Given that Baratheon blood works...

Baratheon is a branch from the Targaryens, with a refill only two generations removed from Robert, Stannis and Renly, so it might be that. And as TMSaxon said Melisandre has never really done anything with king's blood.

Also, though it can't be proven definitely yet, I generally get the feeling that Melisandre is consistently misinterpreting... Well, everything, so the odds of her actually getting something right seems low. Her character basically exists to do everything wrong so we can sit and scream at her and point to Daenerys (bloody stone dragons, right...)
and Jon
. There is obviously some kind of misunderstanding going on regarding the two sets of prophecies on the coming War for the Dawn and I'm betting on the Prince that was Promised rather than Azor Ahai.

No direct evidence of that - the implication so far is that Melisandre saw in her visions that Robb, Balon, and Joffrey were going to die. And I am not even going to mention that disappointing excrement that the show has become.

No direct evidence that it DOESN'T work... Or do you question the Lord of Light? You f*cking heathen...

To quote the ever quotable Big Bucket Wull "Rooloo? Red Rooloo means nothing here. We follow the Old Gods, the true gods."
The Old Gods for the win. Especially

To be fair, every single great house has king's blood. The black of hair and blue of eyes stuff comes from Argella who was the daughter of the Storm King. The Lannisters were kings of the Rock, Starks the kings of Winter, the Martells were Princes of Dorne and the most of the houses of the Reach were descendants of Garth Greenhand. Kingsblood could be rather loosely interpreted...

Not to mention the many many -many- kings that existed before the realms were consolidated into the big ones we know 'n love right before Aegon said hi. If anything chances are everyone would be able to trace their descent back to a king if you went far enough back. :p

Of course we can assume that a blood mage like Melisandre has extensive and complicated graphs and stuff for calculating what exactly counts as kings blood and how powerful it is in different people.
