Since HoI2 has now got its own source code expansion (Arsenal of Democracy) as well as EU2 (For the Glory), let us hope that CK is next. :)

I was thinking, what with the FTG project announced... Perhaps someone (or rather, a team of someones) could similarly update and enhance CK?

I believe some people (Ulmont f.e.) had plans for such a project. But nothing has been heard of that again. This either could be good news (they are working secretely on a 'expansion') or bad news (they were refused).

Up! I'm looking forward to it, although it's highly improbable, judging by the following message on the Pdx Twitter:

Yes, we have another announcement that didn't make it last week.12:56 AM Sep 7th from web

So it seems that "Arsenal of Democracy" was the last title left on the last Paradox announcement frenzy. Bad news for CKers, indeed. :(

I hate twitter  it leaves no more room for wild speculations :) :D

But in the Arsenal of Democracy forum I also read that OHGamer (usually wel informed) has heard that there are people working on a Vicky usermade expansion. So who knows, maybe there is some group working on something for CK.:)

IIRC OHgamer is himself involved in that project. So I'll expect that we'll see a usermade Vicky expansion at some point in the future

Its really a shame that the most entertaining game doesnt get the love from Paradox as the others, looks like every other game is covered, sometimes multiple times, but no hope for CK. Is this because it was originally developed by another company?
Also dont understand why Johan is favouring Vicky so much, a always had the impression, and even thought he said it once, that he has a lot of love for CK.

Just give it time, I'm sure there will be a CK2

I have hope for a new CK title. It is as much a 'cult classic' as they said Victoria was, it also reveloutionized other Paradoix games ('Dynamic' EU3, not to mention Rome).

At the very least, they could just release the source code to everyone some where down the line a la Civilization: Call to Power 2.

CK is far less moddable in the aspects that matter -- the core problems are just unfixable for people who can't recode the game. Still I think we've come quite far in fixing all remaining scenario bugs, event bugs, etc. -- which is about all that CAN be done. No recognition for that? :(

And it's true there is no one big mod, but I think that is mainly because Veld and I are the only active big modders for this game*, and we both began a DV mod around the same time (both shortly after DV's release, both based on an earlier CK mod -- Veld on his own, mine originally on Byakhiam's undervalued work in the IPs and my smaller mods for CK). That means the basic choices -- which are limited as there are only so many culture tags and titles -- were different from the start. Even if we wanted to, we could not possibly now combine TASS and DVIP without throwing away a good deal of work.

As for DVIP, I had tried to get a team effort going in the past, but there just doesn't appear to be enough amino here (nor do I think on retrospect there is much work for it). Fortunately I do have a lot of contributors (thanks guys -- you know who you are).

In way I think it's even better than a huge single CK mod -- this way there's more choice. I play TASS from time to time, and not just to see what I can steal^H^H^H^H^H erm adopt ;)

*Not that I mean the work of others isn't there of course! CK never really died, and people like Styrbiorn, loseth, Maver1ck, Llywelyn, performer, etc. etc. do some excellent stuff here. But asides from TASS and DVIP there is no big mod for Deus Vult.

Yes, CK lacks dedicated modders. But that is also because unlike Vicky where you can create all kinds of historical events to steer the game in a certain, the CK engine doesn't allow that.

I sometimes borrow things from you, but you will get them back I promise ;)

Sorry men, it's not my intention to say that your work is not worthy. Simply that there's no big mod like MM or VIP that attracts hundreds of players and modders alike, and so more attention to the game.

Indeed, not having the possibility of historical events is a major handicap. Would be difficult to implement some "flag" system like in EU3?

Not just difficult -- virtually impossible.
There are two ways you can conceivably set a flag:
1) add a trait to a character
2) add a province improvement

Both of these are very clumsy methods, and there aren't really any free traits and certainly no free province improvements. 1 will only be usable for character events. #2 will only be usable for province events.
Neither kind of event can do anything like an EU3 event can: you can't change titles, add or remove specific claims, etc..

BoPack has some historical events, but they come down to either one-time events, short event chains with a few choices, or events that force you to move your army to a certain province and wait. There's no way to simulate gameplay with events and get historical results: if you want to make the Sultanate of Rum appear after Byzantium has been overrun by the Seljuks, the only way to do so is to let a random Turk spawn with the title in a random province in the area. You cannot make SELJ create the title and give it to an heir, or to change to it.

jordarkelf and Veldmaarschalk may not be High Priests, but it's fair to say they both have Claims to the title/throne of CK :p . Either of their mods is very good and fixes issues with the game. Sure, a lot is limited by the game, since it's hardcoded, and about those things nothing can be done.

Well, it's a safe bet that, seeing as Paradox has exhausted EU, Vicky, and HoI for sequels and expansions, that they will have NO CHOICE but to give us CK2 next
