The heir looks like a mini-him. It looks like an old, mean drunk in a small body about to throw a tantrum. What is the unusual look for Kansas and Indiana and is Tennessee independent or rebel? When I was young, I thought that the problem with moonshine was that it was tainted and would make the drinker sick; then I learned that the problem was that the maker committed far worse sin . . . not paying the government their unholy share. Thanks for updating.
The two areas covered in colors are occupied by me, rebels. The one in green is also rebels, but not occupied yet.
What's the name of the old lush's heir?
Georgios! :)

Georgios! :)

Do I dare to make a prognostication?

Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry,
When the boys came out to play,
Georgie Porgie ran away.

Georgios will see more trouble than his father. :p That I can assure you.

Man, that's one ugly heir. Looks like Benjamin Button, and not the Brad Pitt version.

Has Vinland expanded at all, or are they just treading water? Elysium is like Pacman the way it's gobbling up the land.

Those whispers prove his paranoia... but are they also indicative of his sanity? How much would it take for these fictitious whispers to address him directly and give him instructions? Perhaps as deities?

Let's hope that he doesn't reign that long and that Georgios will be a better ruler... what is Georgios like, by the way?

Unfortunately, a bug with my install has made all American countries NOT colonizing. So it is only me. Colonization happens elsewhere, though.

My money is on his sanity. :D He'll only get worse. As for Georgios, he's a child with no defining traits as of now.

I'm enjoying your AARs @Nikolai, but sadly every time I read a V3 AAR I am reminded of all the reasons why I won't play it, rather than of reasons why I should, such as it was with V1 and V2 AARs.

I hope Paradox takes the lessons from V3 as a motivation and guide on how to build V4 better, rather than as a reason never to produce V4 in the first place.

This is not Victoria3's fault entirely! But it is a Paradox issue. I am using a mod, and it removed a sub mod recently. Steam mods removed all files, but I was using the Paradox mods page and it turns out there is an issue with their solution (according to the mod creator) where new versions of mods get downloaded over the old one without cleaning up the mod files. So this means my version of the mod contained parts of the sub mod. Parts. Not the 2hole mod. And it made several countries, like Elysium, Vinland etc have wrong laws, laws they had in an old edition before they were more developed. So we were all supposed to have frontier colonization. All have no colonization. And the AI has not changed their laws like I have...

A very interesting world and nice short chapters so it was easy to catch up.

It's not looking great for Pavlos, but he remains brave, intelligent and a cunning political operator (according to the soothsayer/portrait traits). If he remembers those abilities they can more than compensate for liking the odd drink. As for the cruelty, well I doubt Elysium's push westwards is being carried out with kind words and gentle requests.

I have been silently reading @Nikolai and have now fully caught up. Very interesting so far! It's a shame the other AIs won't be providing much competition to you colonially. But it seems like your own internal issues are on the horizon.

What does Pavlos' popularity (-35 in the last chapter) mean in-game? Can he be overthrown?

Yes, it is a sad fact! I played a little ERE in the newest, working version today and all countries there are expanding. Wish I had that here.

Pavlos is a ruler, and as such his bad popularity gives him a malus to authority generation. Depending on type of character, poularity gives different results: https://vic3.paradoxwikis.com/Character

How can you ever think cruelty was part of the push west! Glad to have you caught up! A new chapter will hopefully come during Easter some time. :)

Chapter XII
Pronoia, Elysium

March 6th, 1800

“Sire, urgent news from the front!”

The servant stood in front of Pavlos, awaiting orders.

Pavlos put down the cup of wine, sighed and waved towards the table in front of him.

“Put the papers there, I will read it in a minute…..SILENCE!”

The servant almost jumped.

“Sire? I said nothing…”

Pavlos grumbled.

“Not you…”

He snorted.

“Not you. I want to be left alone now.”

The servant backed out, cautiously. There had been no one else in there, no sound.

As he left, Pavlos smirked – then laughed.

“Good one, Dionysus. I am glad it is you who visits today, not Hades. Tell Father I miss him.”

He closed his eyes. He could hardly believe that the gods spoke to him.

He opened the letter on the table. The Dakotans were rising up. Just as Hades had told him. The old rascal probably had a finger in the game. No matter, the Cheyenne was almost defeated. And he had just signed a big enlargement of the army when the wars were finished. Twentyfive infantry units, seven artillery units, five lancer units. Thirty-seven new units, adding to the twenty-three standing units of now. Surely, that would quell the resistance from those darn Indians…

He looked for his cup. Empty. He needed more. Much more. The headaches were coming again.

Oh dear. Is he hallucinating due to his addiction? Whatever that "strange taste" in the wine is? Or is he merely going dangerously mad? This does not bode well for Elysium.

But if he finds himself alone, riding in green fields with the sun on his face, he should not be troubled...

Hearing the voices of the gods is not a good sign for Pavlos' health. Although...how atheistic would the Elysians be in this time period? Surely most people still believe in the gods existing, and even interacting with the mortal world?

He is totally bonkers, and getting worse! :D meanwhile rebellions are popping up everywhere...

Good point, although this is beyond normal interacting I think. :p

So, while I am writing, I also play games, and today and yesterday I've been playing a campaign in the same mod that my Elysium AAR is in, only this time the mod WORKS PROPERLY. Since yesterday I have played about 60 years and made the ERE, in a similar position of decay as IRL Ottomans, albeit a little better off, to the prime power of the world. All of the Middle East to Baghdad under my control, Hungary, Poland-Lithuania, half of Germany, some of Australia, Africa, South America, and now also a good chunk of North America. It begs to be told. But I have enough as it is with this AAR and the German one. :)

So just to let you see an alternative world, close to the point we are in this story (1800 vs new game's 1797), here is the world map:

Been pretty aggressive here. While in the AAR here I have kept out of war so far, in this game I am at 900 (!) infamy and just keep going up. I get declared on for being a Bad Boy, but I just fight them to a stand still, or sometimes even win a lot of land and/or vassals. Mod creator @Drogan has challenged me to get to 1k infamy, and I am there soon! :D

So the gods are speaking to Pavlos... or at least he thinks they are.

Hopefully the tactics he uses to crush the Dakota don't inspire more Native revolts...

Thank you for the update on the Eastern Roman Empire's western colony. (At least that is what the Basileus is calling it.) I see that @Macavity116 has been rabble-rousing and you have properly restrained him (Michigan). If my home (Virginia) revolts, you have major problems. I would wish for the king to be replaced but I fear that the heir may be worse.

You can't restrain the Wolverines that easily! :D

At 1000 Infamy they should give you a free World War. Having a reputation like that needs to produce noteworthy results.
