When the UK surrenders the mandate in Palestine, the refer the matter to the UN. In this game it is a USA choice. Depending on what choice they make, either Israel or Palestine gets independence in May 1948. Usually they choose the historic partition plan. Since the Arabs rejected the plan, only Israel is created.

Trouble is: nothing happened, no one got another event, no nation was liberated, nothing

HitmanRO,
The 6 month delay is what is confusing you. The decision in November 1947 causes one of two alternative events on May 15, 1948 to be slept.
Here's the whole series for your information. I will add information to the FAQ file for the next release.

BTW found a bug in my events.txt file on the previous page and fixed it.

danielshannon,
Thank you for your tireless bug reports. Would you like to help out in a general 53-70 ministers project?

I do not like how it does not give me an option as to whether or not to let Egypt go, I would have preffered the option to refuse and to just fight the revolt. Also it would be nice if the event which allows you to choose how China was set up would give a bit of a description on it.

Egypt actually was a semi-independent British puppet before and during World War 2. Besides Egypt has to be independent--otherwise Arab-Israeli war events do not unfold properly.

The China options represent some initial uncertainty in my mind as to what the order of battle should be. It seems that the default "Axis History Setup" based on the best maps I could get gives the correct results (Communist China victory in 1949 in AI vs AI) and is going to be the option used. The other two setups were 1) Doomsday--the one used in Paradox's Doomsday scenario and 2) CCIP--what the CCIP creator mib thought the order of battle should be.
IMO the Doomsday scenario makes things too easy for the Communists and the CCIP setup makes things too easy for the Nationalists. I actually test-played the Axis history setup and crushed the Communists in mid-1946. With the CCIP setup I managed to wipe them out before the January 1946 cease fire so that is way too easy. I also test-played Communist China and got good results by January 46. So I'd say Axis History setup gives the right balance.

With Egypt what I would like would be the option of refusing further independance. The AI should probably have a very low chance of doing it but still I did not want to give up an inch of land! :p With it and with India and simialer events you should probably have it done like in mod 33 where you will face serious rebel difficulties rather than just a minor dissent hit.

Some of the "conversion" techs don't make the other conversion techs obsolete. For example researching the integrated firepower tech for UK branch doesn't make the mechanized wave tech obsolete. Is this intended?

I'm also not entirely sure which land doctrines are SUPPOSED to be available for each "branch".

I understand there are supposed to be 4 distinct lines: NATO, Soviet, Sino-Japanese and Modern Infantry, but there seems to be so much overlapping that I'm not really sure what techs go with what doctrine path. The second column of doctrines seems to be used by ALL of them (except the sino-japanese path). I assume Rapid Domination is the NATO path but US can't even research it until it completes the entire second column. I'm not even sure it's working correctly.

Could you clarify what paths are supposed to be available and how they are supposed to work? Thanks.

Excellent question. Yes the second column (special forces doctrines) is supposed to be used by all of them but is made available earlier or later depending on some other factors.
Rapid Domination--becomes IMMEDIATELY available for Blitzkrieg, and available a bit later for American (NATO) doctrine--in about 1955 after they research mechanized infantry tactics. But NATO gets the special forces doctrines earlier than the Warsaw pact. This reflects the fact that the Warsaw Pact prepared mainly for a land war in either Europe or the Middle East. NATO, while preparing for a land war in Europe also, had to think about the rest of the world, and emphasized power projection, amphibious landings and counter-insurgency warfare, for which tanks aren't very good. That's why they get the tank doctrines later, when they are finally scared enough of what the Soviets are doing, and stop relying on airpower alone. The Soviets, on the other hand, did not take amphibious warfare seriously after WW2, despite some experience with it in the Black Sea area during WW2. So their access to special forces doctrines requires a certain level of advancement of the marines, etc. On the other hand, the American side gets the special forces tree right away, before anybody else. That probably should be a readme.

The reason for all the conversion techs is this--if you add up the numbers, the ends of the vanilla trees give widely differing values for max_org and morale. In order to equalize the values for a common NATO or Warsaw doctrine, DIFFERENT iterations are necessary in order that the French, British and American doctrines can evolve into a NATO doctrine with the same values for max_org and morale. It is only necessary, for example, for the pathway of the French doctrine leading to NATO to deactivate the French doctrine to Warsaw conversion. It does not have to deactivate the Japanese pathway leading to Warsaw or the British pathway leading to Warsaw. etc.

