes held against House Bolton. He is also married waaay above his station as his wife, Princess Sygarda, is the daughter of King Karlon from Beyond the Wall.

Lord Edric of Ethering, the second son, is rumored to be highly suspicious or even borderline paranoid about his older brother. Given the fact that Belthasar is known to be very greedy and possessive, Lord Edric might have some solid ground for his fears.

Fifty Shades of Grey Water​

Another House that bonded with the Starks by blood is House Reed.

Lord Howland, the Mystic of The Neck, was Lord Eddard’s life-long friend and supporter. It is now known that he had a major influence on the Quiet Wolf’s decision to stage The Coup and reveal the true identity of our believer King Jon.

Howland Reed – Lord of the Crannogs

The account on life and marriage of Lord Howland’s oldest daughter, Lady Meera, can be found in the previous part of this chapter.

His younger daughter, lady Lysa, was married to the brilliant commander of Gatehouse Tower, lord Areo of House Flint from Flint’s Finger.

Unfortunately Lord Howland’s youngest son, Halys, was taken by sickness at the age of just twenty years. He was married to lady Bethany of the same House Flint. She later remarried to Lord Donnel of Silvereed.

Lord Jojen, the third of his name, succeeded his father as Lord of the Neck in the year 331AC. He was married to Lady Jorelle of House Mormont until his own death in the year 339AC.

Unfortunately their daughters were quite unlucky in their marriages.

Lady Berena was married to Ser Willam of House Waxley. He was notoriously unfaithful and finally died from a brothel disease that ate all of his dignity and mind. Lady Berena came back to The Neck, never remarried and is quite happy to serve as her brother’s commander.

Another daughter, Lady Jessamyn, was first married to Jorah of House Liddle (the father of that same poor Warrick, Lady Lyanna Bolton’s second husband). Jorah was supposed to be a man whose wits were as strong as his arms if only he didn’t lose a grip on reality at the most unexpected of times. It is rumored that he was somehow responsible for the death of his first wife, but nothing had been proven and Jorah took everything he knew with him to the afterlife when one of his own fits brought about his demise. Lady Jessamyn later remarried Rickon of House Knott, a man-at-arms at the household of the King himself.

Lord Jojen’s sons are doing marginally better.

His youngest son, lord Walton, was born a twin, but his sister was unfortunately born dead. He is married to lady Marna of House Flint from Flint’s Finger. Their son, Willam, is married to lady Cyrelle from the same House.

Lord Jojen’s second son, master Wendel, was granted his own household of Reedhall. He is married to lady Owella of House Poole.

Unfortunately the gods were not kind to the pair’s children as two of them died of sickness and the oldest seems to be losing her grip on reality. The current heir to the Reedhall is master Wendel’s older brother and liege.

Lord Roderick seems to be the most gods-favoured of the bunch. On the other hand, he did lose his hand while wrestling with his own bear that he got his nickname after, so there is also that.

The Bear of Greywater Watch is married to the Cunning Wolf of the Starks, Lady Jocelyn. They had six children together, although their second son’s story truly is a tragic one.

Fortunately all of their daughters are happily married with healthy children of their own.

Their youngest son, Ronnel, also seems to thrive, as well as their heir, Theonald.

So it was their second, Harrion, and his family who felt the unpredictable wrath of faith.

Harrion was married to lady Raya of House Locke. The genuine love and affection between the two was noted by everyone around them. They loved and cherished each other as well as their son, Henley. It all went straight downhill when their second son, poor little Eyron, was born dead in the year 354AC. His father’s broken heart gave up a year later. In her enormous grief, the bereft lady Raya disappeared one day from their chambers at Greywater and was later seen on the Bridge of Skulls all the way near the Westwatch-by-the-Bridge. Reports then say that she closed her eyes, opened her arms, smiled and threw herself into the darkness of the Gorge.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms​

Let us recover from the morbid tales of love and loss and take a look at yet another House that prospered in recent times.

Under its formidable leader, Lady Maege, Bear Island and House Mormont were finally recognised as being on par with such Houses as Glovers, Ryswells, Dustins, Liddles, Boltons, Umbers, Karstarks, Hornwoods, Manderlys, Lockes and Reeds.

Lady Maege also arranged the most prestigious marriages for her daughters.

Her youngest, Lyanna, was married to the Master of Wolfswood, Lord Damon of House Glover.

Lady Lyra was married to Jon Smalljon of House Umber, Lord of Last Hearth. They sure made quite the power couple.

And finally Lady Maege’s heir and successor, Lady Dacey, was married to one the most prominent freefolk commanders, lord Toregg the Tall, who renounced his family name for hers (probably because freefolk do not really follow any tradition of family names in the first place).

GAME OF THRONES - ALYSANE MORMONT by Paolo Puggioni

Their only daughter, Lady Berena, was married to Lord Royce of House Ryswell until his death in the year 342AC at the age of just nine-and-twenty. Lady Berena never remarried and remains in the Rills as a member of her son’s small council.

Lady Dacey’s youngest son, lord Walder, is married to lady Branna of House Dustin. Their son, also named Walder, is married to lady Alys of House Fisher.

Lady Dacey’s third son, ser Galbart Strongbear, was married to lady Donella of House Moss until his death in the year 357AC. Their only son, ser Joseth, is married to lady Tyrene Burley, but they do not have any children together yet. Ser Joseth though does have a son who he claims he beget on a bear in the woods, a deed that got him his nickname. Ser Ramsay, for the story of his birth called the Bear, was not recognised as a full member of House Mormont. He proceeded to run away at a young age and then came back with a wife who claims to be a princess to the last free freefolk kingdom. Everyone on Bear Island seems to just roll with it so we will too.

Lady Dacey’s second son, lord Benjen, was married to lady Donella of House Wells until his death in the year 356AC.

Their only daughter married Edwyle of House Knott, but somewhere down the road she became and openly known mistress to her husband’s own brother, Lord Benfred of Arrendell, and bore him a bastard son.

After Lady Dacey’s death she was succeeded by her firstborn son, Lord Brandon. He was married to Lady Owella of House Forrester, but he also had a “bearcub” of his own as well as a more problematic bastard that had Lord Brandon executed by his liege Lord. There are still some that express doubts whether he deserved it or not.

The bastard in question is named Jonos. He was born to Lord Brandon and lady Jonelle of House Dustin, a lawful wife of one of Lord Brandon’s kinsmen. Jonos was not recognised as a full member of House Mormont nor House Dustin. He combined the names and shields of both houses and made his own. He just got married to Arya of House Erkin, themselves a bastard branch of House Hornwood.

Lord Brandon’s only daughter is legitimate. Lady Barbrey was born a twin, but her brother was unfortunately born dead. She is married to ser Wynton of House Cassel.

