They can't say anything real at this point like: 'We finally have somewhat beta-ish gameplay for people who bought the game 1.5 years ago".
They can only say something like this: 'Look at us working so hard, fixing the game...' which would be appriciated by people who are already very positive about the game, or which can be seen as more gaslighting by people who loves this game but feels lied to about it for the last 2 years.

How did such a loyal community turn toxic in the course of 2 years?
Quite simple, actually.

The game was released in a very bad state, both technically and conceptually. While some minor things got patched fast (graphics) the conceptual flaws of the game did not only take quite some time to be (partially) adressed, but the socalled "patches" did introduce new bugs again and again. Combine that with a communication approach for which I am missing the proper words here, and even the most loyal fanbase will slowly turn impatient.

And no, the community has NOT turned toxic. The community is just articulating their frustration with a game which still is far from what was expected given the bold advertisements and the fact that this game is a successor to an already existing one. It is not as if they would have invented the wheel.
They did have a rather smoothly rolling wheel already and as successor they presented a octagon.
Some people are praising them for having turned that octagon into a decagon in the meantime, but others are still unhappy with the pure fact that even that decagon isn't rolling well.

Edit: It's "decagon" :)

It was a rhetorical question.

This patch has two devastating and in my opinion "game breaking" bugs. While the game is playable and fun in any given session, over time it will be impossible to progress until patched again.

1) The office bug is back, this will slowly kill your economy as companies lose jobs and all end up at 5/5

2) The leisure system is in overload, this will draw too many outside visitors
(who dont seem to count as tourists, dont stay in hotels, dont buy anything, and just clog roads and transit).

I think it is reasonable for CO to nail down core simulation function before going on a big press / publicity tour. Especially when the game simulation demonstrably works worse (although it performs faster in speed and fps).

edit: I personally dont have a serious industrial bug, but I do have a 30-40% drop in commercial demand. there are many bugs, but while previous patches were at least playable, this one seems especially demotivating.

Seems related to homeless and adults finding jobs and homes

You forgot to mention the new industry profitability bug

The recent patch has put CS2 in by far the best state it’s been in so far. Performance is now good, the most obvious bugs are fixed and the simulation is better than ever. That’s not to say the game is perfect but I’d consider it to be in good shape at the moment.

How come CO are still silent? I’ve seen next to no publicity about this, I’d have thought they’d be shouting from the rooftops that the game is finally in a good state.
The game is not just about its performance. In the trailer video of the game, they said "If you can dream it, you can build it" as a headline. The map and asset editor are still not complete. The game is like beta without them. We can't build what we dream of. The trailer is not as promised either. Moreover, it took almost two years to reach this point. What a joke. 2 years!

Adding:
3) There is a new and confirmed game breaking bug that was introduced with the latest patch that causes citizen wealth to increase without limit. Partly/likely because citizens are shopping for goods without paying. This will cause a complete imbalance in the city’s economy.

Yeah, it's a great patch but it's not near perfect already. I almost bought the game after this patch, thinking they finally ironed out the game, I'm waiting for it, but reading here on the forum you'll see that the simulation still have a lot of problems/bugs. It's really one step forward and two step back, unfortunally.

I just expected more out of a sequel. Like the game doesn't really feel like a sequel and the cadence of patches has been quite lackluster. Not surprising people still aren't happy.
