11yo with only neutral popularity says much about popularity of the father. Why should a child of eleven not be vengeful when he sees his father be reduced to a million pieces? Woe to any man whose neighbor informs the government that he is a communist. Thank you for the update.

Hopefully the man in charge of children's portraits can get a job at a family entertainment park painting pictures.

That's not good. I feel like the revolutionaries will regret this. How far will the new king's vengeance go? Does he limit the blame to those directly responsible for the assassination?

He swore vengeance on the world. That's a broad category that leaves him open to attack many people...

I don't think there is a modifier for parents in popularity. But yeah, why indeed! The man in charge of portraits is reportedly in Hades.

One thing is for sure, the future of the kingdom - and the world? - has changed forever.

Chapter XXIII
Pronoia, Elysium

September 28th, 1832

The young king sat in silence, as the memorial service for his dear departed father progressed. King Georgios Galantinos, first of his name, had been buried a few weeks ago, but now was the time for a final goodbye, as well as the imminent coronation of eleven-year-old king Georgios Galantinos, second of his name.

An hour, tops, and the priests of the Order of Olympos would anoint him. Georgios could hardly wait. Not on the coronation, but on the day he would rule in his own right. Oh, he would make sure to make a mark.

The priest talked and talked. About Hades, Olympos, gods and dedication. His father’s dedication. His line’s. Of the future of Elysium, oh so bright now that Georgios was about to get anointed.

He barely registered, deep in thought.

Then, a commotion.

A man, running towards him. Throwing something.

His regent, throwing himself upon Georgios.

A big bang.

A deep and sharp pain.

Silence.

He lived.

Another reason to make vengeance on the world.

Well, if Georgios II weren't already a reactionary, I think this sealed the deal.

Still quite incredible that this is all because the Georgios family are too stubborn to make any compromise on their policy of unrestricted immigration. Then again it might just be a complete irrational hatred of democracy - the plebs and those dirty business types want this thing so I will oppose it out of spite.

When it rains it pours. I don't have V3, so does the Trait: Scarred mean scarred for life, as in emotional or mental issues, or physical scarring?

Well, this was unexpected given the violence of the previous chapter. The Georgios Revenge Tour will no doubt be a bloody affair.

The call for "retribution" almost has the ring of current politics. The immigration issue certainly rings true of our own times.

Welp, the new king is going to be hard and fast with his revenge. He'll probably even see threats where there are none, much like his predecessor Pavlos.

Yeah, what is left to see is how he will CHANNEL that rage.
Jeez, this kid is going to come absolutely unglued.
Scarred for life, in more than one way...

Hey, it's for the best of their personal domain the country!

The latter, although I think the former is also going to apply in short order here too…
What Historywhiz says. :)

I might be colored by my own time, but it's not conscious really. :)
The Elysian secret police are going to be busy beavers. Spying on and informing on neighbors is going to be a major Elysian industry. Thank you for updating.
That it will be! Thanks for reading. :)

He's still not possessed yet, though! :D

That scheme radicalized the new king even more.

I'm kind of curious as to what the plan was, though - who is Georgios's heir at the moment?

I am not sure what the plan was, but I don't think he had an heir at the time, so what would have happened had he died? I do not know. :) The rebels are Commies though, so a republic led by them is sure to have been part of the plans!

Chapter XXIV
Pronoia, Elysium

January 1st, 1833

Regent Marcian Doukas looked at the reports in front of him and scratched his chin. There were much to consider. The civil war was now inevitable. Elysian control over a majority of the country, the industry and population was lost. Parts of New Greece, the capital and the West was all that was left.

1717913651263.png

His grace’s government had control over a plurality of the armed forces, barely, though. And the HRE, their colony Louisiana and the Japanese colony in Alaska had been convinced to join their side.

1717913680722.png

Not surprising, seeing as the rebels were filthy Communists, a bane and threat to all things royal and traditional. The Red Scare was real. The stories about the excesses of the Communists were widespread, and some might even be true.

Doukas had made sure to spread the stories, they made good propaganda. The remaining Communists were on the backfoot and the support for the needed warfare was increasing.

1717913659555.png

The stories about planned strikes and terrorism was true, though. The secret police had uncovered several plots – both against the young king and other notables.

Doukas scratched his chin again.

The nationalization of women stories were too wild to be true though. He refused to believe them. Still, they made good propaganda. He made a note of making sure the loyalist news papers spread the stories.

He sighed.

Even though the king was committed to revenge, he hoped he could convince the young man to let his feelings be tempered by practicality. The king was not in charge, not yet, but it would be prudent for Doukas’ future standing in court if he didn’t make an enemy of him. Doukas was sure that if the Elysian kingdom were to survive, certain reforms were needed.

But how to convince a grieving twelve-year-old?

This entire communist revolution and civil war is because the Georgios dynasty refused to even consider the possibility of compromise on open door immigration policy of all things. Expecting him to have a single practical bone in his body seems a bit ridiculous, if his family had such a thing they wouldn't be in this mess.

I must also say that Cybernetic Communists do sound significantly worse than the standard ones, one dreads to thing what they will do once in power but it sounds messy even by Communist standards.
