DD- Alpenfestung: Germany's last stand

I guess where the last two proposals are mistaken is the simple fact that Germany allied with the US would be completely unbalanced.
The Russians would be too weak.

Plus, what does that (recreating Germany) have to do with the original idea of the Alpenfestung?
The scenario you two propose is essentially what we already have with DD, only that Germany would control western Germany instead of the Allies.

It would also be similar to Barbarossa, only that Germany now could completely focus on one front and has the most powerful allies possible.

If instead Germany is at war with everyone but well entrenched in the Alps, then you have a completely different DD-scenario with three factions at war with each other.
It might be possible via an event-chain to let Germany join either the Allies or the Comintern (could be related to the progress either side is making in conquering the Alpenfestung).
Other possibility would be to conquer it and then puppet Germany.

I'm not saying that my idea is necessarily better than yours, it is just a much bigger change to the original DD-setting, thus a better reason to play it.
After all, the infamous alpine fortress has always been popular in alternate history, thus indicating a huge interest in that theme.

I guess I was trying to justify why the Allies and the Soviets would square off before Germany was crushed. The only plausible reason would be that the Allies went with a "Patton Plan" of continuing the Fight Eastward with the German Army. I pictured a German "fortress Austria" surrounded by the Soviets who had pushed to the Rhine. The Allies realize that all of Europe is now threatened by Soviet Occupation thus are willing to bargin with the Germans. Of course the German player can refuse and sit in the Mountians waiting for a moment that may or may not come. I would not put Germany into an alliance with the Allies if they choose to accept their aid, but rather set them at a shaky peace at war with a new common enemy. This would leave open a back stab by either side.

That sounds very interesting and guarantees a high replay value, as the outcome would/should be different each time. Once Germany sides with the Allies, once with the Sovs, once it fights against all.

Himmler however was head of the SS and couldn't care less.
The planned Alpenfestung was pretty much an SS-enterprise (hmm, that sounds like USS-Enterprise).
It's only consequent to put Himmler in power as he wouldn't have it any other way.
Dönitz can also not be Hitler's successor. It would be kind of funny to have the Chief of Navy rule a nation with no access to any sea.

Okay, I know it sucks to revamp ancient threads like this one, but... I'm gonna bump this. Somebody needs to try and make a scenario like this, tried myself, but the DD editor is useless... or I'm crap at modding. Maybe both.
