I would not compare to Pirates of the Caribbean. That game was originally going to be Sea Dogs2 before Disney got a hold of it. Also POTC came out what 5 or 6 years ago. Compared to today it looks a bit dated but in its day it was pretty cutting edge graphics.

POTC is also an RPG game whose main focus was walking about solving quests. Sailing was not the primary focus. Although the sailing part is what I liked best.
I believe in EIC the only first person activity is Sailing. The original concept for the game had the RPG portion but I believe it was removed. I am guessing that the first person walking about will become their next game "Cutthroats" which appears to build on EIC.

Greg.

POTC i say is not the one from the film. i meant port royale2. my mistake as it was released in spain as pirates of the caribbean

I could be wrong, but I though it was more Total War style, where there is a main campaign map and when encounters occur between opposing size, the map zooms to the battle.

I think very similar to TW, but without land battles and not so wannabe arcadish.

Battles will definitely be in 3D:

I really hope the gameplay for the Direct-Commands on individual ships in EIC aren't like the ones in privateer's bounty and ETW, where it's point to point instead of actually taking control with directional keys and be closer to the action, like the ones in POTC and POTBS. By the way is there gonna be a "heavy" ship of the line in EIC? They seemed to have stopped at light ship of the line, which is roughly a third rate, but are they gonna put first rates in?

They will probably show a 1st rate SOL in the next update.

I would however prefer a 44 gun frigate.

And I do however not agree with you, I liked the control in Age of Sail very much and I detest Akella games for their arcadishness.

So I cast my vote for a more strategic control.

Age of sail2 was soooo great. pity that it was so buggy and the fleet controls were useless. and no battle editor. still i install it from now and then.
a good battle editor in EIC would be a great addition, btw.

I guess the postponed release is because Paradox is able to push in more money into it then the old publisher was willing to do and therefore the devs decided to do some more work on it.

I really hope that this is a case and it's not released as bad condition as LE:I (now it's OK after bman (?) good work) was when released.

I'm waiting this one, I have liked most of Paradox games.

Was the game actually "postponed" since it never had a clear release date in the first place (vague notions of "Q1/2 2009")?

I'm going to guess that Paradox wants to take time to personalize the release, and any extra time will probably go toward the getting the legalities and distribution deals all set up. The ink has barely dried on this, and there is a lot to do to get people up to speed under new management. I do think we will see it sooner than we think we will, though, and I anticipate before Christmas (although next month would be better).

A lightbulb just wen't off in my head. This is the Lighthouse which published Darkness Within isn't it. Now it seems the Dark Lineage might never get published. :(

In an interview with PiratesAhoy Kim Soares said that the grand campaign will span the 200 years from 1600 to 1800.
