No Martians. :D But things will....happen. Things that change the course of history.
I wouldn't be surprised though if the "Martians" turn out to be a cult of revolutionary Ares-worshippers called the Arēḯphiloi.

Georgios looks to be a good ruler.

Will he be forced into a war? That "he will never wage war" line seems... hard to enforce. Also, how is defining war? Do rebellions count? ;)

Haha I like it. :D

Tribal rebellions are hardly war, merely policing, right? ;)
Will Georgios be able to maintain his goals and intentions? Thanks
We'll have to see, but those are lofty goals he has.

All seems to be going well for the king. Though I do hope he gets his shoulder problem looked at :D!

Boring King Georgios continues to be quite dull, if he wasn't smug he'd have no personality at all. Though to be fair this line does explain a great deal;
He abstained and felt better for it.
I look forward to nothing much happening while our author continues to promise something happening later. ;)

Chapter XIX
Pronoia, Elysium

April 29th, 1829

King Georgios Galantinos cursed under his breath, condemning a select few to Hades and worse.

It had gone so well, for so long. Poor laws got in without a hitch. Laissez-Faire too. Then, the voices advocating less immigration, grew. No longer they demanded controls on the borders. No, now they demanded closed borders.

He cursed again. Immigration was the foundation of Elysium’s growth and greatness. This could not do.

He suspected the huge volcanic eruption on Krakatoa two years ago affected it. It had changed the mood, somehow. Like him ordering government founds to help people was wrong, just because they were far away? Or that it somehow made the immigrants worse people? These immigrants were building the future of Elysium!

He sighed.

It certainly didn’t help when crops began failing all over the country. Colder weather, less food. It was a nightmare.

A nightmare he had alleviated by ordering government founds to buy food for the starving. But still. Still these..people had begun working for a revolution. His spies told him they were preaching Communist revolution. A pretty new train of thought, and a repulsive one at that.

He cursed again.

Anthimos Vlachos. The ring leader for these people. He knew he had to exile him, fast. Perhaps the loss of their leader would stop the budding rebels dead in their tracks.

Wow, that’s quite early for communists. Unless Marx got his hands on a time machine and decided to Red Alert the past…

Industrialization in this mod starts already around 1700.

Immigration is tolerated by the working class so long as the jobs and wages are expanding. Without the job/wage expansion, the working class see the immigrants as competition. Elysium is running out of room to expand without a war and the crop failures are not helping. Thanks

Far from it, there's almost unlimited growth going on.

This curse probably has a special meaning for the king, given his father's relationship with that god.

Is the eruption a sign from angry Olympus? It certainly doesn't help. But at least someone might write a good ghost story because of it :D!

It worked so well for the Germans in WW1 right :p?

Georgios problem seems to be he doesn't actually like his own people and has absolutely no interest in (or perhaps ability to) understand opposing view points. It should be pretty obvious why people who are starving at home might object to the government spending vast sums helping distant strangers, yet he is incapable of that.

Still at least there is a promise of something actually happening. Obviously it hasn't yet but maybe, perhaps, in a few updates time, something might occur. Possibly. ;)

Perhaps there is an intentional subtext of bringing in the global debate over immigration into this chapter?

Yes, this line made me think of Lenin too.

The mod has obviously supercharged the economy and events are sparking at least 50 years too early when compared to the original timeline. Georgios better do something or he will end up being a Romanov in North America.
