Sorry for the dumb question.

I recently bought a new laptoop. The game runs fine, except that I don't know how to speed up and slow down the game with the keyboard. I don't have the right hand numberpad with the + and - signs. I found that the insert key slows the speed. But I can't figure out how to speed it up.

From 2Coats wonderful "Interface FAQ"

While in-game, the game speed setting can be toggled by using the CTRL key and pressing the ‘minus’ key to slow down or the ‘addition’ key to speed up.

There you go chap. :)

I understand that. My problem is that I used to use the number pad for it. My laptop doesn't have that, and the + and - signs on the number row don't seem to function the same way.

If you are going to try and help in this forum please read the problems very carefully.

No, Those keys do not work.

On laptops there is usually a function key that activates a number pad out of regular keys. Consult the laptop manual for details on how to access that for your particular model.
