A.D. 1066
"Ti's not the biggest kingdom at a moment that is successful, it is the most sta
ble kingdom that is successful. Look upon the the Roman Empire. It is the legion
s that created the empire but it was the roads that held it together. "
Rule Nr.1:
What good is it having a large kingdom an then losing it in a bad boy or success
ors war.
In the long run what counts is having a stable kingdom long enough for different
cultures to start merging and generating stability.
The factors of stability are number of king's counties, king's reputation, prestig
e and piety.
In an event of civil war having control of most duchy titles is the most importa
nt. Non direct successor sons could be given one whole duchy with counties only
if the king (his successor) has the same number of counties/duchies as other duk
es combined. A good rule is to never create a duke of more than one duchy.
If a duke somehow get more than one duchy, first try to marry someone to his suc
cessor. If that doesn't work wait for an opportunity to strike him down.
Stability is everything. Create absolutism by having absolute power of duchy tit
les.
Rule Nr.2:
Give titles to sons only when you have married them or else they will want more
and more and rebel in the end. It is wicked that they are disobedient but there
is no profit in striking down you own dynasty. Give them titles slowly, so they
wouldn't rebel once they have it all. Give them more titles if they have more so
ns. Never give other sons more than the successor son.
Various Rules:
Powerful duchies are good only if you can control them.
Expand family influence by striking down disloyal dukes. Avoid striking down fam
ily - better bribe them.
Try to achieve a balance of power inside the kingdom.
Invest in +1 gold improvements first and later in +5% improvement.
Avoid bad boy and low reputation by only attacking foreign kings. Spread family
influence by striking down disloyal vassals and not by attacking foreign vassals
piecemeal. Taking on the kingdom of Hungary takes too long by going for each va
ssal piece meal.
Create powerful dukes that are loyal.
Invest in your capital buildings that are good for education.
If dukes start wars support them and then later take their provinces if they bec
ome disobedient.
If you are strong ti's better to have compact duchies and one duke with all coun
ties in a duchy. He can support a bigger army than one count. But be careful les
t the duke becomes too powerful.
