After buying all the DLC and installing patch 1.7 my game runs slower, hotter, and crashes after 15-30 minutes every session. The longest I've kept it going is 45 minutes, I think. This was not a problem on any other version of the game. It can happen if I'm doing something while the week ticks over, when the game saves, or at other times. I've all the settings at the lowest possible and am not using any other programs.

I've followed some suggested solutions like deleting terrain cache and re-installing the game, but neither fix crashed.

Please do a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-Vic3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Victoria3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3 folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Victoria3 or Documents Victoria3 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add Victoria3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

THEN Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Test with a new unmodded campaign . NOT any existing one

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.txt

Hi, I've done all the steps, but I can't change the refresh rate in the launcher settings. In the main menu settings, however, I could set a maximum FPS to 60. I hope that works.

Hi! I was unable to change the max refresh rate in the launcher settings, but I WAS able to set refresh rate to 60 in the main menu settings. The game still crashed after less than five minutes, which is not quite a record, but almost. It ran smooth as hell, though. Attached are the requested files, minus "exceptions", which I didn't see. There was also a system1 file, not attached.

This is odd. Could you please post your DxDiag file? (Windows Start Menu -> type "DxDiag" and launch it -> click "Save all information" -> upload the resulting txt file.

IF it fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log

Sure. It ran ok for a little bit yesterday but today it's crashing within five minutes. It also said it had to load in shaders (I think it was) because it was the first time it launched since the newest version, which it clearly wasn't.

Can we get that dxdiag please? IF it fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log

Ok, I renamed it. Hopefully it works. It's started to crash at the same week over and over.

Edit: I can't seem to add the file despite renaming it. I don't know what to do. Is there any other way to submit it?

Try zipping it up then, thanks.

I'm afraid you have a hardware problem:
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 5996MB RAM
At least one of your memory sticks is not working. Try re-plugging them, if that doesn't help you'll probably need to take it to a repair centre.
Sorry for the bad news!

Once that is fixed, you are still on the edge for memory; please expand your Windows paging file maximum size to at least 32gb

AND exit every other app you can before starting the game.

AND your Nvidia driver is from 2023, please update to July 2024

Good luck!

Hi! I'm so happy to report that my game now runs like nobody's business and I feel like a king with my smooth and non-crashing game! Thank you!

You do not in fact have the same problem cause. In future please start your own new thread, thanks.

System Manufacturer: ASUS
System Model: System Product Name
BIOS: 1210 (type: UEFI)
Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700K (24 CPUs), ~3.4GHz

You probably have the CPU/bios hardware issue discussed here:
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ration-intel-processors.1591821/post-29305331

If you haven't updated your bios recently (say, the last month) please check for an updated bios. Then please implement the “Intel Default” option in it, if present.

Good luck!
