if i use the aircrafttechfile fix can i stil continieu my save game?

Yes. The only thing changed are the positions of some displaced buttons on the aircraft tech screen. I hope you will enjoy it. ;)

I am planning to do an AAR covering the 1950s and ‘60s. c0d5579 recommended checking out this mod. I am glad he did. The tech trees are great, especially the space techs. This will really flesh out my story technology-wise. Thanks, nomonhan!

How come the no time limit patch breaks the executable for ARMA? I got that one thats in Spanish and that you can translate(I think thats the right one) Had to do a fresh install of the game cause of it. I must note I use a Direct2Drive version.

However, Its not to big of a deal for me though(barely can play to 1943, let alone 1964 when ARMA ends)

Anyway, glad that there is a new fatherland out and love the cold war extension mod. Battle scenarios and campaigns are fun too. Still cant get past the WWII era though(once got to 1942 as Germany, took over all of continental Europe and most of the UK and Ireland but then the war machine fell apart cause of supply issues-soldiers were fighting from the Nile to the Thames...and winning for a time!)

I've decided to recommend against no time limit patches for my mods, due to the fact that some of them have triggered antivirus alerts. The safest one if you insist on using one is probably the one included with the Modern Day Scenario. So use whatever Killerrabbit is using. You can already play through 63 with vanilla Armageddon without a patch. For play past 63 I recommend Arsenal of Democracy, in which there is no time limit. (End date set by scenario). I'm doing future development on AOD for that reason and others.

wait, so the game technically doesn't end?(the ARMA one) So when I get to dec. 30, 1963, and the date reaches 1964, would the game keep on going(without the no time limit patch) until I decided to stop playing, or would it just end and show me what side(allies, axis, or communists) had the most victory points?

I really want to use your new techs that go all the way to 1970. Can I not use them before the game ends, or is it infinite time by default as set up by paradox?

btw, is AOD worth it? Saw it on steam for $19.99. It seems to be the same game with only slight improvements(ai, difficulty, etc) Also, does it use the same sys requirments as HOI2? I can barely run HOI3. Would AOD run on a computer manufactured in 2006-07?

You'll see the victory points when 1964 arrives. Is AOD worth it? I can't speak for the system requirements, but I think it requires just a bit more than HOI2 but not as much as HOI3. It does resolve the two issues that matter most to programming a long timeline:
1) removing the 10-model limit for divisions
2) officially removing the time limit
It also includes more naval attachments, the possibility of creating your own new brigades, a more complex production system, etc. If you're sitting on the fence would recommend waiting for patch 1.05 to be released for AOD, then taking the plunge provided your system can handle it. IMO 1 or 2 years down the road all mod developers will either be writing for AOD or HOI3, and AOD is easier on your system.

just one last question concerning your mod and the time/date system in ARMA. Why do your techs go all the way to 1970's+? Saw some events going to the 70's as well and many beyond '64(while still in the '60's). How would I play past 1964 without installing the no time limit patch(last time i tried it broke the hoi2 DD/ARMA .exe file and the rest have broken links or are broken as well.) Had to do a clean install took a while.

So, are the techs and events that go beyond 1964 for no time limit patch users only? Will I ever get to see Soviet super sonic jet fighters and main battle tanks crush the armies of mid 1970's cold war America or am I out of luck until I manage to get a no time limit patch working properly?

If you knew of a no time limit patch THAT WORKED could you give me the link?

NEVER MIND-got the one by the people who made mod34 working.

Trouble with crashing

I'm having trouble with the game crashing. The screen goes black, then after a few seconds a small window comes up that says AoD crashed.
I'm using the CWTT mod .16 that I downloaded two or three days ago. This is my first game using it and I very much like it so far.

I'm playing as the USA. It's been crashing for about a year now, but I save it and it always goes on for awhile after that. But recently I've been needing to save it every couple days or so. And with this saved game it does not go past the next turn. You just unpause it and crash.
The save file is one that continues a game from AoD itself, so there are issues in the save file to ignore. Maybe this is the fundamental problem, or maybe it's something else.
(ignore the tech team cheat, and i added some supplies, but other than that it's the straight game)

I'd appreciate some help!
Thanks very much.

This thread is for the HOI2 version of CWTE. There is a thread for the AoD version in the AoD forum, although mysteriously not located in the modifications forum.

Please post problems with the AOD version in the proper thread -- see links in my sig. I can tell that the problem is due to your using a savegame created with an old version of CWTTE that does not allow for the new map (I can tell because the new ministers for the USA are not in your savegame file). Also you've done some tech team cheats, so your situation would not occur in a normal game. My only recommended cheats (if you want to use any) are to give yourself a research mod bonus to test the tech tree
(via event)
command = { type = research_mod value = 1000 } for example increases your speed by a factor of 10
OR
increase the base research speed in misc.txt (this makes research faster for everybody
OR take away the historical date penalty by editing its entry in the same file.
Resolution: Start a new game with the latest version of CWTTE for AOD. If you get a scenario error on load, then you haven't properly installed the new map that is now integral to the scenario. Employ only the listed cheats if any.

