I think people are naming dragons from other fantasy legendariums simply as a joke (my mention of Smaug and Alduin certainly was a joke). I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting those names be used. I think we could all agree that it would be immersion-breaking to see dragons from other fantasy worlds in Westeros and Essos. I think as a general rule, for serious suggestions, leave Tolkien, Skyrim, Pokemon, real-world mythology, etc out of it except for the purpose of inspiring new, original names.

It is an excellent idea.

Perhaps it should be renamed "companions" or something like that and all animal companions (dragons, dire wolves, bears, even whales) and maybe even other things could eventually be included as characters there.

Grey Wind, Shaggydog, and the skinchanger's shadowcat should be more than just traits. They should be characters to, with personalities, histories, and the ability to breed and be passed down the generation. It would be an extremely enjoyable side game.
+1

So, looking at the list of known dragon names on the wiki, there seem to be a couple patterns (which presumably represent Valyrianisms)

-names with a common word ending in "-fyre" (e.g Sunfyre and Dreamfyre)
-names ending in "-ax" or "-axes" (e.g. Syrax or Caraxes)

You also have descriptive/poetic names (e.g. Silverwing or Moondancer) and ones given by peasants (e.g. Sheepstealer)

So possible examples:

Heartfyre, Hearthfyre, Bloodfyre, Darkfyre, Grayfyre, Fornaxes, Skysailor, Starwing, Firecatcher, Wolfbane

Edit: I should note that several of these are terrible, but are meant more as examples to guide people away from "generic fantasy name set"

I'm ok with not using other fantasy dragons (even Tolkien, there is a middle earth mod now) but I think real life ones should be added, other-wise how would the writers of such novels get their ideas. I have some Ddraig Goch, Lindworm and smok, these are all "real" dragons and with some manipulation could be in the mod.

Great idea! I can't wait for companion dragons (as opposed to nukes in your pocket). Love the idea about the wolves and shadowcats too! Maybe as a random event your character can get one of the animal companions? Something like "you take your horse for a morning ride, and find a huge-ass wolf staring at you. It follows but does not give chase. You feel either cray-cray or in strange understanding of this wee beastie." Options would include bonding with it, trying to kill it, or trying to shoo it away. Maybe your kids can have an event, "you find young Ashara in the garden, talking with someone. Expecting to bust the stable boy, you are surprised to see her chatting with a hawk. 'Ashara, wtf?' She looks to you, smiling. 'Father, may I keep it?'" Responses include letting her keep it, killing it (earn mucho disapproval from all your children), and dragging her to the sept/seahall/temple. This event triggers almost always for skinchangers (not sure, are characters born with that trait?), very often for greenseers, somewhat often for Northerners and Wildlings, and occasionally everyone else.

As for the dragons...

Targish names: Grymoire, Maelstral, Luciferon, Verathion, Lorcan, Seawing, Shraynor, Viserax, Ragnaras, Fenrion, Skysong, Zephyrion, Wraithwing, Rafael, Raselion, Feynrael, Duskfyre
"Peasant" names: Fellfang, The Shrieker, The Huntress, Bullbreaker, Lady Lark (a friendlyish, somewhat playful dragon who the villagers fed since it was young)

I wish we could name them via event. I'll name my dragon "Max Destruction" and burn all who opposes us. Or something from another game or book like "Gaping Dragon" or something as cheesy as my first choice like "Skyburner" or "Stonemelter"

That was actually kind of my point. Don't post dragon names from other fantasy worlds or real-world mythology verbatim, but I think letting them inspire new names, or altering them slightly to make them unique is just fine.

Courtesy of a...dragon name generation site, although I can't link it here because IDK if its allowed, And I don't know if you can use these considering I didnt brainstorm them and got them from a site, you could make a event fire when you hatch a dragon that allows you to name them like children too, IDK if that's possible but it would be great.

Personally, if you use any of these they should be placeholders, because they aren't good at all LOL.

So will the dragons that escape and make lairs now end up with the province (or at least barony) in their own right? It'd be pretty cool to have a CB of 'Dragon Hunt' or similar to go after the dragon to reclaim the territory - maybe with some kind of event chain for trying to capture or kill it.

Of course you'd have to avoid the situation coming up where Drogon becomes the King on the Iron Throne and marries Margaery (I wouldn't be surprised, she'll marry anyone!) though that would be pretty amazing in its own way..
