If there is a CK2 then it will be in 3D.

There really is no point in discussing that matter, Paradox will never be able 'to sell' a 2d game anymore. Individual customers on a forum are not the main 'buyers' for Paradox, PC-game distributors are.

No major distributor will be interested in a 2D strategy/wargame.

But they're interested in 1995-era 3D like EUIII (EU3-D? harhar)?

But then, PC-game distributors wouldn't buy a 3D CK 2 anyways, since Paradox's own CEO has little confidence already in Victoria 2, how much better would CK (an even more niche product) do in the face of that?

CK sold better then Victoria

Don't ask me for links, but Johan posted a list of Paradox games and in that list, CK was above Victoria

I love CK/DV graphics; they are so rustic and suit the era so well. However, I guess that i am one of the few who believe that a 3D CKII could work out well. Sure, it would need a lot of work, but i have an open mind.

The main problem in my eyes is that they shouldnt rush it out after vicky2; i would rather wait an extra year or two for it to be done properly than have a half baked initial release that needed a whole load of patches and addons to reach its full potential (HOI3 anyone?).

+1

my deus vault dosent work right now and i have just played thru one game og CK DV, but what a game! Making Norway a bigger power is qouite fun and if a secuel comes out i will be in the line to buy it regardlessly if it comes with 2d or 3d

Not sure what all the objection is to 3D. I think EU Rome did an excellent job with the map and graphics, particularly the freedom to modify the view to your liking. A similar system would work well in CK2 and appease all players.

I would love to see a CK2, far more so then Vicky.

For some reason I recal reading the CK was one of Johans favorites, though I suppose market trumps personal opinions, still Im going to throw my support for a CK2.

It will be 3D (if it gets made) so no point discussing that, I like EU:Rome's map myself.

CK2 Please! :D

3d or not. I'd love to see a supervamped up CK II with more options and less bugs.

No more saving and reloading when changing titles ;)

How is a medieval game more of a niche market than a 19th century game? A casual look at the strategy market should tell you otherwise.

I believe the decision behind making a Vicky 2 was actually based on a poll here on the forums, or at least thats what I remember from the Vicky 2 forum

Hey all,

I really like that people are excited that Vic2 is in development. This feels like an interesting and exciting project for all of us, however it is no secret I voted for another project from the Paradox dev team.

Johan assured me our fans want this project, and so did you (forum people) in a poll on this forum.

So in brief; I think this project never will see profit (reason is simple Vic1 was a terrible launch). Johan thinks it will. Johan and his team have the responsibility to create a good game and of course we hope that you will buy it since this was the most voted-for title in our poll.

So, what do I bring to the table except for whining? I have promised the dev team (and checked with my family) that I am shaving my head if this project ever sees profit. AND post pictures of it here in the forum.

We will have a budget meeting in the coming two weeks to see how many units we need to sell to reach our break-even; and keep you posted. Progress reports will follow.

And yes, I am serious. :)

Cheers,
Fred

From here.

So it seems that even as dedicated as the fan base is for CK, Vicky had an even more dedicated group! Shame on y'all! :p

And I still can't understand the opposition to 3D. Rome proved it looked good, and its easier for modders to deal with in regards to new maps (or so I have been told).

Both of those are good enough reasons for me.

My biggest gripe about this decision, is that the poll was placed in Off-Topic forum, and as far as I know, there was made NO attempt on PI's part to advertise this poll.

I know that OT is the place for general polls and such, as you can't place it in any of the specific forums. But I never knew that it was there, because my book mark is directly into the Paradox Games forums. So I never see the OT forum (and even if I did I would have no reason to go there).

If they were using the poll in a "Fun Forum" to make a decision on which game to release next, they should have blown it up on all the specific forums, with links, so everyone could be informed. Instead they could have made the poll under their announcements or one of the Paradox restricted forums.

Having a very small percentage of people get to vote on a poll in an obscure forum, and then making a decision (purely) based on that is a bit weird to me.

Not saying that the outcome would have been different, but I thik alot of players didn't get a chance to cast their vote.

If after Vicky2 is released, they make a poll like that again and Vicky3 gets more votes than CK2, should we then just get shafted again, because the Vicky crowd is more vocal than us CK'ers?

It's really odd that nobody from CK forum didn't either knew about the poll, or if knew, didn't link the page here. Next time they should patch the poll.

If I had known the importance of this poll (which was just one of many that had been held the last couple of years) I would of course had advertised it here.

I still doubt though, that the poll was the decisive factor in the decision to make Victoria2 instead of CK2. If that even was the choice.

From a marketing point of view it is of course nice to say that the fans had a say in this. :)

Perhaps! But I think that the map will in 3d. :S Bleah

Here's another supporter of a "Crusader Kings II".

I've got just one definite wish on my mind: Source as much of the gameplay aspects as possible out to text files. Everything that doesn't really need to be hardcoded shouldn't be. ;)

Then again, that's a wish for every new release. :D

Most things that can be improved upon have already been discussed by others; there's just one thing I'd yet like to comment. Earlier in this thread someone complained how the game ends when someone not of your exact dynasty inherits your last ruler, which was countered by a comment saying how the game was about one single dynasty. I agree with the former, however. The scope should be broadened just a wee little bit - from dynasty to family.
If my heir is the son of my ruler's aunt, sister or daughter, then so be it. Let the name change. Can't see what would be so wrong about it regarding the actual game. Make the game not about the names, but the bloodlines.
If CK2 would get an integrated family tree view - and it should - colour code the dynasties inside the family so you can appreciate who contributed what to the grandeur of the family. :D

I cant recal if I voted in that poll or not, if I did it was for CK thats for sure!

However, the Vicky crowd is very vocal, IMO they are obsessed, they probably all registered multiple accounts :p. I dont know, I played Vicky and it never really grabbed my interest like CK or other P'dox games have.

I cant really see the economic logic in having a small minority of people deciding what game gets made. Making people feel good is one thing, but keeping the company in the black is far more important. I dont like this "break even" talk, doesnt look good right off the bat.

I hope its successfull, but only for selfish reasons, if Vicky 2 flops then what are the chances for a CK2?