So the other day I'm playing the Cold War Extention Mod and I decide to load up as Germany because, believe it or not, in all of my years of HOI2'ing I've never played a game as the Third Reich.

To the point, here is where I need the help though, I can't seem to pull off a successful Blitzkrieg, I take Poland at historic pace (around a month normally. However it took 2 months when I decided not to sign the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.) But when I try to take France I manually declare war on Neatherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg in May of 1940 but in the end I always stall and find myself pulling off a WW1 repeat.

I suppose I don't have enough ground units, I tend to rely heavily on CAS, infantry, all backed up by some mobile and a few armor units. I find my lines stretching thin though and not being able to push back the French as good and quickly as I would hope and usually after a few months of stalemate the French start to push me back.

A few tips:

- Sign the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. It makes conquering Poland much easier. I've been able to do it within two weeks, and I've seen others do it in five days.

- Focus on Belgium. Luxembourg and the Netherlands just draw troops away, you can attack them later.

- The Maginot Line. Don't attack it unless it's cut off. The AI will almost never attack you from here, so you don't need lots of divisions there. Six infantry divisions in the three provinces (18 total) should do it.

- Attack as soon as possible. Last game I played, I began my offensive against France and Belgium on October 1, 1939. Vichy France was formed six weeks later.

- Focus on building armoured units. You should have about ten by September 1939. And use them smartly: they should be used for encirclements and the rapid seizure of territory. Infantry, Cavalry and Motorised should be used to defend that territory and provide backup.

- Forget about CAS. Tactical Bombers are more effective for what you need to do, and that's reduce Organisation. A unit can have low manpower and high org, and you won't be able to beat them. CAS is useful if a unit is in retreat or has been encircled, but they won't work if you're attacking a province.

Anything else you'd like to know? I've played Germany a couple of times, in my current game I've got six level four aircraft carriers ready to go for Operation Sealion in May 1940.:D

so, when will Fatherland for ARMA be finished completely? The BETA version has many bugs and if fully debugged and implemented it can have great potential.
Well there are two versions of Fatherland--the original and mine. The original broke down routinely after 6 months and when I looked at the code I could see why. Mine at least holds up for a few years, and it's part of the package. I'll be concentrating on developing Fatherland for AOD.
Neoman,
Tips for Germany
I recommend five things--
1) Plan Z --get those carriers out ASAP. You should at least have 4 available for SeaLion in 39. You can use bergsjaeger as your initial invasion force.
2) In the SCW, DOW Republican Spain in order to convince Nationalist Spain to ally you. Then when WW2 hits, have a tank unit ready at Gibraltar backed up by infantry. The tank unit won't be able to hold Gibraltar but will give you quick possession, making the Brits the attacker (they cannot get the province because they are under attack by your swarms of infantry once they land). Once you're in Gibraltar with a few units, they're screwed.
3) If you don't get/take the Ribbentrop Molotov pact you're screwed. The Soviet AI will sooner or later react, and you've got a two front war before you know it.
4) Sea Lion in late 1939 immediately after France
5) Barbarossa in 1940
The Allies are pretty much screwed, though I do make things a bit tougher in my mod.

It's definitely an improvement over ARMA--as is anything that removes the 10 model limit and time limits. If you like added complexity and more technical details it's good. It has new features like synthetic materials plants, railway artillery, heavy submarines, mine laying capability, ability to define your own attachments, etc. It's also tougher than HOI2--you can't so easily conquer the world as a minor country with swarms of infantry. I'll say "yes", but don't waste your money on Iron Cross--it screws up your AOD--wait for Darkest Hour if you want this at all--Iron Cross is just Mod 34, New Nations and a new map that you have to pay for. I'd rather pay $20 for AOD than $10 for Iron Cross.
The other option is to wait for Darkest Hour--Darkest Hour also makes Iron Cross a bit more palatable. It also removes the 10 model limit and time limits. Because I've helped the team I have a beta and find that the mod seems to port rather easily to that platform. I expect to revive this project as a Darkest Hour/HOI2 compatible project, and then turn it into a Darkest Hour mod in order to extend the time frame past 1970.
So when DH comes out there will be two versions of this mod. But I may not be able to get all the AOD features onto the Darkest Hour version.

I think I will buy AOD after what you told me about it. Sounds a lot harder and having no time limit I'd love to play as Germany all the way into 2010. Anyways, how does the no time limit thing work? Is it like EU3 where you choose the date, or is it just like HOI2's system where you choose a default, but it never ends?

Should it work on a computer from 2006? It was a mid range computer when it was brand new. Should AOD run easy on my computer, as hoi2 does?