Another legitimate child of Lord Brandon is Walton. He is married to lady Alysane of House Flint from the Mountains.

The less problematic bastard is ser Bennard. A tradition emerged for those kids to be called bearcubs, so he grew up to be Ser Bennard the Bear. He was actually recognised as a full member of House Mormont, a move that greatly upset Lord Brandon’s wife and was later used against him at the court. Ser Bennard is married to lady Jorelle of House Cerwyn.

Their son is married to lady Marna of House Liddle. They already have four children.

Both ser Bennard’s daughters are married into proper northmen Houses.

Lord Brandon’s second son, lord Ethan, went the same road as his father before him. He is married to lady Alanna of House Moss and has a legitimate daughter by her, but he also has a natural “cub” named Jorah.

After Lord Brandon’s execution, his firstborn son, Lord Harmond, became the Lord of Bear Island. He is married to Lady Sylvi from a parallel branch of his own House. He seems to steer clear from any inappropriate relations with bears as of yet. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that his wife literally has a bear as a constant companion as well as a wolf. Or maybe he just genuinely loves his wife for a change.

The Wood Foot Bears​

The aforementioned parallel branch actually was considered a main one before Lord Jeor abdicated his seat in favor of his son who then proceeded to get himself exiled.

Lord Jeor then became Lord Commander of the Night's Watch and died on his duty in the year 308AC.

His disgraced son Jorah was later found in Essos and a pardon was negotiated and pleaded by the Queen herself. Ser Jorah came back with a silver-haired wife in tow which made the Queen chuckle for some reason. The pair was permitted to return to Bear Island if they wished which they eventually did.

Ser Jorah was eventually granted a fortress of Woodfoot Watch and relocated there with his family.

His only daughter was married to Master Jormyn of House Cassel of King’s Course until his execution by his liege in the year 349AC.

The second son, Joron, was married to lady Robyn of House Ryswell until her death in the year 350AC. There was a rumor about a lowborn girl who claimed that Joron actually married her before he died, but my sources unfortunately could not find the girl in question or any documents related to the marriage.

Joron’s son, Ser Jorah, is technically married to that same lady Jonelle Dustin that bore a bastard from Lord Brandon. It was Jorah that accused Lord Brandon of raping his wife and demanded a trial that resulted in Lord Brandon’s execution. Although people who knew Lord Brandon all agree that he was kind and temperate person and it would have been extremely out of character for him to rape anybody. But Ser Jorah had witnesses and lady Jonelle chimed in with tears and wailing so the deed was done. Ser Jorah later left Bear Island and was last seen among the mercenaries of The Bright Banners company. Lady Jonelle did not accompany him and stayed on Bear Island with her children.

Ser Jorah and lady Jonelle have one legitimate son together. Ser Rogar is married to Lady Tyrene of House Flint from Widow’s Watch, herself the widow of ill-fated Rickard Stark of Moat Cailin.

Master Alton became the head of the Woodfoot branch after his father’s death in the year 311AC. He was married twice. His first wife, lady Sylene of House Forrester, died of pneumonia at the age of one-and-thirty. Master Alton later remarried to lady Melene of House Flint from the Mountains. She is in mourning since his death in the year 355AC.

Master Alton’s daughter, Lady Sylvi, is the current Lady of Bear Island.

His other daughter, Malerra, was married to Lord Robard of House Stout of Goldgrass until her rather suspicious death at the age of just eight-and-twenty. Lord Robard soon remarried to Lady Arya of House Umber, a widow to one of the Hornwood brothers.

Master Benjicot is the current head of the branch. He is married to mistress Sylene of House Ryswell. He also has a “bearcub” daughter.

The Road to Hells is Paved with Good Intentions​

During the reign of our beloved Queen, some houses seemed inspired to better themselves and work through their differences with other houses. One of such examples is House Forrester.

Lord Gregor made some mistakes and kept some secrets, but in the end his subjects and family remember him as Gregor the Good.

He organised the marriage for his oldest legitimate daughter, Lady Mira, with Lord Durin of House Woolfield of Ramsgate, when both were very young. He unfortunately could not have foreseen what a man Lord Durin would become. Fortunately his love of drink brought with it a disease that ate away his intestines and he died at the age of just five-and-thirty. His widow then ran as far away as the Vale and married good-natured Ser Orton of House Pryor. After her death Ser Orton remarried, but his second wife also unfortunately died.

Lady Talia’s married life wasn’t much better. She was married to Master Benfred of House Tallhart of Torrhen’s Square. His body proved much more resilient and he didn’t die until the age of two-and-sixty so poor Talia had to endure his cruelty and rudeness for almost entirety of her adult life.

Lord Gregor’s third legitimate son, Ethan, was married to lady Sylvi, a silver-haired girl that was brought from beyond the Wall by Ethan’s bastard siblings.

Their daughters were both married into prominent houses. Lady Sylene unfortunately died at a relatively young age of one-and-thirty, but lady Sabetha is still alive and even serves at her liege’s small council.

Lord Gregor’s second legitimate son, Asher, made a lot of mistakes as well. He eloped with lady Gwyn, a girl from a rival House Whitehill and married her without her family’s consent. After they were found, their daughter was sent to the Ironrath, lady Gwyn was sent home and Asher was sent to the Wall. He managed to become a commander of Brandon’s Gift and then blew it all by not only meeting with his beloved Gwyn, but also getting her with child. For his transgression he was sadly executed by Lord Commander Benjen. Lady Gwyn never married.

Their daughter, lady Owella, was married to Lord Brandon, that same Husband to Bears from House Mormont of Bear Island. Their marriage is covered in the appropriate previous part of this chapter.

The son, Ser Jon, was declared as also legitimate, left the Ironrath to serve as a mercenary in The Ragged Standard company. The only three times that news from him came back were two deliveries of living, breathing sons that the notes attached to them claimed to be born in wedlock, and a delivery of his own lifeless body in the year 355AC.

Interestingly enough, the younger of the two sons willingly left to serve in then-functioning Night’s Watch “to redeem the sins of his grandfather”. The older son is married and currently resides at the seat of his grandmother’s House.

Lord Gregor was succeeded by his oldest legitimate son, Lord Rodrick. He was married to Lady Elaena of House Glenmore. Their very loving marriage produced only two children.

Their daughter, lady Cymoril, was married to Ser Edwald of House Wells until his death at the age of eight-and-thirty. Lady Cymoril never remarried.

Lord Rodrick’s only son, Lord Hothor, succeeded his father in the year 330AC. He was married to Lady Mariah of that same House Whitehill. This marriage was supposed to be different though. With this marriage Lord Hothor tried to mend the feud that had been going on between their houses for far too long. But sadly it was not meant to be. It is widely speculated that Lord Hothor’s and Lady Mariah’s deaths had something to do with the Whitehills. The fact that poor Lord Hothor seemed to suffer from every ailment imaginable, even those that he, a king and loving husband, could not possibly had contracted, seems highly suspicious. But nothing had ever been proven.

