i propose a cyclic event that fires every 4 years that checks if papal lands are owned by anyone but the papal states. if so it releases them. if they are vassalized it breaks the vassalization. the ai is too stupid to release it.

Aha! If we need to do this, I can use an event generator my brother has created that will create just such a repetitive event with ease. (I've been looking for a place to use it. )

If the country is muslim or protestant/reformed (or any faith but catholic or CRC) papal states shouldn't get released I think.

No european power should hold it really. Swabia if it goes reformed will often eat all of italy. and the papal lands. and then everyone jumps them and they get torn apart because of the high bb

muslims yes, europeans, even other deniominations probably should not go for it. for the reason that the game gives everyone a a free prema bb on the offender. and this makes it hard for the designers to anticipate events and write for it.
