Well, like it says in the title, I get a CTD when my king dies. This is specific to my king, (Rupprecht von Habsburg, King of Germany.) in my current 1066 game - it doesn't seem to be a problem for any other ruler. Whenever he dies, either by illness, natural causes, or by using 'die', I get an immediate CTD.

I loaded up as the King of Hungary, in the same game, paused the game, and killed the King of Hungary, using 'die', and there was no problem. Everything worked normally. I then used 'die' on my own king (The King of Germany.), whilst still as Hungary, and he died, but his heir didn't inherit (He was merely shaded out to indicate death.) and his dates appeared as '1067-0.' It was as if the game couldn't assign him a death date for some reason. I unpaused the game, and the game crashed after a few days.

I haven't been able to replicate this again. I tried doing the same thing as the King of France and I got an immediate CTD.

He has a few Kingdom titles, (Germany, Bohemia, Burgundy, Croatia, Lithuania and Italy, iirc.) and quite a lot of claims, and he's rich, but I see no reason why that should be causing it.

I'm using the 17th(?) of March Beta. I'll patch to a more recent version, see what happens, and report back. Any suggestions in the meantime are appreciated.

If you get the same crash under the latest beta then run it again under debug mode and then post the debug log in the sticky thread. That should help us track it down. Oh...and please hang onto that save game for a while in case we need it. Thanks. :)

Since this is most likely bug-related rather than a technical (hardware/installation) issue I'm moving this over to the bug reporting forum.

I appear to have found a semi-solution.

I had a hunch that perhaps the size of my empire was a problem; I gave away Lithuania, and killed my King off using 'die'. Everything worked fine. Succession passed to his son, and he died like he was supposed to.

I don't know if this means that CK doesn't like my system, (It's very low-spec - 800Mhz.) and the size of my empire was causing problems, or it was some weird bug to do with the Kingship of Lithuania specifically. I'll report back.

What inheritance law do you currently have?

Semi-Salic Primogeniture.

If you still have a copy of your original save (uneditted) could you please compress it (rar prefered, although I can open zip, etc.) and e-mail it to me at chris.stone at rogers.com so I can have a look at it.

More developments.

My new King died of an illness, and his son inherited the whole lot without a hitch. (I'd taken back Lithuania in the interim, and I now had an emprie from Flanders to the Urals.)

So it was presumably somethinG wrong with the original King's details which was causing the CTD.

Do you still want the original save? I'm not even sure if I have it still. :(

If you have it, yes. It would be nice to track down the source of the bug and see if we can squish it.

I'm adding this to this thread, because it *could* be related. I just got a crash-to desktop on the day the Pope died when I was Papal controller. I don't know if it's repeatable, because I'm going to have to reload the autosave and it was an eventful year (major war going on). I also captured a province that same day.

I just noticed that there's something screwy about the Crusades in my game. I started another game and I'm up to 1175 with no crusades called. Also, when I hover the cursor over piety to get my monthly change, there's an "unknown string wanted" instead of a notation about crusade obligations. Could this be related to my papal crash?+