Lord Hothor and Lady Mariah only had daughters and all of them were married off to different families.

That’s why Lord Hothor’s youngest uncle, Lord Ryon, was the one who succeeded him. He was married to Lady Jenna of a minor House Tuttle.

Their daughter, lady Arra, is married to Jossart of House Mollen. They have two adult sons.

Lord Ryon’s only son, Lord Wydron, ruled Ironrath for a mere four year after his father’s death. He drank himself to death while trying to hide in the bottle “from all the stress he had to endure”. His widow, Lady Berena of House Umber, who was already a widow at the time of their marriage, did not remarry ever again and remained at Ironrath to serve as a Sentinel and a member of her son’s small council.

Young Lord Robb is the current Lord of Ironrath. He is married to Lady Beth of House Mormont.

The Iron Branch​

The Good old Gregor had two secret bastards. They ceased to be a secret when the Queen dispatched her men beyond the Wall to invite them both into the Realm. They both came and even took some other people with them like little silver-haired Sylvy and her brother Cotter.

After Lord Gregor admitted their existence and his fatherhood, both bastards managed to carve a life for them in the Seven Kingdoms.

Lady Elsera married the Master of Wolfswood, Lord Gallbart of House Glover, the third of his name. She bore him five sons, all of them lived to adulthood. After her untimely death at the age of five-and-thirty Master Gallbart never married again.

Lady Elsera’s twin, Josera, first remained at his father’s household. He married a freefolk girl named Ygrytte, the one “kissed by fire”. She bore him three living sons but unfortunately died at the young age of just six-and-twenty. Her death devastated Josera. He first tried to find death in numerous duels he instigated, but then he received an unexpected and a very untraditional invitation. He agreed and so he became Josera of the Queensguard. He died on active duty at the age of nine-and-fifty in the year 329AC.

His first son, Benfred, was married to Lady Jeyne of House Harclay of Longwatch until his death in the year 324AC. Lady Jeyne then remarried to a lowborn man with a gift of green sight that later drove the poor sod insane.

Josera’s second son, Osric, was married to Mistress Arana of House Karstark of Barbleton until his death in the year 352AC. Mistress Arana later remarried to a man twenty years her younger.

Josera’s third son, Leobald, was granted a castle of Northmark in The Gifts. He was married to a lowborn woman named Mariya until his death in the year 352AC.

Their daughter, Arya, is serving as a keeper in the weirwood grove of Copsetor back in Ironrath.

Leobald's sons, Sers Theonald and Halys, seem to rule Northmark together. They are both married but are yet to have living children.

A minor house that rose with their lieges is House Tuttle.

One of its members, Gared, was elected as a mayor of a newly bould town of Brandonburgh near Winterfell. He was married to Melony of House Poole.

Their daughters all married into houses of varying degree of prominence.

Gared’s son, Jossart, was elected mayor after his father death in the year 329AC. Jossart’s first wife was a woman of a freefolk origins named Beth. After her death Jossart remarried to a lowborn woman named Wylla.

Jossart’s older daughter is married to a lowborn man named Daryn.

His younger one is married to a man coincidentally named Daryn as well, but this Daryn comes from a newly raised House of Hodor.

The House of Hodors​

Let us now finally talk about said House of Hodor.

It was granted its own coat of arms when a man named Walder, a former stable boy from the Stark’s household, was elected as an elder of a newly emerged villare of Whitegate near Winterfell. He was married to a lowborn woman named Morna who was almost as tall and strong as him.

Their only daughter, Aliona, was married to Lord Desmyn of House Fisher of Stony Shore until his death in the year 342AC. She did not remarry.

Master Walder’s younger son. Ser Daryn, was married to Branna of House Tuttle from the nearby town of Brandonburgh. She did not remarry after Ser Daryn’s death.

Their daughter, Lady Berena, did very well for herself. She is married to Lord Alaric of House Stark, the heir to Skagos.

Her brother Desmond is the most likely candidate for the position of elder after the current elder’s death. He is married to a woman named Dacey, the daughter of a prominent late commander of Sea Dragon Point.

Their young daughter Carella is married to lord Arnolf of House Umber, son of a fellow member of House Hodor, Lady Dalonne.

Their older son, Daryn, is married to Lyarra of House Tuttle from Brandonburgh.

The middle child, Edwyn, almost became almost royalty as he was very briefly married to an alleged bastard daughter of a freefolk prince. Unfortunately on her way from her foster home to the Whitegate she spotted a ragged puppy along the road and brought it with her. It proceeded to bite her on her wedding day and sadly young Lyssa died an agonising death. Edwyn remarried five years later to a lowbord woman named Serena.

The current elder of Whitegate is master Jorah, Walder’s older son. He is married to a woman named Benera who came all the way from the Westerlands.

All three of their daughters are doing very well for themselves as they got married into some very prominent houses. Since Master Jorah does not have a son, it is expected that his nephew, Desmond, will take his place when the time comes.

The Sons of Winter​

Lord Rickard, the first of his name, Lord of Karhold, died peacefully at the age of fifty in the year 297AC.

His only daughter, lady Alys, died at the age of seven-and-fifty from what seems to be some kind of food poisoning. It is rumored though that she had actually drank the actual poison to escape the debilitating pain that her tumorous body was giving her. Lady Alys’ husband remarried quickly after her death and died just five years after his first wife. His second wife, lady Sybelle of House Branch, remarried to a freefolk man ten years younger than her.

Lord Rickard’s youngest son, master Torrhen of Greycliff Tower, is surprisingly still alive despite his very respectful age and not-so-respectful habit that he developed after the very questionable manner of death of his wife, lady Branda of House Umber.

Their oldest daughter unfortunately died even earlier than her mother. Her official cause of death is stated as food poisoning, but the same tongues that speculate about lady Alys are whispering that poor lady Sarra was prone to extreme melancholia and might have found an inspiration in her aunt’s actions. Lady Sarra’ husband, Lord Donnel of King’s Grove, remarried to lady Branna of House Norrey, herself a widow. He also has a bastard daughter from one of his maids.

Master Torrhen’s younger daughter’s life is the complete opposite to that of her poor sister. Lady Sylene is very happily married to Lord Arthor of House Lightfoot of Weeping Bay.

Lady Sylene’s twin, Ser Daryn, is married to lady Jonella of House Hornwood.

Their daughter, lady Myrianne, is married to Jygerrik of House Magnar, the heir of Kingshouse.

Master Torrhen’s heir is Jormin, an impressive man of many virtues. He is married to lady Orenna of House Poole.

Their son, Torrhen, is married to lady Alanna of House Ironsmith.

His sister, lady Mylarra, is married to her kinsman Jon, the heir of Barbleton.

