Same with me, I didn't have this "KB5050009" update until today, however freezes started earlier so this probably won't help at allGoogle says it was released on 14.01.2025. Funny is i don't have your Update on my "Uninstall updates" listThis is all pretty fucked, I only found out about this (maybe) broken uipdate in another forum regarding a completly different topic. Maybe just wait for a fix from paradox or windows tbh. Btw I installed windows completly new before uninstalling said update. So maybe if you cant find it, reinstall windows followed by uninstalling the update? Like I said not sure about all of this.
Firstly, don't post the same things in multiple threads - that is spamming and against the rules here.I have literally the same issue i deinstalled everything ck 3 related made everything new and followed every "fix" out there but its not running longer then 15 minutes. The initial loading went quite quick to the point where i thought everything is all right Ram use was around 6 gb so all fine and the i open a Menu like select a spouse for hire and in an instant the Ram use goes up to 100% or even trying to get more. I have 16 gb ram and it literally went and used 16 gb ram and everything was frozen. And honestly i am a bit mad i have 800 hours in ck 3 and out of nowhere it became unplayable. I would even refund atm if it still would be possible![]()
If you have Windows 11 24H2 this is certainly the cause of this problem.I have been having the same problem lately too. Probably starting this year for 2-3 weeks. It will just completely lock up my computer and I have to hard restart my computer 1x a day every day to get it working again. CK3 is the only game where I am having this problem. ROTK 8 remake and CK2 runs fine. I have the windows update file mentioned in the forum. Windows 11. Intel i7-8700K @3.7 GHZ. 16 GB Ram. Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti. Is this a bios or a win update issue? Does playing this game full screen vs windowed mode make a difference? Please let me know. I am wary of running the game again until there is a fix.
You know what most (wait... all?) Of those games you listed have in common? Paradox. So the problem is, at it's core, a Paradox problem. Other developers aren't out here turning people's GPUs into chunks of molten slag and refusing to accept the blame.I don't joke about such matters.
This Intel CPU problem is very widely reported and affects many games and apps, not just this one - check out the end of that thread I linked. I've seen cases in this game, Cities Skylines 2, Victoria 3, Stellaris, HOI4 and EU4 alone.
If you have one of the affected Intel CPUs, that is 12th to 14th gen, this is almost certainly your problem. I urge you to seek a bios update form your system board maker.
Actually that is not so - Cities Skylines is written by Colossal Order, a different studio writing on a different game engine, Paradox only publish it.You know what most (wait... all?) Of those games you listed have in common? Paradox. S
So clearly a hardware issue, which at the time that was written was worked around by the tweaks you see above, BUT is now fully addressed with bios updates that include new Intel microcode, that they wrote to fix this issue that they acknowledged.I no longer believe the problem is the game, at least it's not just the game. At least for me, on a i9-13900k, the issue is a combination of the AVX commands being called by the game which is pushing these CPUs harder in ways that they have not before, modern motherboards from Asus (and possibly MSI and others) helpfully optimizing the CPU for you by undervolting it (sometimes drastically), and the system being overly optimistic about how well the CPU being able to perform at high clocks with multiple cores at these settings.
I now have a stable setup for Victoria 3 and my i9-13900k which allows me to play for literally hours without a crash while also not being hot as hell. I am as shocked you are.
Hi there, let me know if disabling the cores works for you!! So far I haven't found a solution and the latest update from the devs on this subject was on Dec 11 on this post https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...r-windows-11-24h2-update.1718749/page-3#posts , but everyone there is really out of ideas too.Having the same problem, with a fresh Windows PC that I built in December. Found myself back to playing CK3 only to have it crash (the entire PC) every 30-50 minutes.
I have tried updating bios, drivers, and windows.
Time permitting, I will try to disable the first two and last two cores as outlined here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...-installing-win11-24h2.1725554/#post-30126081
If that doesn't work, I may try rolling back to 23H2 if that's still an option.
I just played for about 2 hours without a crash, which is an improvement for me. I disabled the first two and last two cores after starting the game. I get occasional hiccups in the game, and at one point even thought I had experienced the crash as it froze for a few seconds. But I never actually crashed and it was at least "playable".Hi there, let me know if disabling the cores works for you!! Although I can unfortunately report that having tried to play the game today I have not got a session longer than 20 minutes to stay stable. The good news is that by limiting the cores my PC remains operational even when the game freezes. But, the bad news is it's functionally unplayable at the moment.Hi there, let me know if disabling the cores works for you!! Hello there! I'll update the driver and make a fresh install of the game to be safe. Once I have some new I'll report back. Hopes this works!!Hey folks!
If you are having issues with CK3 freezing and you are on Windows 24H2, could you try updating your Nvidia driver to at least 572.42 and see if the issue persists?
We've had good results with that driver update internally.
I still have the issue with latest nvidia driver 572.47, I tried several things and they still dont workHey folks!
