Comp Crash and Burn

Bought Crusader Kings -it was version 1- in the US
Installed it, patched it with 1.04 and tried to run it.
The computer system crashed and burned with a windows protection error.
Had to restore the system. Tried what was said about the AVI etc.. Reinstalled it, crash and burn -restored system.
Did this 4 times total the last restore took me 3 hours to find a point the comp would accept.
Running P4 1700Mhz 512K memory Nvidea geo3 all drivers updated and current DX9b. BUT am on Windows ME. Would not reccommend anyone buyin this program till completely tested. Am returning game NOW.

Seems like an issue with your hard/software, not a bug within the game mechanics.

One attempt of a fix might be to install the 1.04a patch instead of 1.04, if it doesn't do the trick then I know Castellon can think of something.

As indicated in my original post -first install without patch crashed and burned comp system did a checkpoint restore as that was only thing that worked. 2nd Install went to your patch site and installed the 1.04a patch -system crashed and burned again -took me 2hours then to find a restore point from last tuesday as it seems all of the more current ones were nerfed. This game is badly bugged at this moment out of the box for installation.
You need a surgeon generals warning on it or at least buyer beware.
I have updated upgraded etc etc no other games on the system have problems and am also in everquest with no problems which has a much more stringent requirement for operation.
Seems that Im not the only one with issues on this released game refer to the other posts regarding patch 1.04a and the version 1.
Basic windows protection error was VDD(03)+0001816 Error:00:0028:C0231DC6 and this occured on version 1 and on the patch 1.04a
Sellers basic attitude is tough contact the manufacturer. So I am out the money spent for this game and can only use it as a coaster for drinks.

Let's work this through and I am sure we can sort it out.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

I understand what you are asking for but since there are so many hackers out there and I have been hacked before, I do not think that I would like to post my computer information on a public bulletin board since I am not certain that the information could not be used to attack my computer. If you wish this information I will send it to you privately. I assume you are able to get my email address from my registration screen. I also do not think that shipping version 1 with no warning to patch the game before running is a good policy.

It seems I have nearly the same problem

I tried to start CK. With and without patch 1.04a. I installed the game and started it. The trailer works and afterwars the initiallisation starts. At the 'sound' it crush down and jumped back to windows.No report, nothing. And it's a new system.

Sent it in PM -although all tests were successful. Broken into 3000 char messages.
Seller here will only replace game with same game so whats the point sent them a notice of the problem so if more have this and they were warned dunno legalities.

Since there are not hundrends of people here complaining about this issue (and believe me there would be ) it has to be something related to your particular system. Let me take a look at the info you supplied and get back to you.

I notice your sound card driver is out of date, please update that.
Completely wipe the game from your system then reinstall, apply the patch and then rebbot the system, then:
Also Switch the desktop to 1024x768 with color depth of 16BIT.
Also rename AVI folder to AVI _back, yess I know you tried that but everytime you reinstall it must be done again.
Make sure everything like virus protection is turned completely off.

Did what you said.
Took me 3 hours to get my system back.
Error VDD(03) + 00001816 ERROR :00:0028:C0231DC6
After not finding a system restore -changed video -reloaded drivers -got system back now tweakin to where it was.
Using this game as a coaster as suppliler not taking it back and your advice was useless.
This system does not operate on this system Windows ME Ndivea geo 3 (no matter the driver used)

NA edition crashes

hi,
have also bought na edition about 1 week ago, have installed new patch also and get constant crashes of comp. i have windows 2000, comp is fully able to run game. game just stops and drops out, or windows error appears, runs fine till about 15-20 years into the game. very disappointed, love all the other titles.