The first master of Barbleton was master Eddard, the second son of Lord Rickard of Karhold. He was married to lady Barbrey of House Dustin until his very untimely death at the age of just two-and-twenty. Poor lady Barbrey then remarried to the Lord of Crow’s Edge as his second wife, only to relive the same horror all over again and then witness as her only living son withered away by some unseen malady.

Master Eddard and lady Bardrey’s only daughter, mistress Arrana, succeeded her father when she was just a child and still holds the castle to this very day. Her first husband was master Osric, son of Josera the Kingsguard. The pair had three children together. After master Osric’s death, mistress Arrana remarried to a man twenty years her younger.

Mistress Arrana’s eldest daughter, Cyrelle, came back home to Barbleton after the death of her own husband, Rogar of House Lightfoot.

The younger daughter, Mariya, became involved with an upstart man with an unknown fatherhood that was tasked with the development of the Roadsend village in the New Gift. After his death she met an honorable Ser Hallis, the knight from House Mollen, and settled down with his family.

The current heir of Barbleton is the aforementioned Jon, mistress’ Arrana only son.

After Lord Rickard of Karhold’s death his oldest son succeeded him. Lord Harrion the Hunter was married to Lady Alysane the She-Bear of House Mormont.

A kind and honorable man, he saw his wife’s “bearcub” Maege as his own and organized her marriage to a prominent nortman lord himself. Despite some rumors about Lord Beron’s “inclinations”, the pair produced two healthy sons. One of them is the current Lord of Blue Hills.

Lord Harrion and Lady Alysane’s legitimate daughter were also married into prominent northern families.

The older one, lady Beth, was married to Hoarfrost of House Flint (of Widow’s Watch) until his death at the age of eight-and-forty. It was speculated that the pair’s son, Robin, was actually a product of adultery between lady Beth and Hoarfrost’s brother, Lord Wydron, and that was the reason for the big fight between brothers that forced Hoarfrost to go into exile and serve as a mercenary with The Bright Banners. But nothing was proven and Hoarfrost was known for his fiery temper and love for loose women and boisterous antics, so he most probably just left on his own volition.

Lady Beth’s younger sister, lady Alysanne, is much more lucky. She is happily married to the heir to the North Clans, lord Arnolf of House Liddle. None of their five children has any ill reputation.

After Lord Harrion’s death his only son, Lord Rickard, the second of his name, became the Lord of Karhold. He is married to Lady Alys of House Stark.

All of their daughters are married into the most prominent families of the North.

Lady Syrona, the oldest, is married to Lord Theonald of House Bolton, the Knight of Dreadfort.

The twins, Ladies Jonella and Sara, are married to the other pair of twins, Lord Cley and Eddard of House Stark (of Stony Shore branch).

The youngest sons are also married to the ladies of prominent northern houses.

Lord Rickard’s second son, Ser Harrion, is currently serving as a Commander to Lord Paramount Aegon the Bladesman of House Blackfyre and resides in the Widow’s Tower of Harrenhal with his wife, Lady Robyn of House Umber, and their two younger children.

Their oldest child, Lady Arra, went back to Karhold to be wed to her cousin Rodrik, son of lord Byam.

Lord Byam is the oldest son of Lord Rickard and the current heir of Karhold. He is married to Lady Bethany of House Bolton.

The pair's other child, young lady Mariya, recently eloped with her lover Iric, member of House Crowl from the Skagosi island of Deepdown.

The Roaring Giants​

Lord Greatjon of House Umber of Last Hearth died peacefully in the year 302AC at the age of fifty.

Both of his daughters were married into respected northern Houses.

Lord Greatjon of House Umber also had two brothers.


Lord Harmond of Last River was the first to die.

And it so happened that his only child was a daughter of just two years of age.

So it was decided that the lordship of Last River would go to Lord Greatjon’s second son, Lord Eddard. His first wife, Lady Tara from a minor House of Morcant, was later condemned by Lord Eddard’s brother and liege, Lord Smalljon of Last Hearth, and executed in a very disturbing manner. Lord Eddard later remarried to a rather grim-looking lowborn woman named Aza.

Lord Eddard’s daughters all married into respectable northern Houses of varied promonency.

His only son, Lord Medger, is the current Lord of Last River. He is married to Lady Melene of House Wells.

Their oldest daughter is married to Rickard of House Glover.

Lord Greatjon’s brother Osric of Seal Shore died in the year 311AC without an issue.

His lordship went to Lord Greatjon’s youngest son, Lord Brandon. He was married to lady Catelyn of House Burley.

All of their daughters were or are married with a varied degree of success.

Lord Brandon’s only son, Lord Bowen, is the current lord of Seal Shore. He was married to lady Jonna of House Magnar from Skagosi Islands until her gruesome death on the order of Lord Brandon’s kinsman and liege, Lord Royce of Last Hearth, an ordeal suspiciously similar to that of Lady Tara, the first wife of Lord Eddard of Last River. After her death Lord Bowen remains unmarried.

Both of his daughters are married into House Stark.

Lord Bowen’s only son and heir is lord Benton. He is married to lady Jonella of House Mollen.

After the death of Lord Greatjon, his oldest son, Lord Smalljon, became the Lord of Last Hearth. He was married to Lady Lyra of House Mormont, the Bear of Last Hearth.

All of their daughters married into prestigious (and very prestigious) northern Houses.

After Lord Smalljon’s death his only son, the current Lord Royce of Last Hearth, succeeded him. He is married to Lady Jeyne the Strongwolf of House Stark. For his fervent belief in the Old Gods Lord Royce became known as the Confessor.

Both of their daughters are married into prominent northern Houses.

Their youngest son Torren, in married to lady Dalonne of the minor House Hodor.

Their oldest son Cley recently married Lady Ryessa of House Glover, daughter of Lord Leobald the Beast Tamer of Wolfswood.

Cley’s brother Arnolf is also married. His wife Carella comes from the same House Hodor as Cley’s mother, lady Dalonne.

Confessor’s second son, Ser Joron, is serving as master-at-arms to his father. He is also the bearer of the ancestors’ greatsword, the Giant. Ser Joron is married to lady Sansa of minor House Morcant.

Their older daughter is married to lord Alyn of House Stark, the heir to The Gifts.

The current heir of Last Hearth is the most imposing lord Robin. He is married to lady Meera of Ruddy Hall.

Their older daughter is married to Ser Edric of House Stark (of the Stony Shore).

The Flare Mares​

Lord Rodrik of House Ryswell, the second of his name, Lord of The Rills, died at the age of two-and-seventy. A common saying of that time was that Lord Rodrir was just too lazy to die. His second wife, Lady Sarra of an unknown parentage, who was also unnervingly younger than him, took a vow to grieve for her late husband until her dying breath.

