The Horse Lords free patch massively screwed up a long time save, so despite it being my gaming season (winter) I have avoided starting a new game so far. Feb 2nd can't come fast enough.

Susan Reynold's Fiefs and Vassals which is the basis for the school of thought that feudalism was not a real thing.

Err... I read that book and that is not what she says. She does not dispute that feudalism existed BUT that it only became a dominant form of property law much later than previously thought and not in all places at the same time.

She also talks about how the term feudalism was not used in that time but really who cares.

Finally she talks a lot about homage and fealty and how it meant different things at different times to different people.

The fact is classic feudalism did exist but only in some places in the late middle ages. Prior to that property law was far more mixed and allodial and ecclesiastical properties types were far more dominant.

Should CK3 maybe be more fluid in this way? Definitely. However this new smug "feudalism doesnt exist" stance is itself a ridiculously simplified argument.

All of this sounds great, now hopefully the AI has been improved so it'll be better at long term management and finally be able to play the game corectly.
With this, we would only like proper dynastic mechanics (cadet branches !!!) and CK2 would finaly be next-to perfect.

You have your associations, other people have their own. At least I didn't immediately associate "Conclave" with the Pope.

I for one think of SoA more as general events and mechanics pack for Abrahamic religions. Sure, the Papal election mechanic was a part of it but so were the Jews and loads of new events. But true enough, since SoA already did the whole Papal conclave thing, why would Paradox make a new DLC about it?

You "at least" hadn't that association because maybe you and me have a different knowledge of history. So calm down, you are not field marshal on the forum because of your degree in history. This is proved by your belief that SoA has done it all with the papacy. Only a person who totally ignores the role of the papacy in the European history and the strict links between temporal and spiritual powers in the Middle Ages can say that with SoA the papacy in CKII is as close as possible to the real one. And trying to make the game more and more similar to the real historic characters and facts is exactly the aim of every dlc in CKII. I really can't understand why every time that someone talks about a dlc to improve the theocracies and make them more realistic and complex, there must be always someone like you, getting angry as if one has asked to include star wars characters in the game.

First, that seems quite promissing. I'm really curious about these new features, specially concerning female characters.

Secondly, I'm practically sure no one is going to agree with me here, but I really hope that, someday, I'll see a DLC allowing me to give a temple holding to a female Christian character so I can recreate one of those (somewhat) powerful abbesses of real life as a female relative in my favorite dynastic game.
Of course, I would also like a beatified or saint trait like in the old days of deus vult (with the adition of martyr, perhaps?), instead of the nick "the saint" received while still breathing, but I digress.
The game currently provides the option of turning not-your-heiress unmarried women into nuns but that really doesn't bring much in terms of prestige or either actually separating the nuns from the rest of the court or giving them status and sway above the average female courtier, as far as I get.

P.s.: Also, maybe the option to "banish to a convent" any unmarried daughter amidst the possible reactions to choose from in "caught in flagrante delicto" events? That would be harsh, but historically acurate, and reduce the spread of love-pox. lol
P.s.2: Still not believing a vassal who impregnates my unmarried daughter is not prison-worthy, but that's another discussion, that will wait for another day.

I don't see why this shouldn't be doable in the game now. They could put it in the patch possibly. You'd just need create a special condition in which a character with the 'nun' trait can receive bishoprics.

I think the only snag they'd hit is awkward interactions with the 'Sons of Abraham' cardinal system. I've seen some funny threads where female Karlings got elected pope.

February 2nd?

Couldn't stick to the early January promise, eh Paradox?

Not complaining, hopefully this means WAY LESS bugs.
When did they promise early January?

I believe this thread, or one of the other official one(cant remember) stated something along the lines of early January release in its title. But its no longer early January tho lol, but like I said no biggie.
They only ever said Early 2016. There was never mention of a release in January.

My bad, they only said early 2016. Sounds like I translated it to late January while some people heard early January...

Also I was answering someone who was asking about the Feb. 2nd. date, so the post above mine was either edited or deleted, and now mine does not make much sense.

I just preordered.

I didn't buy Horse Lords, but I have all the previous expansions. My interest for CK2 was diminishing as I discovered how good EUIV has become, and now I am willing to return to this game thanks to this amazing looking expansion.

Just to say good job to the team. They listened those who wanted more depth (internal mechanics) in the game.

Going to assume you do not use Steam to play Ck2.. I really wish steam would put it up so i could pre order it myself lol
