Firstly just thought I'd let people know that an update will be coming soon, probably in the next few days. It will address some issues, particularly with CTDs, and add some bits and pieces.

Dragons are the main reason for this post though :) The new Dance of the Dragons story has given us quite a few details on how dragons worked when the targaryens had them, including much detail on how they fought. So what we intend to do is make them actual characters rather than traits.

The general idea is to have them linked to their rider using a parent-child relationship, and use their martial score as an indicator of their strength. So a newborn will have zero and a fully grown Balerion like dragon can have upwards of 100:

The dragon trait would make them immortal(so we can kill them via event), infertile, unmarriable etc. And would also be used to prevent them from using any other events/mechanics.

This way the dragons will not all have the same capabilities, with only dragons like Balerion with a high martial having the current nuke like abilities they have in the mod. This would also be undoubtedly much more flavoursome :) This wont be ready for the next release unfortunately, but hopefully for the one after that.

In the meantime what we do need is dragon name suggestions to go with the known canon dragons for the dragon culture, so new dragons can have new cool names. So feel free to throw names at us and we'll add pretty much any of them in within reason.

What happens when the owner - "parent" dies? Historically whenever an owner died the dragon was inherited by the successor.

I was thinking one of two things could happen, the successor could become the dragon's new 'parent' but they will not have the dragon rider trait. They could only gain the trait and be able to use the dragon when they to tame it. If they fail to tame the dragon they may lose the parent-child connection and the dragon in effect becomes wild.

Or the dragon could become wild straight away, and any successor/family member could then proceed to try and tame it, which I personally think would be closer to what was depicted in the Princess and the Queen.

Speaking of names, would it be possible to have two cultures for two sets of different names?

So Targaryen dragons would get valyrian names, while dragons born wild would get names by the paesants and commonfolk (like Sheepstealer, Grey Ghost or the Cannibal).

Why not do something like this, where dragons get their own separate tab alongside children rather than parent-child relationship because what will happen when you do the dance of the dragons scenario since Aemond One-Eye has Vhagar, Visenya Targaryen's she-dragon. and I mean something like this:

Names suggestions? I'll have a go...
Firkragg Thaxilix Gorthalon Bjornrick Iovoreth Jiedrien Mephistophicies Anaxaligonophesus....
That's my creativity expunged :p

I have afew suggestions: Bucephalus, Barthandelus, Invictus, but I think it would be a good idea to get afew by expanding on the -fyre motif Martin uses with Dreamfyre and Sunfyre.

Nightfyre, Starfyre, Blackfyre, Goldfyre, Lifefyre, Telfyre, Tallfyre and of course Helfyre.

Sigh, didnt i suggested this somewere along the main thread ?

That might be hardcoded

Aegax, Rhaenion, Visenion, Maegal, Aenion, Jaeherion, Orion, Baelax, Rhaenyral, Daerax, Baelal, Rhaenal, Elaenal, Daenal, Naerion, Aemax, Daemax, Aegal, Shieral, Daenerion, Aerion, Valal, Matarion, Rhaegax, Maekal, Aeriax, Rhaeal, Daellal, Rhaellal, Rhaellax, Rhaenion, Keith

It is an excellent idea.

Perhaps it should be renamed "companions" or something like that and all animal companions (dragons, dire wolves, bears, even whales) and maybe even other things could eventually be included as characters there.

Grey Wind, Shaggydog, and the skinchanger's shadowcat should be more than just traits. They should be characters to, with personalities, histories, and the ability to breed and be passed down the generation. It would be an extremely enjoyable side game.

I'm so going to name my first dragon Neltharion.