Lord Rodrik’s oldest daughter Lady Bethany’s life was covered in the previous Chapter on House Bolton. The story of his second, Lady Barbrey, will be covered later in a subchapter to this one.


So let us have a moment to talk about Lord Rodrik’s youngest daughter, poor lady Lysa. She was married to the late Lord Matthius of House Waterman, Lord of White Firth, until his tragic death in a hunting accident. That loss was quickly followed by the death of their only daughter just three years after.

But fate was not done with this family. Handsome young Lord Benjen, a promising young lad, died at the age of just four-and-ten shortly after being horribly mangled in a freak accident. His younger brother, now Lord Jossart succeeded him only to die himself at the age of just eight-and-ten in a trial by combat against his own kinsman who then fell on his sword and died that same day as well. Lord Jossart’s only living child, a daughter, is the current Lady of White Firth. She is rather understandably paranoid about this whole situation and often hides in her chambers for months and just sits there and eats, an arrangement that resulted in poor Lady’s joints becoming painfully swollen. All that loss and misery understandably drove her grandmother Lysa to a state of pitiful madness and manifested itself in sores all over her body.

But let us now look at late Lord Rodrik’s sons.

His youngest was the first to die. He died about five years into his childless marriage to Lady Bethany of House Dustin. She then remarried to Lord Rodrik’s oldest son and heir, future Lord Rickard the Unworthy and their union will be talked about later in this Chapter.

Lord Rodrik’s second son Roger was married twice, but the name of his first wife is lost and the second one’s claim of a marriage is called into question so we will just skip this whole mess altogether and move on to Roger’s daughters who all married into prominent families with various degrees of success.

And now let us talk about the Lazy Lord’s heir, Lord Rickard the Unworthy who succeeded his father in the year 306AC and sloppily ruled The Rills for sixteen years. He married quite late and when he finally did it was to his own brother’s widow, Lady Bethany of House Dustin. It was rumored that he coveted her for years and finally managed to free her for himself by gifting his brother a new hunting dog that turned out to be rabid and ultimately brought his demise.

Despite their rather questionable start, the pair had three sons together.

Benton, their youngest, was married to lady Sabetha of House Forrester until his death at the age of four-and-forty. His widow never remarried and stays in the Rills with her own son Desmond. He is married to a lowborn woman named Gilliane and has a daughter by her.

Desmond’s sister Silvy is married to Joseth of House Glover as his second wife.

Lord Rickard’s second son Rodrik was married to lady Dacey of House Wull. After his death at the age of seven-and-thirty she came back to her House’s seat in Crow’s Edge to help Lord Benton, her young nephew, with his newfound lordly responsibilities. She also remarried to a lowborn man named Henly who is serving as Lord Benton’s justiciar. The pair has a son who is considered a rightful member of House Wull.

Rodrik and Dacey’s only daughter Wynafryd is married to Ser Mallador of House Tallhart as his second wife and they seem to be an almost perfect match for each other.

Wynafryd’s brother Donald also thought that he had found his soulmate in a pretty lowborn girl named Branna, but for some reason the young couple was absolutely convinced that Donald’s family would not approve so they did what seemed best to their teenage minds - they eloped, fled to White Harbor, snuck on a merchant ship bound for Braavos and ended up in the Braavosi Marshes. It is unclear whether their fears were actually justified or there were some other forces at play, but poor Branna very suspiciously died just two years later. Donald then rather hastily remarried to a braavosi girl named Leresa and had a son by her, but died himself just ten years after his first wife under the circumstances that raised even more questions. His widow Leresa then was left to fend for herself, but her health rapidly deteriorated and she died within a year. Their son Joseth was left an orphan and was essentially raised by the streets where he grew up to consider himself a braavosi and revere the moonsingers.

It became apparent that Donald's family was actually totally unaware of his fate and did not even know about poor little Joseth’s existence prior to this research. The boy has now been found and brought back to The Rills where he is trying to adjust to his new life. He was taken into the household of his uncle Rickard, the late Donald’s older brother, and his wife Sybelle.

Their own son Reynard is all grown up and had recently married lady Lyanne of House Stark (of Stony Shore). Lady Lyanne is already a widow by virtue of being very briefly married to Ser Duncan of House Flint (of the Mountains). That marriage was an attempt to subdue lady Lyanne’s fiery temper but it failed rather miserably when old Ser Duncan died in a drunken accident at their wedding feast. It would seem that Reynard’s gentle nature is proving to be a much more efficient countermeasure than Ser Duncan’s drunken escapades could have ever been.

Lord Rickard the Unworthy died in the year 322AC at the age of three-and-sixty and was succeeded by his oldest son, Lord Royce, but he tragically died from an inflammation of his lungs. He was married to Lady Berena of House Mormont who dedicated herself to her children, never remarried and still remains in The Rills as part of the small council.

Lord Royce and Lady Berena had two daughters and one son.

Their older daughter, lady Dacey, is married to lord Osric of House Stark (of Stony Shore). She is the grandmother of the aforementioned lady Lyanne through her middle son.

Lord Royce and Lady Berena’s younger daughter, Cyrelle, was briefly married to Ser Brandon of House Locke until his miserable death at the age of just three-and-twenty. Cyrelle later remarried to a lowborn man named Edderion and they live quietly at the court of Cyrelle’s late husband’s brother.

The current Lord of The Rills is Lord Lothor, Lord Royce and Lady Berena’s only son. Though not that young anymore, he is still known as the Young Lord due to his succession at a very young age. He is married to Lady Arrana of the ruling branch of House Stark.

Their son Mark is also married to a Stark, although lady Mariya is from the Stony Shore pack.

Minor events in The North​

Fiery Horse with Two Rusted Axes and a Stone Hand​

After Lord Dustin was slain in the combat at the tower of joy, his widow, Lady Barbrey of House Ryswell, resented Lord Eddard for his decision to build cairns for the fallen and not bring her husband’s bones back from Dorne. For years she refused to remarry and continued to rule it in her own name.

But finally Lord Roose of House Flint from Flint’s Finger managed to convince her in his sincerity. The pair wed and managed to produce three living sons and a daughter in a rapid succession. After Lady Barbrey’s death Lord Roose remarried to Lady Karella of House Melcolm. They had a son together, but due to the age of both parents the poor child was born with a few unfortunate features. Fortunately though none of them affected his mind so maester Elric has been an invaluable asset to your humble author throughout the whole process of writing this very same book.

When the Dust Settled​

After Lady Barbrey’s marriage the Lordship of Barrowlands returned to the House of Dustin. It has been in their hands since then and with this amount of children it doesn’t seem to be in any immediate danger of going to anyone else.

