I'm running EU2 (German version UBISoft, patch 1.08) on a Pentium IV, 3400 MHz with 512 MB. OS is Windows XP Home Version 5.1.2600 with Direct X 8.1 or higher installed. Videocard is NVIDIA Geforce 6610 XL with 128 MB, Audiocard is C-Media High Definition Audio Device. My HD has 85 GB of free space left after installation of EU2. I'm using an infrared keyboard and a PS/2 mouse.
That's about all that was aked for in the sticky.

At first I could not play the game at all after installation. Then I found some advice in this forum to reduce colour depth, rename the avi folder and stop background activity. Well, now the game is running but keeps CTD any time during the game. There is no pattern or reason obvious to me. Tried different nations already, but to no avail. Sometimes I play for several years, then again only for months. It's rather frustrating, because the game looks soooo good. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you follow the other advice about updating your drivers?

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Thank you for your efforts, Castellon.
Here is the result of the diagnostic:

Okay I notice two major problems.

1) You have bluetooth hooked up, Mircosoft is known to have made it dilerberately hard to work Bluetooth with widows, Since they were trying to introduce simmilar technology. :) -Is there anyway you can completely turn that off when running the game?

2) Your MB uses VIA chip set, sorry but these drivers are known to be buggy, and since you use WInXP you cannot switch to native windows drivers therefore you are stuck with it. Not much really you can do about it except avoid their products next time, and make sure you always have the latest driver. Really I can't beleive they can in good conscience still sell these things.

You may also want to take a look through jpd'd excellent FAQ on crashes in the Victoria Tech support forum. most or all of it applies to EU2 as well.

Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Shouldn't this be 16 bit?

Well he did specifically say he tried it, so I assumed he was switching it back and forth when he played the game.

Thanks for your efforts. I tried several of your recommendations the last few days, but sadly nothing really worked. Though I have the impression it improved a little and the crashes are fewer. Which means I can play maybe five years in a session. The game is great so I am actually thinking about buying an older PC only for gaming. There are some favourite games of mine that do not run under XP or on my specific system, though I do not have any other trouble with it.
Thanks again.

Well you should be able to play releativly bug free with XP, I know I do.

You could also install the latest beta patch and see what that does for you.

Try installing AGCEEP. I was having similar problems, and nothing would work. I installed AGCEEP on top of the patches, and it seemed to clear it up. May be sheer luck, but I have no problems with EU2 now.

Ya you could also try the beta patches.