If you don't want to give up an inch of land, make sure you as the UK fight the war on the side of Germany and/or dishonor (or don't make) a guarantee to Poland. Then the independence events won't fire. Let the Germans destroy the Russians, and join the war of the USA against Japan. After Japan puppets China, you can free the Chinese from them and make China part of YOUR glorious empire (of course give some of it to France).

I'd consider your proposal if the penalty is severe enough, since a lot of history is disrupted and then they should eventually get their independence anyway and be very hostile to you for obstructing that--perhaps even going communist. But I think the main emphasis should be on developing the historical events, including some that I haven't implemented yet that were quite real--like the Dutch-Indonesia war, the Second Republic of East Turkestan, the possibility of West Papua in 1961, the Algerian civil war, etc.
BTW in the next release, you should see Indochina events start to unfold. It has actually been there all along, but did not unfold because of the starting map.

I suggest doing some reading about Subhas Chandra Bose, the Indian National Army, the Red Fort Trial, etc for starters.

Sure, I'd love to help. Would you mind if I added any ministers we come up with to Mod NN?

No, I understand this. The thing I was pointing out was that the conversion tech for, say, UK integrated firepower doesn't deactivate the UK mechanized wave conversion tech. Among other similar situations. I guess I could say I'm reporting a bug.

Thanks for the clarification on the other question, though.

danielshannon,
No problem in adding ministers to New Nations. I hope you realize, however, when the Cold War project is finished it will not be NN mod compatible due to tag conflicts. For examples:
1) I soon plan to reflect the situation in Xinjiang with dual tags representing the political reality in the province
2) There was an abortive West Papua state in 1961 advocated by the Netherlands but quashed by JFK, who wanted Sukarno to take over the remainder of the Dutch East Indies.
3) Qatar and UAE need tags
etc

Ohwell,
You are right and it will be corrected next version.

Sweet, man! Nice to see you're still working on the fatherland mod! :)

When starting the 1936 Campaign with your mod, I get a error concerning hoi2plus.txt from the events file. Something missing there possibly?

Donnie D,
Can you be more specific, and also WHICH 1936 campaign are you talking about, the regular one or the one labeled '1936 Grand Campaign User Mod'? They both load fine for me. Are you trying to play 1936 with my events package or in conjunction with another mod? Also are you playing a new game or continuing with a savegame from before installing this mod?

Ahh, I solved the problem myself already, the hoi2plus.txt was written in the events1.txt with the wrong path, events without the "vl" ending. Funny on a sideline, I did not even register that there was a new 1936 Grand Campaign, I just started the normal one where the error popped up, I play Arma 1.2 with your mod, several graphic mods which I believe not to have any influence, you know, like SKIF etc., and before your mod included thos ccip-events, also the CCIP-Pack. I just copied your pack over my install-directory, before it happened by the way. One othere thing I´d like to ask, why are there some, mhmm, not necessarily useful files in the mod, like copies of some models?

I'm having the same problem.
1936 campaign, the regular one, not the "user mod" one.
When loading ("Reading scenario...") a message error pops up.
-- Scenario files had errors --
Do you still want to continue?

Abort / Retry / Ignore
Abort and retry CTD. Ignore loads the game, but I didn't play through to see if it would CTD as well later or something.

I reinstalled the whole game just for this new update in the following order:
- Arma 1.2
- CDCP patch
- Cold war tech tree
- Daim
(Edit: that same installation procedure worked fine with previous versions of this mod.)

Donnie D seems to have solved the problem easily himself. I simply didn't understand at all what he was talking about. :D

Also, what are the differences between the two 1936 scenarios? I just can't see what that new scenario is for.

Quote from readme_faq.txt
Q. What is the extra file "1936 Grand Campaign User Mod" for?
A. This is to satisfy 2 groups of people--people who want to continue to play their own events package
with a tech tree extension, and those who want to play with my events package. However, most who want to use their
own package play out of the 1936 scenario. So the 1936 scenario is duplicated with different event-file references.
This gives you, for example, the ability to play from 1936 with SMEP or with my own package. All other scenarios use
my events package by default, but you as the user may edit the scenario files and override this feature.

About the hoi2plus.txt
See, in the events2.txt, the path to each and every event file is listed.
However, the path for the hoi2plus.txt is missing something, namely the "_vl" ending for the folder. After all, he(Nomonhan) did include this file in that folder, not in the simple eventfolder.

Hope it helps. Just clean reinstalled for the mod, soon trying the ´36GCUM.
Edit:mad: Seb.D. After rereading your post, I am not so sure we even have the same problem, I mean, scenario file would point to the "scenario"-folder, not db, or?