The new Lord of Barrowlands after the famous Lady Dustin was Lord Jon the Just. He Was married twice before his death at the venerable age of two-and-seventy. While the name and family of his first wife is missing from the archives, his second one was Lady Alinor of House Footly, all the way from the Reach. After Lord Jon’s death she left the North for it’s complete opposite and became the second wife of Lord Myles of Blackmont. Poor Lord Myles though never could forget the gruesome way his first wife died so he spent his days drowning his memories in wine. Ultimately he succeeded as there is no more certain way to forget than to die. Lady Alinor lingered in grieving agony for almost seven years and finally followed her husbands into oblivion at the age of fifty.

Lord Jon had three daughters and three sons.

His eldest, lady Barbrey, was briefly married to lord Eddard of House Karstark, Master of Barbleton castle until his very suspicious death at the age of just two-and-twenty. Poor lady Barbrey then remarried to Lord Beron of Crow’s Edge as his second wife but ultimately her new husband ended up the same as her first. Lady Barbrey herself was never a suspect though and died from a tumor at the age of four-and-sixty.

Lord Jon’s middle daughter, lady Ryessa, married Master Ofgar of House Dormond, an upjump minor noble that was granted a newly-built tower of Elkstone near Moat Cailin.

The youngest daughter, lady Sylene, was married to Lord Jossart of House Waterman, Lord of White Firth, until his very unfortunate death in a trial by combat. She later remarried to a lowborn man named Reyard and resides at the court of her daughter, the current Lady of White Firth, where she often rules as a regent despite being considered by many to be very much mad for her dabblings with the occult.

Lord Jon’s youngest son Owen is married to lady Aliona of House Blackmyre. The pair currently reside at the castle of Barbleton with Mistress Arrana of House Karstark, who is technically Owen’s niece despite the fact that she is much older than him.

The middle son, Ser Ethan, unfortunately died at the age of just six-and-twenty. Maesters were baffled as to why his body just gave up all of a sudden for he did not exhibit any health related concerns whatsoever, but there was also no evidence of any foul play, so his tragic death was finally proclaimed to be a result “of poor health”. His wife, lady Branna of House Lake, was so devastated that no one has seen her sober ever since.

The pair’s only daughter Jessamyn was married to Ser Wallace of House Sunderland until his death from a gout at the age of two-and-forty. She did not remarry.

Lord Jon’s oldest son and heir unfortunately died before his lord father. Lord Denys was married twice. His first wife, lady Marna of House Stout, very mysteriously died at the age of eight-and-thirty. Lord Denys then remarried to lady Alysanne of House Woolfield who is now his widow.

Lord Denys had four living daughters and one son.

His eldest, lady Lyanne (with an E), was first married to Ser Morton of House Sunderland until his death at the age of five-and-thirty. She then remarried to a lowborn wandering scholar named Robard. Their son Harlon is currently serving at the court in Stony Shore. Lady Lyanne also is the mother of Ser Wallace of House Sunderland, the husband to the aforementioned Jessamyn, and probably was the one to arrange that marriage.

Lord Denys’ second daughter, lady Lyanna (with an A), is married to lord Benton of House Glover, but due to her current condition she probably does not remember that anymore.

The third daughter, lady Branna, is married to lord Walder of House Mormont, the stormsinger of Bear Island.

The youngest daughter, lady Orenna, is married to Ser Duncan of House Grell in the Riverlands.

Lord Denys’ only son eventually succeeded his grandsire and became the new Lord Hoster of Barrowlands. He was married to Lady Sybelle of the ruling pack of House Stark, daughter of the famous Lord Paramount Robb the Ironword, and therefore Lord Hoster thought himself invincible. Life proved him to be very, very wrong about it as he was beheaded by his own father-in-law in the year 340AC. He rushed into rulership so fast and without so little thought that he is now forever remembered as the Rash.

The Rash Lord also had three daughters and three sons.

His eldest daughter, lady Jonelle, is technically still married to Ser Jorah of House Mormont, but he is currently serving with The Bright Banners because of all the family drama named Jonas that was previously covered in the Chapter on House Mormont.

The second daughter, lady Arra, is married to Ser Pate of House Sunderland and is much more tame.

The third daughter, beautiful and fierce lady Beth, is married to Ser Roger of House Glover.

Lord Hoster’s youngest son, Master Marlon, was granted the castle of Brown Barrow after the minor House that resided there unfortunately died out. Master Marlon is married to Mistress Dacey of House Manderly.

The second son, Lord Denys, is married to his kinswoman, Lady Sabetha of the same House Dustin, Lady of Fever.

The current Lord of Barrowlands is the Rash Lord’s eldest son, the Seemly Lord Maric. He is married to his kinswoman, Lady Syrona of the same House Dustin, older sister of Lady Sabetha of Fever. Both pairs seem to be in total agreement of the current arrangement and are on very friendly terms with one another, which can only be beneficial to the common people and the lands these Lords and Ladies are to govern.

The Merry Mermen​

Lord Wyman of House Manderly, the Lord Lamprey of White Harbor, died under very suspicious circumstances in the year 297AC at the age of eight-and-fifty.

His younger son, Ser Wendel the Red Merman, occupied the castle of Alethorp until his death at the age of five-and-thirty just a year after his lord father’s death. Ser Wendel’s little son was most likely murdered by an unknown party at the age of just five years old and the castle of Alethorp went back to the main brach of the Manderly’s.

Lord Wylis the Wicked was the next Lord of White Harbor. He was married to Lady Leona of House Woolfield.

Their oldest daughter, lady Wynafryd, was first married to Lord Brandon of House Locke, Lord of Oldcastle. After his death she remarried to another Lord Brandon, this one of House Cerwyn, as his second wife.

The second daughter, lady Wylla, was married to Ser Theodric of House Wells. After his death from the gout she was so grief-stricken that two years after his death she mindlessly went out of her chambers into the cold night in nothing but her nightgown. After a brief fever her lungs gave up.

The third daughter, lady Sabetha, was married to Lord Gregor of House Long, Lord of Longhall. Her poor husband was so stressed out by their lack of sons and so beset with grief over his third daughter’s death that he willingly provoked a rabid dog to bite him and died an agonizing death not long after that. Lady Sabetha did not remarry.

The fourth daughter, lady Olaria, is married to Ser Gilwood of House Belmore in the Vale. Faith would have it that Ser Gilwood is the son of Lord Benedict and Lord Benedict’s son’s wife, lady Cloie, which makes their family tree and their in-House relations rather complicated.

The last daughter, lady Erena, was first married to Master Reynard of House Silverfield, mayor of Hardmead, until his death at the age of five and thirty. She then remarried to a lowborn man named Theo who was poised to be the father of her two children (but it is a common knowledge that he is not) therefore making them legitimate.

The daughter, lady Lyarra, married Beyond the Wall. She was first married to Lord Tormund of the Nightrunners clan of Night Valleys as his second wife. After his death she remarried to Sygurrd of Ruddy Hall. More about her ordeals dear reader can find in the next Chapter on the Mead-Kings of Ruddy Hall.

Lady Lyarra’s brother Royce also married a freefolk woman, lady Gerie of the Crowkillers clan, but this time she came south instead. They are currently residing with the Umbers of Last Hearth.

Ser Roone is Lord Wylis’ only son. He succeeded his father as Lord of White Harbor and thus became the first Lord Manderly to follow the Old Gods. His faith however did not stop him from abusing his power and he was sent to the Westwatch-by-the-Bridge where he still lives. His former wife, Lady Owella of House Poole, never remarried and died at the age of six-and-fifty.

Their first daughter, lady Alys, is married to Ser Robett of House Flint (of Flint’s Finger). Curiously enough, he is a follower of the Seven while she is an Old Gods believer.

The second daughter, lady Lyanne, was briefly married to poor doomed Ser Allard of House Lynderly. He died at the age of eight-and-ten and lady Lyanne remarried to Ser Robb of House Stark (Skagosi pack).

The third daughter, Mistress Branda, is married to Master Helman of House Glover, master of Wulfhall.

After Ser Roone’s disgrace his only son became the new Lord Barthogan of White Harbor. He was married to Lady Wynafryd of the ruling pack of House Stark until his accidental death at the age of two-and-fifty. Totally distraught, Lady Wynafryd vowed to be in mourning for the remainder of her life (there are rumors that she is actively praying for it to be as short as possible, but let us hope that these are just rumors).

All of their children are known for their beauty.

The pair’s first daughter, Mistress Dacey, is married to Master Marlon of House Dustin, master of Brown Barrow.

The second daughter, lady Narbrey, is married to Ser Belis of House Donniger in the Vale.

The third daughter, lady Lyra, is freshly married to Andar of House Royce, also in the Vale.

Their second son, Ser Morgan, is married to lady Deana of House Waynwood, also from the Vale.

Their oldest son and the current Lord of White Harbor, Lord Dorren, is married to Lady Barbara of House Mudd from the Riverlands.

One Punch Men​

Master Benton of House Glover, Lord of Wolfswood, died in the year 284AC. His lands were split between his two surviving sons.

Master Galbart got the biggest piece and became the new Master of Wolfswood. He was married to Lady Elsera, a bastard-born member of House Forrester. After her death from a particularly nasty flu at the age of five-and-thirty, Master Galbart never remarried. Whether it was due to his rumored disinterest with women or his genuine affection towards his late wife we will never know. Master Galbart was also a very anxious man, always stressing about something, so after he died the common saying emerged how he finally is free from all cares, thus making him forever remembered as Master Galbart the Careless.

Despite the rumors, Master Galbart fathered five sons.

His youngest, Ser Robard, is married to lady Branda of House Liddle.

Their only living son, Ser Edric, is unfortunately serving his time in the Westwatch-by-the-Bridge. In his rage he attacked a group of stableboys for an imaginary insult and severely maimed them. He then confessed and was sent to atone for his unjustified violence.

Ser Robard’s twin brother Alaric is married to Syrona of a minor house Seagatt.

Their daughter, lady Alys, is married to Ser Martyn of House Liddle, heir of the North Clans.

Lady Alys’ brother Ser Wendel is married to a very formidable lady Maege of House Umber. Rumor has it that Ser Wendel was so intimidated by his wife that he felt he needed to prove himself, so he signed up with The Maiden’s Men. Rather ironic choice given Ser Wendel’s known inclination to wanton ways.

Master Galbart’s third-born son Benton is married to lady Lyanna of House Dustin.

Their only daughter, Lady Marna, was first married to Lord Arthur Quiver of House Glenmore as his second wife. After his death she remarried to Lord Vayon of House Harrow, Lord of Withered Heath, again as a second wife.

Master Galbart’s second-born, Master Harwin, was made a castellan of Wulfhall. He was married to Mistress Alanna of House Ryswell. After her death there were talks about his chambermaid bragging about being his new wife, but the fact that Master Harwin declared an indefinite period of grieving and was very evidently distraught about his late wife’s passing prove these talks to be just that - talk and nothing more.

Master Harwin’s eldest daughter, Lady Mariah, is married as a second wife to a freefolk Lord Magrun from Crowkillers clan, Lord of the infamous Craster’s Keep.

Master Harwin’s poor middle daughter Bethany unfortunately died at the prime age of four-and-twenty from a brothel disease. Poor girl was too pretty for her own good and fell for a lowborn man-at-arms in her father’s barracks. After her father had forbidden her from seeing the man, young Bethany’s temper got the better of her and she went and laid with the man out of spite. Soon after that the whole household knew about it as the man in question openly bragged how he “spoiled the master’s precious lass”. At first in her shame poor Bethany was too proud to admit the full extent of his deceit, but eventually she told her parents everything. Of course everyone already knew everything so there were no prospects of marriage. As the sickness progressed, she was confined to the walls of Wolfhall where she eventually died.

Master Harwin’s youngest, lady Sybelle, is married as a second wife to Arnolf of House Harrow, brother of lady Sybelle cousin Lady Marna’s husband.

Master Galbart’s oldest son was the next Master of Wolfswood. Master Damon was married to Lady Lyanna, the Young Bear of House Mormont. After her death at the age of five-and-fifty Master Damon grieved for her deeply and followed his believer just two year after.

Lady Soldier by Jose Barrero​

The pair’s only daughter, lady Joranna, is married to lord Theon the Troubadour, the middle son of Lord Brandon of House Stark, the Wise Wolf of Stony Shore.

Her younger brother is the current castellan of Wulfhall. Master Helman is married to mistress Branda of House Manderly.

The current Master of Wolfswood is Master Damon’s first-born, Master Leobald. He clearly had inherited his mother’s affinity for animals and is known as the Beast Tamer for that. He is married to Mistress Jonelle of House Bolton.

Their daughters both married into prominent northern houses.

The youngest son Mark is freshly married to a very, very promising young lady Raya of House Umber.

The middle son Benjicot is married to lady Sheryse of House Karstark.

The current heir of Wolfswood is Ser Roger Glover, Master Damon’s oldest son. He is married to lady Beth of House Dustin.

Blackwood Grove​

A lesser part of Master Benton’s lands, the Blackwood Grove, went to his youngest son, Lord Robett. He was married to Lady Sybelle of House Locke.

Their only daughter, Lady Arsa, was the first wife of Lord Royce of House Moss, Lord of Eastmelt. After her death Lord Royce remarried twice. His second wife, Lady Lyarra of House Karstark, was the mother of the current Lord of Eastmelt.

Lord Royce’s last wife is a rather enigmatic figure. Reportedly her name is Eraemera of House Pyrys, she is six-and-twenty years old and hails from the lands of Valyria where she returned after her first husband’s death.

Late Lord Royce met his silver-haired widow at the wedding. She came to the North with her younger sister Minelna. Two young women seem to be the followers of the Old Gods, highly unusual for an Essosi, let alone a Valyrian. The sisters came to the North in search for better understanding of their own faith, but found husbands instead, and in a curious twist of fate both were named Royce. Lady Minelna was the first. She met and fell in love with young Ser Royce of House Holt and married him soon after. It was their wedding where another Royce met his future widow.

But we digress. Let us get back to the fists at hand.

Ser Benjen is Lord Robett’s younger son. He is married to lady Erena of House Harclay.

Their only son, Ser Galbart, is married to his quick-witted cousin, lady Beth of House Moss, daughter of late Lord Royce and his first wife, lady Arsa.

The current Lord of Blackwood Grove is Lord Robett’s first-born, Lord Theonald. He is married to Lady Serena of House Woods.

Their only daughter, lady Lyarra, is married to Ser Lyonel Thunderbolt of House Sunderland. Despite their hopes and dreams, the marriage remains childless.

Ser Robard is Lord Theonald’s youngest son. He is married to lady Arya of House Norrey. He managed to sire three sons by her, but after that he openly shuns her bed in favor of whores and in his cruel fits of openness blames his poor good-natured wife’s misfortune for his own malady.

The pair’s oldest son Rickard is married to lady Lyanne of House Umber.

The twins, Helman and Theodar, are married to ladies Alysane of House Glenmore and Sarra of minor house Morcant respectively.

Lord Theonald’s third son, Ser Beron, is married to lady Alysanne of House March.

Their sons, Ser Theonald and Duncan, are married to ladies Arya of House Glenmore and Jonelle of House Lightfoot respectively.

Lord Theonald’s second son Joseth was first married to lady Sansa of House Forrester. After her death from the cancer of the breasts at the age of just five-and-twenty, he eventually remarried to lady Sylvi of House Ryswell.

Joseth’s only child, lady Serena, was briefly married to Jeor of House Bole until his death at the age of just eight-and-ten. It is said that poor lad was missing for days before he was finally found in his hiding spot in the cellars, curled into a ball, his thin arms clutching at his sunken chest. Lady Serena then remarried and her current husband is Desmond of House Long with whom she has a daughter.

The current heir of Blackwood Grove is Robett, Lord Theonald’s first-born. Man of legendary skills with a sword, he adamantly refuses any and all attempts to make him a knight setting that the Old Gods do not believe in knighthood. It is rumoured that his almost unnatural prowess comes from his ability to see the future in his dreams or his dealings with more obscure practices of his ancient faith.

Robert was married to lady Lynora of House Longthorpe until her death at the age of five-and-thirty. A known patron of whorehouses, Robett then managed to marry one of his favourites during one of his drunken binges, a norvoshi going by the name of Sweet Tongue Mina.

Both his daughters by lady Lynora are married. The older one, lady Ryessa, is married into her mother’s House, while the younger, Jocelyn, is married to the handsome young Willam of House Mollen.

Blackwood Grove's heir’s heir is Jonnel, Robett’s only son. He is married to beautiful lady Jhena, a freefolk woman from Warriormane’s clan.

The White Hill Ever Higher​

In the year 309AC Lord Ludd of House Whitehill, Lord of Highpoint, was finally sent to stand trial before The Seven. His second wife, Lady Arya of House Karstark, quietly lived her days at the court of her stepsons.

Lord Ludd’s only daughter’s turbulent romance was already covered in the previous Chapter on House Forrester.

His youngest son Gryff was married to lady Larra of House Branch, already a widow at the time of their wedding. After her death he took a common girl to warm his bed. She later claimed that they were married before the weirwood tree, but the fact that Gryff was a follower of the Seven makes it a very dubious claim.

Gryff’s only living son, Ser Owen, was married to lady Alanna of House Overton before his exile from his home for embezzlement from his lord and patriarch. His former wife became afflicted by the dreaded Greyscale and died from it after a brief and futile struggle.

Their only son, Ser Warrick, is married to his kinswoman, lady Donella.

Their only daughter Gilliane is married to Ser Whalen of House Darry, heir to the castle of Riverbend all the way south.

Lord Ludd’s third-born son Torrhen was married to a common girl whose name is missing from the archives.

Their only son, Ser Rodrick, was briefly married to lady Donella of House Ashwood, but unfortunately he died from an acute food poisoning at the age of just three-and-twenty. His widow never remarried and remains at Highpoint with her children.

Their daughter, who is also named Donella, is the one that married her hinsman.

Her brother Alaric is married to a common woman named Barbrey.

Their son Roderick recently married young lady Kerena of House Glenmore. Curiously enough, they actually were sworn to each other under the watchful eyes of the weirwood tree as young Roderick seems to follow the Old Gods of the North rather than the Seven like the rest of his relatives.

Lord Ludd’s second-born son Ebbert studied at the Citadel, became a maester and later the Archmaester under the guidance of your humble author’s predecessor, Archmaester Wylis.

Lord Ludd’s first-born son Ser Karl succeeded his father as Lord of Highpoint. The name of his wife was unfortunately also lost.

The marriage of his daughter lady Mariah and Lord Hother of House Forrester of Ironrath was supposed to mend the rivalry between their houses, but unfortunately it did not go as planned. Poor Lord Hothor is widely believed to be either poisoned or cursed (depending on the level of superstition of the person being asked), but everyone agrees that it must have been done by some Whitehill. After Lord Hothor's inevitable death from one of his many afflictions, his widow was so devastated by her grief that it is also widely accepted that her “fatal meal disagreement” was intentional and self-inflicted.

Lady Jonella, Lord Karl’s other daughter, fares relatively better. She is technically still married to Torrhen of House Moss, but they are long separated and not on speaking terms. Rumor has it that it is due to Torrhen’s volatile temper that he is brave enough to act out only with someone definitively weaker than him.

As Lord Karl’s only son, Lord Lothor naturally succeeded him in the year 326AC. He was married twice. His first wife was Lady Lysa of House Flynt (of Widow’s Watch). After her death in the Grey Plague outbreak Lord Lothor remarried to Lady Bethany of House Grell from the Riverlands, a widow herself at that point.

Lord Lothor’s daughters are married and betrothed into prominent northern houses.

His poor younger son is afflicted by the hare-lip which he hides under a bushy mustache. He is married to lady Lynara of House Mollen. They have a young son.

Lord Roose, Lord Lothor’s first-born son, is the current Lord of Highpoint. Along with his young kinsman Roderick, he is the only other member of House Whitehill to follow the Old Gods. He is married to Lady Cariah of House Elesham from the Vale. Lady Cariah is a widow of late Lord Hother of House Holt and their son Norren is the current Lord of Whitford.
